A tribute to George Cat, one of the 'Founding Felines' of Cat Chat
George Cat, together with Gemini, was one of the Founding Felines of Cat Chat. He
passed to Rainbow Bridge at the age of only eight and a half, having co-presented
the site for four and a half years.
George was 'half Turkish Van and half
not', and was a funny, sweet, cute,
silly, handsome and lovable cat, who endeared himself to anyone
who knew him. He was definitely a one-off, and here at Cat Chat we
were privileged to have known and loved the little rascal since rescuing
him at eight weeks. He will be fondly remembered, and never
forgotten.
Below are some of the 'best bits' from George's life - a life well lived.

GEORGE
CAT (Defender of the Universe) - A life well lived:
Rescued:
George was rescued in the summer of 1996, at only two
days old. His mother had been hit by a car when she was just
about
to give
birth. She struggled, injured, into someone's garden shed and
gave birth to George. Sadly, her second kitten died. She
was too badly hurt to move, or to care for George, so he took
it upon himself to call for help. So it was, at only two
days
old, George
learned to do what he carried on doing through his life ~ he
wailed at the top of his voice!
Adopted:
At Cat Chat Towers, Gemini had just lost her feline housemate
to FIP, and so there was a 'cat vacancy'. When the rescue
folks carried out the home check, one lady remarked: "Little
George, would like it here". George was then eight weeks
old, having been hand-reared at the rescue. He arrived wrapped
in a blanket, and within a couple of days he and Gemini were
firm friends, which they remained for all his life.
Being George:
Never one to sit still for long, George made certain to pack
as much into his life as he could. Amongst his many 'best things',
were: mouse chasing, frog plopping, inventing
games, being cute, wailing, bird catching (and eating), contemplating
(and defending) the universe, operating the TV remote control,
doing superb poos, and being responsible for some of the most
amusing diary entries.
Inventing Games:
If something could be played with, you could always rely
on George to do just that. Thus, he is credited with inventing
the following: Plop Goes the Frog, Rug-Tug, Newspaper Football,
Coffee Table Skating, Blanket Boxing, Horizontal Pull-ups, Three-Squeaker
play-fights, and other passtimes too numerous or silly to mention.
Fame, Fame, Fame!:
When George reached the quarter finals of the 'Arthurs Awards',
he got his picture on the front page of the local paper.
His write-up deservedly made columns one to three,
relegating
a story about then-politician Jonathan Aitken into columns
four to six! (yes, we still have a copy!).
His other claim to fame was winning a 2nd place rosette in the
local RSPCA Catless Cat Show for the picture of him drinking
out of the loo.
George's Greatest Achievement:
George would probably have said that his greatest achievement
was catching two mice in 20 minutes, but we rather think
it was his huge contribution to making Cat Chat
what
it is today. He became an 'Honorary Trustee' when we became
a charity in 2003, and has inspired many people to adopt
from a rescue centre, helping many cats find their 'forever' home. We're proud to have known and loved him.
We'll never forget you matey. |
