Angus (FIV+) - RESERVED
On occasion we at Catcuddles are asked to rehome pedigree cats. As with any cat it is important to match them to a suitable forever home. We have chosen not to include photos or videos as we want initial interest to be from those able to offer a home that meets the needs of the cat.

Friendly boy Angus is a confident semi-longhaired male. 14 year old Angus is a handsome, cuddle monster who loves his food. He might initially be shy, but a shake of a tin of Cosma Snackies, and he will come running to you. Angus will be waiting for you when you get home and may jump into your arms. Once he lets you get settled he enjoys head scritches. Angus wants to be the centre of attention and does not tolerate kindly to sharing his human(s) with another cat or dog so is best as the only pet in the home.

Angus has never lived with children so would be best suited to a spacious, adult-only home or one with older children. Angus would love his new home to have some catproofed outside space such as a balcony, terrace or catio.

Angus was diagnosed with FIV some years ago however so far he has not displayed any symptoms of a weakened immune system. Angus has recently had several dental extractions and a recent blood test indicated he may be showing signs of early kidney disease but will need a urine test to confirm this. Kidney disease is a common ailment, affecting many older cats. Early detection allows for steps to be taken to alter a cat’s diet through food easily purchased online or from a pet store and Angus’ health needs can be discussed further with the adoptions team.

FIV, or Feline Immunodeficiency Virus, is a much-misunderstood virus believed to effect 2.5-4.4% of cats globally. In the past, cats that have tested positive for FIV have been euthanised, but the more we learn about this condition the more apparent it has become that FIV cats can live happy and comfortable lives. The virus has a very slow effect on a cat's immune system, potentially weakening it over several years, and sometimes making that cat more vulnerable to secondary infections in the long-term. Every cat's immune response is different however, and the right environment is the key to maintaining good health in an FIV cat; a balanced diet and a happy and suitable home. You can read more about FIV+ and visit some recommended resources here.

Anyone adopting an indoor cat from us needs to be committed to creating a stimulating and enriching indoor environment and ensuring it is safe, i.e. cat proofing any windows that will be opened, and fully cat proofing a balcony, terrace or garden if there is one. When catproofing this means ensuring it is fully enclosed, not permitting access is not usually sufficient. If their family are using the balcony, the cat should also be able to and whilst a cat will not jump if there is nowhere to go, accidents can and do happen so this is essential to do to ensure the safety of your adopted cat. The adoptions team can offer further advice on this.

Before submitting an adoption enquiry it is important to ensure that you have read our adoption info page: Adopting a cat from Catcuddles. Please carefully consider if you are able to offer what Angus needs before getting in touch and if you are not in a position to adopt for some weeks or months we request you wait until you are ready to register your interest to adopt.

No matter what their age, all adopted cats leave Catcuddles with trial insurance and this is important to take out. For our senior cats the trial insurance is with Agria and if a policy is purchased within the trial period then you’ll be able to take out a policy for lifetime cover. Any adopter would need to be financially comfortable to cover the cost of any pre-existing exclusions and be mindful of the higher cost of insurance for a pedigree cat.

Our priority is to match felines with homes that suit their needs, character and long term requirements. Please be aware that when particular cats receive an unusually high volume of enquiries, our dedicated adoptions volunteers may only be able to pursue the most promising. We appreciate your understanding.
