"I really am a most fortunate old cat!
This is because, being imaginary, I am never cold or hungry, and always have lots of friends to keep me company and look after me. So it worries me very much to realise that so many real, live, beautiful cats are left lonely, homeless and unloved, when I know that there are really plenty of people in the world who would be glad of their company and be happy to be their friends. That is why I would like to commend to you, my friends, this most feline website: www.catchat.org, where they will help you to find a cat-friend, if you are a person, or a person-friend, if you are a cat."Bagpuss (Cat Chat Patron)
When Rescuing, please consider the most overlooked cats...
Senior Kittizens: Please consider rescuing an older cat, they are usually undemanding and need little or no house training! Many rescues operate a 'puss pension' scheme, whereby they will pay for unforseen vet bills, even after rehoming. Top 10 reasons to Adopt an Oldie!
Black, and Black & White Cats: Did you know black & white cats often get overlooked in favour of 'prettier' colours. All-black cats are also often passed by, even with their 'lucky' reputation. Give a black & white cat or a 'lucky black cat' a chance! Top 10 reasons to Adopt a Black Cat!
Cats with Health Issues: Cats with minor health problems find it harder to be rehomed, yet rescue centres will often pay for their vet bills even after rehoming. Could you adopt a diabetic cat? A three-legged cat? A deaf or blind cat perhaps?
Shy or Nervous Cats: Very shy cats so often get overlooked, yet these can be the most loyal of pets once you have gained their trust. They might start out hiding under the bed, but how rewarding when they finally sit on your lap!
'Indoor Cats': Want a cat, but live in a flat? Although a cat's natural instinct is to go outside, some cats can be better suited to the indoor life: Cats with FIV, deaf cats, blind cats, very nervous or elderly cats, or simply cats who have previously been used to living indoors. Ask at your local Rescue Centre
Feral Cats: Each year, many rural-living cats find themselves homeless due to changes in land usage. All they require is regular food, somewhere warm & dry to sleep and veterinary attention when needed. In return you will get an efficient mouse-patrol! Ideal homes for feral cats are farms, smallholdings, stables etc. Find out more about Feral Cats.
Cat Fostering: Would you like to care for a cat, but don't want the lifelong responsibility that goes with it? Many rescues rely on cat foster homes to care for cats 'between homes' particularly in kitten season when many rescues are bursting to the seams.
