Re: Twinks has her forever home
Thank you :) I love the older and the special needs ones, but my other half wanted a young one (he mentioned kittens a few times!) I can understand why, because for well over a year I couldn't go anywhere for longer than about 12 hours at a time because Pip needed so much care and was on so many med...

Re: Twinks has her forever home
We think she is about 3 (Hops is 9ish but still quite playful). The lady who introduced her to us said she was brought in by her owners to the low-cost vet clinic with a prolapsed rectum and they just never came back for her :( I don't understand how people can do that, but apparently it's very comm...

Awww lovely news Helen :) do pass some fusses on to Twinks for me. She has a lovely face – I do love a B&W cat! I don't know whether you were on Catchat back when I had Clay, but he had a flea allergy (actually, he was allergic to all sorts, poor boy could hardly eat anything without coming out ...

Re: Feline Asthma!
Hello, how has Dylan been over the weekend? I hope he's doing all right. My boy Hops also has suspected asthma. He has had sporadic respiratory problems over the past few years, with several chest infections that seemed to respond well to treatment, but he also brings up froth from time to time, and...

Re: Xanax ... anyone given this to their cat?
Hops has had it to try to make journeys less stressful for him. The vet did advise doing a 'test run' before using it for travel, as if the dose is insufficient it can make them hyper instead of chilled, so might be worth asking about giving that a go before the move. If you do that, watch what Blac...

Re: Incoming ....... Buzz
Lovely to hear a happy update about Buzz, Helen. Fingers crossed he has found his forever home, it sounds like his canine companion is a sweetie. It must be tough on animals when they lose a companion and don't understand why. We've just adopted a new cat as we lost our lovely Lady P at the start of...

Yes, Ria, that would have been me :) good at remembering random details! Lovely to hear that JJ has settled so quickly, it sounds like he and H are a great fit for one another. Hops is about 9 now, but still very lively and mischievous, we moved recently and he LOVES the staircase, he can't get enou...

Re: Cat possibly swallowed string
I remember the troubles with H and the insurance company, I think someone's suggestion to get around it was 'Aitch'! Although my favourite 'H' memory has to be the one involving Glen's chicken... I hope JJ is continuing to zoom around the place, lovely that he's made friends with H so quickly. We're...

Re: Downturned whiskers
Looking at Hops the other evening I realised his whiskers do curve in a downward direction, although not as much as Ria's! I will try to get a picture where they are visible. Helen, yes, Pip does still eat on the bed, I suspect much to my neighbour's horror – he came up to look out onto the flat roo...

Re: Downturned whiskers
I think you'd know if the whiskers were causing Ria any trouble. Years ago our family cat appeared one day with a bunch of short whiskers on one side (we assumed they had got caught in something!) and he kept walking into things! (Fortunately they grew back relatively quickly.) Hi Helen, good to see...

Re: Downturned whiskers
Perhaps the downturned whiskers are a result of having long hair? The average long-haired cat can fit through spaces much smaller than onlookers might expect because so much of their 'size' is fluff. Perhaps the whiskers reach far enough out to correspond to the cat's actual body width and the extra...

Awww I do love reading the stories of your fosters, Helen, they are always 'my' kind of cats! One day when we have some outdoor space I would love to try my hand at fostering the hard-luck cases, but I suspect I'd be hopeless at letting them go! I can't magnify the pic on my phone, but if the bald p...

Re: Yankee candles
I avoid burning scented candles/oils at all, as just because many essential oils are 'safe' for us doesn't mean they are ok for cats. Our livers work differently, and cats don't have the enzymes required to fully metabolise many essential oils. Using small amounts in well-ventilated areas probably d...

Lovely to have an update on Boris and H! Good to hear they are both doing well, and that H has stopped sneezing. Re: Frequent diarrhoea issues
Clay reacted very badly to fish as well, the first (and last) time I fed him tuna he was ripping at his mouth with his claws within 20 minutes :( Interestingly, though he was fine on some foods containing fish oil... Unfortunately some cats react to a specific meat, Clay couldn't have anything with ...

Re: Frequent diarrhoea issues
Just to add to Mark's comments, I used to have an FIV lad who had terribly sensitive skin, and it took me a long time to find foods he could tolerate – he reacted to wheat, dairy AND fish! He did well on chicken and turkey-based foods. Later on, he abruptly stopped tolerating dry foods of any descri...

Re: Frequent diarrhoea issues
Secondly, regarding the 4% thing - for me that doesnt make much sense. Let me explain: A person who is watching their diet, lets say their fat intake, would look at the back of the packaging to see the fat %. So the same should apply to cat food. Hi...with regard to the above, you're comparing two ...

Re: Strange random chewing movements when not eating?
A better idea would be to show a vet the video of Cindy eating. Does your vet know how long this has been going on for? Did she recommend any further investigations, perhaps under sedation? I'm not sure how good a look any vet can realistically get in a cat's mouth while the animal is awake, I've ne...

Re: Little Fluffy has gone to sleep
I know it's very upsetting for us seeing them distressed, but I imagine cats see the vet as 'the enemy' in these situations, not us – we are the ones who offer comfort and safety. I know we are inclined to feel that they might 'blame' us for the unpleasant things that happen to them, but whenever I ...

I'm so sorry to hear this, Carol. Thinking of you. Re: Urgent. Foster home needed for 4 cats for about 4 month
I agree that CatCuddles would be a good place to start. WHATEVER YOU DO, DO NOT USE GUMTREE. It is frequently used by people looking to offer cats a 'free' home, the cats are then used as bait to train fighting dogs. This isn't just a scare story, Celia Hammond can tell you it's a very real problem....
