Animal Friends Insurance

Post by meriad »

Does anyone have their pet insured with these guys and if yes any feed back - be it good or bad?

I'm having a bit or a problem with PetPlan and Harry and the moment. He's had quite a few exclusions dumped on his policy and it really doesn't seem to make sense paying what I am for him if I can get another good, but cheaper, insurance that will cover the few bits that can be (and who knows, maybe one that will be open to reviewing the exclusions which PetPlan are refusing to do outright. So frustrating as I thought that most exclusions would be lifted if no claim relating to that condition was made for a certain time period, 2 years or so?

I've never heard good feedback about them, but the only person I know who uses them has never needed to claim. I thought exclusions could be lifted.

I've heard lots of complaints about AF trying not to pay out.

How is Harry?

thanks both - think I'll give them a skip then.

Marla, thanks for asking - he's doing OK. Petplan have said they're not covering the endoscopy and right now I don't have the £2500 that the referral specialist has quoted. It's all just so frustrating - the reason they're not paying out is because back in 2014 when I took him for his boosters we had the usual general chit chat about how he was etc and I mentioned that he was more sneezy than the other cats. Now it was only a random comment, we've never investigated it further or had a need to but it was written in the notes. Then same thing in 2015; during general booster chat I mentioned sneezing and again it was written down. Problem comes that when Axa stopped their pet insurance I (same as quite a few) didn't go with the company that took over because no-one knew anything about them and I moved both Harry and Monty to Petplan so my gang were now all with the same company - major major error on my part I now realise.

Because of the words sneezing Harry now has exclusions for anything to do with nose / allergy etc... so so frustrating. He also had ear polyps which are being excluded. And there is one other thing I cannot remember - but these exclusions are now apparently not open for review and I gather from the way they worded it that they are lifelong exclusions.

But the reason we were looking to do the endoscopy is that for about a year now, when he sneezes he's got quite horrid nasal discharge, which he hasn't had before - but they're not interested that that is a new development. Sneeze and you're out!

Oh well, rant over about PetPlan; things are what they are and for now I'm going to try other things first. He's now been put on a 2 week course of Ronaxan and if I think it makes a difference in the next few days then we're going to extend that 2 week course by another few weeks to see if we can sort it with meds.

In the meantime I'm contacting other vets in my area to see if they have the ability to carry out endoscopies / rhinoscopies in house and if yes, get a quote to see how they compare with specialist referral centres.

sigh..... lesson for all; stick with an insurance once it's in place

I'm glad he's doing OK. That's a shame they won't cover the tests.

Insurance companies in general - !!! They make up the rules as they go along. 'Oh, your cat is ginger, we only pay out on tabbys, unless there is an 'R' in the month, and then only on a Tuesday.'
