Lost my beautiful best friend

Our beautiful indoor/outdoor 8 year old cat Lola went missing two days ago, and yesterday we unfortunately found her passed away outside our house beside a main road. I feel so angry that someone could be so cruel and take her life like this. I feel broken and can't deal with knowing that I am never going to cuddle, pet, kiss, or tell her I love her again.
Lola was the most beautiful, friendly, affectionate cat I've ever met, I don't know how to go on from here.
Any advice or support from anyone who has gone through this would mean the world to me, thank you.

I'm so very sorry to hear this, it must have been a dreadful shock to find her like that. You may never find out exactly what happened, but in all likelyhood it was just a terrible accident. I lost my little Peaches to the road a couple of years ago, and though the pain has dulled, I still miss her every day. We buried her in a lovely spot in the garden and planted a shrub to remember her by, I really found that focusing on the practicalities at the time helped me to deal with the awful sense of loss.

I wish I could say something to make you feel better, but right now I doubt I can - all I can do is promise you that you will get through it, and there will come a time when you'll be able to remember her without such pain. (((hugs)))

Rest in peace Lola, such a beautiful cat. xx

Very sorry to hear of this sad loss.

On 28th December 2004 at about 4.50pm our beautiful Tabby boy Harry nipped out of our front door when I opened it to let someone in. A knock at my door just after 5pm from a neighbour asking if I have a cat made me feel physically sick. I prayed he had maybe fractures or anything but was still alive. He wasn't. My beautiful boy who was only 6 years old had gone, cut down by a man who lived just opposite me, driving too fast up our quiet residential street.

My boy had fur patches missing from his head, blood coming from his nose and mouth so it seemed he must have run out and been hit on his head and passed away immediately. Of course the man's wife was very apologetic but there was nothing anyone could say. I remember how I felt that day, I remember the feeling of wanting to turn the clock back 20 minutes and me not to have opened the front door. To this day I feel guilty that I did.

I cried and cried and cried and even now all these years later thinking about Harry too much brings tears to my eyes.

Loss of a pet is very hard to bear. Some people cannot understand how you could feel that way about an animal who was "only a cat" or "just a pet" but people like that have no empathy or understanding of the sense of loss there is. The desperate feeling that comes from knowing you will never see them again, never pet them again - I know it well.

I think if you have a pet and know they are ill and will not get better you have time to prepare yourself although that is never easy but in the case of being knocked down by a car then you have no time at all. One minute they are a young healthy cat, the next they are gone.

Time is a great healer and in time you will feel less broken although of course you will never ever forget your dear girl but time will make her passing easier to bear. Lola looked a beautiful girl indeed.

I am so sorry to hear about Lola, what a horrible shock for you.

I have only just posted on another thread about our lovely old boy Tommy. He came to us as an adult cat so we can only guess his age as mid teens. He had been suffering with CKD and we had decided to call it a day after the Christmas holidays. Tommy asked to go out so I let him, saying 'don't be long'. After half an hour I went to look for him. As a rule he never left our large garden, but something drew me to the gate. There he was, in the road. As Gillian said, our Tommy would not have suffered, it was over too quickly. The overwhelming sadness gets me even now. He was near the end anyway but it is no comfort to lose him that way. He is buried in the garden next to his long-time friend, Rosie dog. She has her own 'Dog' rose and Tommy a Heuchera called 'Thomas'. Both plants have been lovely this year. I still talkto him every time I pass by.

I wish there was somethingI could say to take away the pain. It does get easier, but never goes completely. It's one of the things we have to accept when we share our lives with these wonderful creatures.

RIP Lola, play happily at the bridge.

Hi, Im so sorry unfortunately we all have a sad story to tell, losing our furbabies, My Miley died on 4th june, collapsed in the garden 25mins she had gone, i was and still am devastated...... The only advice i can give, is what these guys gave me( they were all great) Its very raw for you at the moment as you will feel ike your heart has been ripped from your chest..... as time went on for me i found i had good days and bad, i still cry i have her ashes buried in my garden i speak to her daily usually a load of rubbish hahaha. Time is a good healer just focus on one day at a time.... talk about your cat i had a photo enlarged and i hung it on my wall so as soon as i come in i see it.......
i found this verse helped me
gone from my side
but always in my heart
take care
sharon

My house cat Baby Monkey has been missing for 4 weeks.
It's breaking my heart every time I think of her and where she could be. I've done everything possible to find her but always come back empty handed which destroys me even more.
This may sound crass but if I knew she had passed I think I would have at least had closure. But not knowing and waiting for her to pop her head around the patio door is unbearable.

I just want her home.

I'm sorry to hear about Lola. There's nothing I can do or say to make it better. I lost my beautiful one year old Smudge to the road two weeks ago today. I've cried myself to sleep nearly every night since. Time will heal the wounds i'm sure but at the moment i'm struggling as well. Nothing quite prepares you for the feeling of guilt the what ifs the regret you never had the chance to say goodbye. Just focus on the good times you had with Lola. For me that's all I can do. Hope you feel better soon.

BigStew - best you start a new thread about Baby Monkey

there's others here who know only too well the pain of just not knowing, but there are some too whose missing cat did come home, even after many weeks of being missing
