Nellie May
Nellie-May is a 10 year+ senior lady looking for a quiet and understanding home where she can relax and take it easy in her later years.
She was found straying and handed into a vets, Nellie-May found herself worried in her new surroundings and became quite stressed. Since coming into rescue she is settling down and learning to enjoy some creature comforts. Heating is a particular favourite!
Though she has become confident enough with her trusted new friends to enjoy some gentle grooming and loves a head scratch she can still get startled and can show her feistier side in these moments. Though generally this is mostly noise, she has occasionally swiped or mouthed so we feel it is important her new home is with cat savvy folks and without any children. Nellie-May is not used to other cats or dogs.
Nellie-May arrived at Rescue Me with several health concerns and has since had a full dental, leaving her with very few teeth. Her bloodwork revealed she is in the early stages of kidney disease. She has since been on a renal diet and medication and is coping well. This is something that will need to continue as she goes on to her new home and it is important her new family understand this condition will not be insurable. Nellie-May is also on a trial of medication and supplements for arthritis (stiff joints) and this may also need to be continued. Nellie-May can sound like she has a heart issue but once sedated this improves significantly so is exacerbated by stress of going to the vets. Her rescue medical notes can be sent to a potential adopters vets prior to adoption.
If an adopter is flexible and local, Rescue Me can provide and administer this medication but Nellie-May would need to be brought to our HQ site in Melling when our vet team are here on a monthly basis. This would significantly reduce the costs of her medical needs for an adopter who would then just need to cover her renal food and yearly blood test.
At her senior time of life Nellie-May likes a very leisurely life, she is slow moving and likes to rest but behind her sass has really enjoyed being given fuss and affection too. We are grateful to be able to give cats like Nellie-May a chance at a comfortable and loving retirement, and hope the right person is out there waiting to give her just that.
Nellie-May is in foster in Southport. Please call us on 07952017696 and leave a voicemail for ANY adoption enquiries
