Re: Does medication really work for cat agression?

Thanks Ruth and Booktigger, yeah even the vet behaviourist agrees that if a cat doesn't want to cohabit, we must rehome them. It'll be tough all the same, my 7yo will be heartbroken. Uuurgh. Really hoping this works. Yeah, he might want to go out even in the bad weather, we'll see. He's a very high ...

Re: Does medication really work for cat agression?

Hi Ruth and Booktigger, thanks for input, I really appreciate it. What you say about Saturn resounds very much with us. He does sound like a similar character. Also, Ruth what you say about feeling guilty about failing him really hits home, as that's exactly what I feel. I desperately don't want to ...

Does medication really work for cat agression?

Hi all, I'm back after a wee break. We adpoted Rory 7 weeks ago, and already have an old cat Louis of 14 years. Long story short, Rory has become more and more aggressive towards Louis just to the point that we can no longer continue. We have tried every we can think of, including making sure there ...

Re: FLUTD commercial cat food advice please

HIya,
I love that site :-D

I use the french and swiss one all the time. They have the best options by far, but still not much in the urinary wet food range that's not high carb (eg royal canin and hills).

Might have to go further afield. Doesn't help that he's a fuss pot  ;)

Re: FLUTD commercial cat food advice please

Hi Antonio, No I don't know of those, hadn't heard of them, what do they do? I guess I'll have to keep searching online to see if there are any specific formulations I can have delivered. Since my last cat had diabetes, I'm strict in making sure there is a high quality animal protein percentage, goo...

FLUTD commercial cat food advice please

HI all, my old boy of 14yo, called >Louis, had suffered with FLUTD all his life, and we've always had him on vet prescription Royal canin SD wet food and biscuits. His sister developed diabetes and loads of complicated infections which took her in the end. Since he's genetically prone to diabetes I'...

Re: AGGRESSION WITH NEIGHBOURS CAT

This is interesting, if you scroll down to 2/3's of the way down there is a Q&A on cat aggression (first link). It says that she can take out a council order to get your cat to be restrained, ie kept in. Another way of dealing with this would be to install a cat enclosure in your garden so that ...

Re: Toileting problem, advice please :-)

Oh what sad cases! You must have the patience of a saint...I don't know many that could put up with that. We had toileting problems with an old cat of ours and I must admit I despaired at times and thought of getting rid of her (God forgive me!), but I didn't in the end, we found a solution, and had...

Re: AGGRESSION WITH NEIGHBOURS CAT

HI, I'm really sorry to hear this is happening and that it's come to such an ugly head. I think your neighbour isn't being very reasonable, simply because of the urine comment! Where does her cat pee then? How can her cat never have any nasties in it's urine but yours does!? Grrrr, sorry, this makes...

Yep sadly, I think that's the major reason a lot of cats end up in the rescue centers, people can't find a solution and give up.

Re: Toileting problem, advice please :-)

SUCCESS!!!!   The new box has been used three or four times now, all w/o problems, and no puddles outside the box. Phew, what a relief! I wonder if the reason that he's lost his tail and then had toileting problems is why his previous owners dumped him on the streets!? What a horrib...

Re: Toileting problem, advice please :-)

Well I bought a large open high sided storage box this morning and put a kiddie step stool next to it so that he can get in and out easily. This will either be the cure we need or a huge disaster! I'll post back once he's been :-o . We stopped using the flap on our enclosed box because our old cat T...

Re: Toileting problem, advice please :-)

oh Booktigger, I feel your pain. Could she use an enclosed box to prevent her spraying, or would that be too difficult for her to get into? I went to the downstairs loo this morning to find massive puddles of wee everywhere. Needless to say I'm not in the best of moods now! :( :( :( So I'm going out...

Re: Toileting problem, advice please :-)

Aah, the penny dropped, J cloths, thanks Kay. He does mammoth pees outside  so they need to be very absorbant  I've been looking at this as an option - a DIY high sided litter tray that he has to pop into from the top, that way he won't have an option to keep his back end out  But, n...

Re: Toileting problem, advice please :-)

Thanks Kay, I hadn't thought of puppy pads, so will look into those, good idea. I'm not quite sure what you mean by the blue pads of a roll, is it something similar to the puppy pads....just an absorbent pad? Yeah, think I'll have to re-think the litter box shape...either fully enclosed or very high...

Toileting problem, advice please :-)

Hi All, my relatively new rescue cat Rory has developed bad toilet habits in the last week. He's been toileting fine up to recently (eg always in the box), but now seems rather slap dash, sometimes good, sometimes a complete miss. When he goes well, he seems to want to pee on the front edge of the t...

I can see the cattitude in her, a little madam :D Uncle Finn looks like a sweet old man. The avatar is Rory, missing half his fur. Re: Recent diagnosis of diabetes

Hiya, I wanted to give you my experience on this. My old cat Tiss was diagnosed with fulminant diabetes at age 14 a couple of months ago, she went into a crisis, got hospitalised, nearly died and then pulled back from the brink. All withing 14h of being a bit unwell. Uuurgh. However, the upshot was ...

New rescue suddenly showing very bad temper and behaviour

Hi All, I took in a rescue cat called Rory last friday, so today is day 5. We got him in a very poor and starving state (he'd been abandoned on the streets), so have fed him up and will continue to do so until he's a good weight again. Until yesterday he was all mellow and mild and a good soft tempe...

Hi guys, thanks for your advice XX In cat land, Rory (new boy) is getting very bold, he lay out across the lintel of Louis' room (our bedroom LOL  )!!!! Da da daaaaa! But he took a very submissive pose and just lay there making gooey eyes at Louis to persuade him to be friends. It seems to have...

Re: New rescue cat in poor state, advice needed on strengthening up and introducing to existing cat

Thanks, but I might have spoke too soon...I hung on in there for a couple of hours, got up to go the loo, then found Louis stalking Rory. When I got there the hissing and growling started  I'll keep ramping up their tightly supervised minglings over the next week or so, I still don't trust Lou...

When my old cat Louis came down at 7pm, Louis ignored him went outside to do his business, came back in had ...

New rescue cat in poor state, advice needed on strengthening up and introducing to existing cat

Dear all, I have one established cat of 14yo, and have had him since a rescue kitten with his sister, who sadly had to be put down last month as she was long term ill and just gave up.Our existing cat, Louis, is very sweet natured and gentle so I'm hoping he'll adapt alright to another cat with time...

Thanks very much Lilith! :-D Louis is actually a Maine Coon cross, black with a chocolate undercoat. His sister being a british short hair. She's so typical of the British shorthair, very very lazy and very loving towards our kids. Louis is so much like a maine coon in his character, extremely loyal...

Re: Advice on whether I can introduce a kitten into my 2 cat home

Thanks for your replies ladies, it's very useful to hear. It's funny, I grew up in a home that was practically the local cat refuge. My mum took in every waif and stray there was in the area. Some she kept as family pets, other she fed up, got vet treated and rehomed. So our house never had less tha...

Advice on whether I can introduce a kitten into my 2 cat home

Hiya, I have two cats, brother and sister that are 14yo. I took them from the rescue center as kittens, thinking I shouldn't separate the brother and sister and maybe they'll be friends for each other. Well that didn't happen. The sister was the cat that was friends with every person in the house ex...
