Re: which cat food???
If a cat is only used to one particular food and then it changes, yes it can cause problems, but all of mine are used to something different every night, and don't seem to suffer. Tha majority of my gang are also ex-strays, so Lord only knows what they've been used to when they arrive here!

Re: Kidney disease and diet
I've had several older cats with renal issues and none of them have much liked the prescription diets. I've tended to compromise with renal dry and a mixture of senior pouches/tins and the odd prescription pouch. I always feed a mixture of wet and dry anyway, and the dry versions of the prescription...

Re: which cat food???
My lot get a wide range, from supermarket brands to some of the posher brands (much of it donated to the rescue I foster for so I don't get a choice, though staples tend to be Butchers and Felix AGAIL), and all are older so a couple get prescription diets, but for all I do try to feed a wide range a...

Re: Scabby cat - flea allergy in multi cat house
Lilith, I can confirm that fleas do that, as do bedbugs. Apparently they sense the carbon dioxide from exhaled breath and that's what alerts them to live prey being present and stirs them from their slumbers!

Re: Scabby cat - flea allergy in multi cat house
Thanks guys. OK, I will assume we may have the odd colony of 'visitors' lurking in odd corners and blitz the house. OH does pest control, so we are better placed than most to deal with it - I know when he treats for bedbugs he tells me the little blighters can crawl under wallpaper and get into elec...

Scabby cat - flea allergy in multi cat house
When 15 year old Twinks came to live with us as a permanent foster cat she was very scabby around her back end, which the vet said was probably a flea allergy. We treated her with Broadline, and gradually over the first few weeks her skin seemed to get a lot better. However, last week she ventured d...

Re: I’m facing an unusual problem – Need advice
Biological washing detergent is very good for breaking down the odours in cat pee. Removing the scent does help to break the cycle so they don't keep trying to 'top up' what they left last time, then when you've removed traces of previous spraying you could try some of the deterrents mentioned. Good...

Re: Yowlee update mark 2
Awwwww - go Yowlee! :D My lot get on OK, and Daz definitely brings kills home for the others to share, but the current gang is nothing like as close as my original cat family. We used to have five cats who were three generations of the same family, with the matriarch Giddy in charge and often they u...

Re: Stress head !!
Cystophan/Cystease (they are very similar) might be worth a shot as they help deal with the stress as well as strengthening the bladder wall. I still give my Daz a preventative dose, though he's gone a couple of years with no cystitis isues now (paws crossed).

Re: Cat wanting to go out/behaviour
I have heard it said that some cats feel vulnerable going out through a catflap, and that it helps to put outdoor furniture and plants around the outside entrance/exit to provide cover so that they get a good chance to look and sniff around as they exit.

Re: Mental Stimulation for an Injured Cat Confined to a Crate?
Sorry, been away. No, Basil had a metal pin and external fixator, so no bandages involved. No sedatives either. I must admit sedatives scare me too, but my willingness to use them would depend on how freaked out my cat was without them - obviously I'd always go for the lesser of the two evils, and s...

Re: Newly diagnosed FIV cat
I have an older ex-stray FIV+ who lives a 'normal' indoor/outdoor life and mixes in with the other five cats in the household (all FIV-). We live in a rural area with few other cats around, so I don't tend to worry about him going out. TBH I'm not sure how I'd feel if there were more cats around, as...

I've not come across this with FIV cats, so suspect that it is behavioural as stress grooming is quite common with nervous felines. I hope he settles down soon. xx

Re: Twinks has her forever home
I know, poor Max. Such a beautiful cat, too. :( I'm hoping this really will be a good thing for Twinks as, as does sometimes happen with elderly owners, I suspect she's not had the best of care lately. She was very, very scabby all round her back end and near the base of her tail, which I suspect is...

Twinks has her forever home
I posted about fostering Twinks (Twinkle), who is about 15 and had been taken to be PTS as her elderly owner had asthma issues and the hospital would not allow her to go home to a house with a cat in it. The vet found her to be in perfect health so didn't want her PTS, so called the rescue. She's be...

Glad everyone survived the Weather, we did OK here too - a couple of roof tiles off and the garden is covered in bits of willow tree, but nothing worse, thankfully. Daz, Paddington and Merrick did go out, but only briefly - for the necessities and drink of their preferred muddy puddle water. I was s...
