Barbara and Barney
We have been fostering Barbara and Barney for a few months now, and have watched them grow from being petrified strays, to adapting to living well with humans. Though both are still very guarded, they will sometimes accept treats from our hands and love a good play session with a piece of string (their favourite toy!). Both cats absolutely love their food and are very grateful for the occasional treat: neither one ever leaves a trace of their meal!

Barbara (white and black) is an absolute sweetheart – very gentle but timid, and will hiss if she feels threatened. She doesn’t like being touched but always seems to be within a few metres of us. She is no trouble at all and sleeps for a lot of the day – waking to eat or to have a play. It will be so rewarding to see her come out of herself more.

Barney (ginger tom) is a very different cat to Barbara. Absolutely full of energy – we sometimes say he’s like a dog in a cat’s body – and never turns down a play session. He is curious and itching to get outside, and is also very vocal and will charm you with the wide range of sounds and meows he makes. Lately he tolerates an ear scratch which he loves, until he remembers he doesn’t like being touched and gently paws you away.

We’d love them to stay together. Barney is definitely the dominant cat and asserts himself with Barbara – and although he sometimes antagonises her, he responds when we tell him ‘No’! (We hope he’ll stop bothering Barbara so much when he is able to expend his energy better.) Despite this, they often cuddle up together in the evenings.

We’d love Barney and Barbara to go to a loving forever home, with owners that will take the time to appreciate their difficult backgrounds and work on their continual progress with people. They can’t be homed with young children and we are not sure how they would respond with other cats but as Barney is quite dominant, we think they should be the only pets. A garden away from busy roads is essential too (especially for Barney).
