Kirby (FIV+) - RESERVED
Handsome new arrival Kirkby is approximately 10 years old and looking for his new best friend. He was recently surrendered to one of our collaborating vet’s for treatment, having been discovered living as a stray. Like the majority of strays, he clearly had a home once, but was abandoned or lost.

Kirkby is a friendly, affectionate and chatty boy and is happy to accept strokes and fuss from the outset. He will greet you with a series of meows. He has one for when he’s hungry, another if you are not giving him enough attention or one just because he wants to say hello! This loving boy is very much a people person so needs to have plenty of company in his forever home, both during the day and in the evenings.

Kirkby has FIV, or Feline Immunodeficiency Virus. This diagnosis has come with a great deal of stigma in the past, even among vets, but it is not as many mistakenly believe a death sentence, nor is it easily spread. FIV can be passed onto other cats only through severe, deep bites, and FIV+ cats can live long, comfortable lives, with the condition simply making their immune system more vulnerable than average.

To avoid these risks to his health Kirkby is in need of a spacious home with a large balcony or terrace that can be cat proofed.. We can advise on making balconies or gardens cat-safe with netting. Read more about FIV and the myths surrounding it here.

Kirkby is also severely anaemic and is currently on medication to help with this and will soon return to the vet for a blood test to check his red blood cell count. This can be discussed further with our adoptions team when making an enquiry.

Kikby would best suit a fairly calm home where he could enjoy his senior years in utter comfort being loved and spoiled and taken for regular health checks.

We home FIV+ cats to spacious indoor homes, or homes with some secure outdoors access such as a large catproofed balcony, terrace or cat proofed garden. We can advise on making balconies cat-safe with netting. Kirkby would like to be the only pet in his forever home.
