Felix
Felix is a 4-year-old neutered male. After living as a stray Felix has decided he likes the finer things in life, and certainly enjoys his food! When he sees his fosterer he will greet them at the door to his pen, especially at dinner time.

Felix is happy, and content, to lie in a warm, sunny spot and watch the world go by around him. Because of his laid-back nature, Felix could live in an indoor only home. Once he’s feeling safe and secure in a loving home setting, his adorable personality will shine, and he will happily hand out some head bops.

While in our care it was discovered that he is diabetic, so he does need injections twice daily, along with special food which, not surprisingly, he loves!

He would be best in a home with no other pets as it will be easier to monitor him this way. However, this friendly boy can join a home with children 8 years +. He is looking for either an indoor only home or one away from busy roads and railways.

Felix is neutered, microchipped and fully vaccinated. We hope come and meet him: we know you’ll fall in love.

A safe, secure, quiet room to start off in would be ideal for Felix. A room where he can have a separate area for food and water. For a litter tray placed as far away as possible from his food and water. For somewhere to hide, access to a high spot where he can view his surroundings, a suitable place to sleep or, ideally, a choice of them, a scratching post and a few cat toys and space for him to play. We would recommend a Feliway diffuser in his room, as he will likely hide away for a few days when he goes to his new home.

More about diabetes and what it means for Felix and his new owner.
Diabetes affects the control of blood sugar levels; this usually occurs because the pancreas is not producing enough insulin. Insulin helps move glucose from the blood into cells so if a cat like Felix doesn’t have enough, they are left with high circulating levels of glucose in the blood stream.

As an owner of a diabetic cat, you will need to inject Felix twice daily with insulin, it’s quite easy to do once you have been shown how and Felix tolerates his injections well. Regular check up with the vets will ensure Felix has the correct insulin dose. At home there are a few simple things that you can do to help Felix like closely monitoring how much he drinks and how much he urinates, as increases in either of these could mean his diabetes is less stable. We also advise that he has a special diabetic diet and remains on this for the rest of his life, feeding this diet and keeping Felix a normal body weight can really help to keep his diabetes stable. Changes in bodyweight are another way to monitor how stable Felix’s diabetes is.
