Re: Trying to tempt Fluffy to eat

Hi, I am so sorry to hear about Fluffy. That prognosis must be so worrying for you. And trying to get food into a cat that doesn't want to eat is extremely frustrating and upsetting. I am quite new to dealing with CRF (am in process of adopting a foster kitty who can't be rehomed because he's been f...

Re: Feline Diabetes Remission Clinic at the RVC

...The main mystery is why he has such poor curves at our vet. ( Perhaps he finds your vet's clinic to be a particularly stressful environment. Could that be possible? Some cats have really high blood glucose at the vet but much lower levels at home. (Might there be dogs housed close by at the same...

Re: Feline Diabetes Remission Clinic at the RVC

Hi Sarah, I'm sorry to hear that Edgar may have Acromegaly. Did the vets say why they suspect this? (The insulin dose is usually much higher than this before Acro is suspected). Have they suggested that Edgar has an IGF-1 test to confirm? Have you noticed any physical changes in him? There's a list ...

Re: Feline Diabetes Remission Clinic at the RVC

Hi Sarah, I may be able to help you. There have been several folks on the Feline Diabetes Message Board who've been on the RVC's Trial. A couple of those cats went into remission and their caregivers aren't posting on FDMB at the moment. (One of those is a lady called Cassandra Croft (cat's name, An...

Re: Does this mean I won't get my shed?

My understanding is that the hyper T test isn't included in the 'routine' pre-op tests. It's something that needs to be done separately.

Just want to say, I know your shed may be in tatters but your heart is sound....
Bless you for caring...

Re: Which food do you use?

I fed my lot Science Diet dry food (on the advice of my vet) until one of them became diabetic at the age of 8.... I then learned that the Science Diet was no good for my diabetic for two reasons; firstly, it was choc full of carbohydrates (which sends blood glucose sky high) and secondly it is...we...

Re: coming inside

I'd catch her and bring her back in for at least three weeks, if not four. One or two weeks really isn't long enough for a cat to 'put down roots'. I know it will be painful, for you both, but it's the only way to make them feel 'at home' and it will pass and be worth it. I absolutely agree with 'C...

Re: coming inside

Hi,

Well done for rehoming an adult cat. :-)

A few questions:
How long did you keep her indoors before letting her out for the first time?
Has anything happened in the house that might have frightened her?
Do you have a catflap, or are you letting her in/out by opening a door as needed?

Cat very friendly then defensive/aggressive. Help!

I'm new to fostering. This is just the second time I've fostered a cat. (My first fosters were 2 feral kittens.) Am very concerned about the stray that I've just fostered. When I was asked if I could foster her she was described as "very friendly". But, 2 days in, it seems she has somethin...

Re: Food for Diabetic cats

Hi Sarah, Here's the link to the FDMB list of diabetic-friendly foods in the UK (the list also shows where the food can be bought, and the percentage of calories from carbs). There is a lot of choice here, but there may well be some low carb foods out there that aren't on the list yet. https://docs....

I realise I have dispensed the insulin into the syringe cap in any event so I will be starting again!! It is now 2 hours since she ate her breakfast - shall I continue to try? I have just tried my first solo injection but no joy yet as I can't get hold of her scruff! What else could her be wrong with the stomach if it's not a bacteria/parasite thing, I'd imagine it's not food intolerance as she's just been on the chicken and rice for nearly 2 weeks with no improvement. Hi, If it were my cat - and bacteria and parasites had been ruled out - I would be wondering ...

Re: Lump on stomach. Abcess or tumour?

Hello, That lump might well be an abcess if Ferryn has been fighting, but I would definitely recommend a vet visit ASAP to be sure. (Is the lump anywhere near a nipple?) I've had several cats that had tumours and early treatment definitely gives the best chance of survival. And if it is an abcess th...

Hi, Just a few thoughts... Has your cat had any constipation or other poo problems? Sometimes if a cat has had pain/discomfort while pooping in the litter box it can associate the litter box with a painful experience and be reluctant to return to it for a while. (Ditto for any other negative experie...

Re: Pancreas low enzyme reading.

Does the vet think that Harry may be borderline EPI (exocrine pancreatic insufficiency)? EPI could account for some weight loss because the lack of pancreatic enzymes will mean that he can't get all the nutrients from the food he's eating. Is his poo large/fluffy/pale/smelly...? (That can be another...

Re: Cat drinking lots...

Hi, As others have said, there are a number of conditions that can cause increased drinking. Given that your kitty seems to have a good appetite, and is overweight, it seems to me that diabetes could well be a possibility. I just want to reassure you that if it is diabetes then that is certainly tre...
