Beau
This handsome chonk is Beau. He is about 8 years old and likely to be a British Blue. Beau was found as a very poorly stray and his finder spent a lot of time and money on getting him well but wasn’t in a position to be able to manage his health issues long term so he came into foster with us.

Beau has a condition called triaditis which means he suffers from inflammation of his pancreas, liver and small intestine. It can be managed with a strict diet and after following the diet and some medication, all his tests have now come back normal.

Beau is a lovely purry boy with lots of character and is always making his foster mum laugh with his antics. He will try to squeeze into the smallest cat bed he can find or flop down in the middle of the doorway to snooze. If he flops down in the corridor and you walk past him without giving him a stroke he will bat you for neglecting him. He does like to play although he is quite selective about the toys he likes and gets bored very quickly. Despite his size, Beau can be scared of noises or people/objects he isn’t familiar with – whilst being scared of the hoover is pretty standard, hissing at the mop bucket and running away is a new one on us.

Beau will need a quieter home, teenage children should be fine but everyone in the household will need to understand that food cannot be left out anywhere Beau could eat it and that he can’t get out into an uncontrolled environment where he could beg or scavenge food. The specialist food he eats will cost under £5 a week, he likes it and so long as he stays on it and his weight is maintained his condition should remain stable. He is a large cat and used to going outside so any future home would need a lot of space, ideally with a secure garden or catio to keep him occupied and provide him with exercise. He would need to be the only pet to manage his diet properly but as he seems to absolutely hate other cats that would suit him just fine!

Neutered, chipped, had first vaccination plus comes with 5 weeks free insurance. As insurance won’t cover his triaditis, BWCR will cover any costs relating to this at Fernlea vets in Kingswood or Hanham. We must stress he needs responsible owners who will keep him on his diet – no treats, no tidbits!
