Bagheera
Bagheera looks just like her namesake - she is a stunning, long-haired black 'panther' cat. At nearly seven
years old, she is elegant and refined, loves to chat to her human companions, and has a warm, soft rolling
purr. She currently has an old, grubby shoelace which she absolutely loves to play with, especially if you
dangle it in amongst chair legs or around her cat tree. She has an array of shiny new toys available, which
she studiously ignores in favour of the shoelace. She loves to sit in the window watching the birds and
enjoys the stimulation of a multi-level cat tree. At night, she sleeps very quietly at the foot of the bed.
Occasionally, in the morning she'll come and ask for a fuss and settle on her fosterer's chest.
Before coming into our care, Bagheera had only ever had one owner and was an indoor cat. She was
handed in because grandchildren had become regular visitors and she began to show signs of aggression
towards them. Through observation and careful handling in her foster home, it seems that Bagheera gets
very very worried if she isn't sure what a hand coming towards her is about to do! As a result, she may
swipe at it. This has happened just a handful of times in the early days of her foster stay, but with no claws
out. Now that she fully trusts the humans around her, she has stopped doing this altogether and is a warm,
friendly and interactive companion.
So, Bagheera needs a quiet adult-only home with people who are experienced at reading cat body language
and can respond very sensitively if she becomes worried. Being long-haired, she is prone to matts and
hairballs. She won't currently allow a brush near her, so her adopters would need to be aware that grooming
/ knots / hairballs will need consideration going forward. Whilst she has been an indoor cat, she is showing
an interest in the garden and we feel she would greatly benefit from the stimulation that carefully managed
access to a safe garden would provide. It seems also that some food brands can upset Bagheera's tummy,
but adopters will be given full information about the food that keeps her settled. Bagheera isn't a
straightforward cat - at least during her settling-in period - but once you have her trust she is an absolute
sweetheart and a wonderful feline companion.
