TAG Pet Rescue Suffers Epidemic
URGENT FUNDING APPEAL

TAG Pet Rescue is at full capacity with over 60 cats and kittens needing homes. Due to an outbreak of ringworm and cat flu the centre is at a standstill unable to take in any new admits or re-home any of the resident cats until the epidemic is brought under control. TAG came to the rescue of 3 abandoned kittens that were in desperate need of a roof over their heads, unfortunately they had ringworm which quickly spread to other cats in the cattery. At the same time a stray came into the shelter that unbeknown to TAG was incubating cat flu another contagious cat disease.

The spread of these diseases could have been contained if TAG had an isolation unit in which to put new residents prior to admission into the main sanctuary

Sanctuary Manager, Chris Kiddell envisages that to build an isolation facility would cost in the region of £50,000 and is appealing to the public to help with this project. The isolation facility would need to be constructed in UPVC to enable diseases to be contained and aid complete disinfection. An air filtration system would be installed to purify the air of contaminants that cause the spread airborne diseases such as cat flu. TAG would like to welcome all new cats to the sanctuary via an isolation facility to ensure that a similar epidemic does not reoccur. There is room to build the isolation facility at the Lydden Farm Centre but lack of funding stops this from happening.

Chris Kiddell, is sad that the 60 cats and kittens will have to wait at least 8 weeks before she is able to begin to find them home. 8 weeks in a cattery is a long time for a young kitten that really needs to be with a new family learning to be a loving family member.

TAG Pet Rescue is appealing for people to make donations, every little helps. People donating £100 or more towards the unit will get a plaque dedicated to a loved one displayed on the isolation unit.
The pens themselves are essential but expensive which is why we have not had them in place before now.

Chris is really appealing for help to stop this from happening again. It saddens us all to turn away cats that are desperate for a place at the sanctuary. Please look into your hearts and help us stop this tragedy again by donating as much as you can to the isolation project. You could always help by holding your own fundraising event such as a coffee morning with friends or a wine and wisdom evening. TAG is always looking for people to help with fundraising so if you have any ideas or are able to help in any way please contact the sanctuary.

Please send any donations to TAG Pet Rescue, Lydden Farm Valley Road, Margate, Kent or call on 01843 822931
