You could also try bathing the eye with camaline tea. This was recomended to me and cleared the eye up straight away. Others are right thou if i was really concerned i would go to the vets to be on the safe side

You are doing the right thing trying to get to know the cat. Try playing with it using the lure type toys.
Most cats cant resist those or maybe one of the lasar ones.

My cats love them and drink far more water now.

If you locate some one know especially a friend or neighbour you can introduce them to your cats over time while your present . Then get them to pop in when your out so they get used to it.
