Thomas the cat

Post by Marie2015 »

Hi, my names Marie, can you help please?

As much as this is breaking my heart and this is not a decision I have come to lightly, this is something I have to do for my little Thomas. Thomas needs better care and someone who can give him all the attention and time he deserves. I was wondering if you could help me find a new home for my gorgeous Thomas.

I have had Thomas for 6 years. Thomas chose to live with me and moved in from my neighbor’s house next door. Not long after having Thomas he had gum disease and had to have all his teeth removed bar the two bottom K nines – bless him.
Thomas is a well loved, gorgeous black & White cat (pictures attached). I have the full breed details but I think he has some kind of Persian / Rag doll in him.

Thomas is 8 years old and currently suffers with diabetes and Pancreatitis. He is on insulin and needs to be injected (4 units) every 12 hours. He is currently being fed Applause natural food and has hypoallergenic biscuits.

The reason for this decision is because of the nature of my job I cannot always be home every 12 hours to inject him and I have no one to turn to, to help me. He requires a lot of attention, attention unfortunately I cannot give him because of my job. He is such a loving cat and has such a unique character; he’s still young and very energetic. Thomas is an outdoor/indoor cat but because of the diabetes has to be kept in when I’m not in which is every day all day. Hence I think this has made him quite lonely. I have a small house and I live on my own which in turn contributes to his behavior and the fact he always wants attention because he’s on his own all day. I have to monitor him when he goes out in case he scavenges food and causes himself to get ill.

I think Thomas would benefit from a loving full time home where someone is there all the time to give him the time, affection and care he needs. I love Thomas and have given him all I can for the last 6 years but now this just isn’t enough for him. As I said before I’m finding this extremely difficult but I am doing this for Thomas. He deserves to have a happy home which will give him all the love I give him and 10 times more.

Right now I feel Guilty and can’t stop crying yet I know I’m making the right decision for Thomas.

Please please please help me find him a new home that can give him all the love in the world.

Kind regards Marie

Hi Marie

How are you doing with your appeal for a home for Thomas. Where do you live?

My boy Edgar is around 9 years old, he is diabetic and has only four canines! He is injected twice a day with glargine and has been on a year's programme with the RVC and is doing well. He hasn't gone into remission as we hoped, but he is very stable. We have two other cats - both girls, one very senior at 18, and a younger girl of around 11 - both in good health. We live in SW London and have a cat proofed garden so they all go out whenever they like when we are at home but are indoors when we are out and at night.

Feel free to email me for a chat about things - [email protected].

Sarah and Edgar
