Cowards

I've been slowly introducing our two to the back garden. Today Whisper didn't even finish her cat food, she was at the French windows peering out. Why? There was a fledgling bird being very unsure of itself trying to get from floor to branch, managing, but slow. I couldn't let them out before it had...

Re: How do I retrieve my cat who has returned to our previous home?

Would the new owners consider putting out food (and being compensated) for the duration of this lockdown, just to ensure he is fed? However, there is a danger of him getting comfortable if you do that though....

Re: Thoughts on BBC news article - keep cats in doors during outbreak

I'm glad I brought this up - it's been very insightful. Glad the original has been updated now, but it's already being misquoted everywhere though, even 'Have I Got News For You' are getting their jokes wrong :(

Thoughts on BBC news article - keep cats in doors during outbreak

Hi all, I've just read this article from the BBC https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-52204534 Basically it says how the coronavirus can jump species, as we know (has done with those tigers at Bronx zoo), and humans who have the virus can infect their pets. As far as I'm aware to no ill ef...

Re: Corona ... someone had to start it!

I've not needed to use the vets yet, thank goodness, our two are still terrified of anything even vaguely surprising. My partner's doctors went very militant before everywhere else. No new appointments, everyone had to speak to the doctor over the phone before they were allowed to come in. If you ha...

Joii - opinions please

Hi all, I've insured our two with Animal Friends and to my absolute delight they've given free access to Joii Pet where by they do an app diagnostic and you can talk to a veterinary nurse over the internet rather than doing a stressful, expensive and possibly unnecessary vets trip. If I haven't got ...

Papa Cat is right - cats are conartists. We almost 'adopted' (which would have been 'stole') a cat who went to every house in the street pretending to be a stray!

Bit more info please. How old are they now? I'm assuming not neutered yet? What genders? Are you planning on having them as indoor or outdoor cats?

Re: Kittens fighting

Try engaging in play with them at the same time, so you are the focus of the 'rough' play, not each other, but they are having a positive experience together. By this I mean get either a rod toy or simply a long bit of string for them to chase and pounce on - it will get soak up a lot of their kitte...

Re: Behaviour reversal

Thanks Mollycat. We've come up with the plan for James to ignore him, unless he actively seeks his attention. As Whisper seems to be fine, James is to save all his fussin' for her. Hopefully this will also help with Winston realising there is no problem. In answer to you personality question, Winsto...

Behaviour reversal

Drat. We've had a set back with Winston. He's getting worse with my partner again. Treating him as someone to avoid. So James has been almost exclusively feeding them dry and I've been feeding them a small bit of wet every morning. We've just switched them to adult as they're 9 months old and going ...

Re: Introducing our 3 year old deaf cat to a 9 month female kitty

Hello and welcome to the forum :) I'm not the expert with introducing a second cat into a household, but other cat chatters are and I'm sure they'll answer soon. Phasing things in will have made a big difference. So hopefully this was either part of play or a simple 'I'm in charge' rather than outri...

No they don't care about her. I told them she'd moved in - we have a cat flap we're training our own cats to use and she was able to get in and out at will - and that she'd being scavenging for food and staying here overnight and they seem to think it's all hilarious. What charmers :x Mollycat has ...

Defeated by bread

So I put half a packet of bread on a stool. This is a stool Whisper usually uses to get to a spot she likes to sit in. The bread is on half the stool, not all of it, so plenty of room. There are multiple other options for jumping up to her spot without using the stool - my lap, a chair, etc. But Whi...

Thanks everyone! Very helpful :)
I'll introduce more of a mix then. I had a feeling part of the guzzling was because of boredom, but it could be natural feeling too. Adding wet will be good, but also switching to adult.

Winston

So, I come back from a long day at work at 6.30pm to be greeted by Whisper.....but no Winston. As its been so cold and we'd had a lot of trouble bonding with these two we hadn't let them out yet. After a lot of fruitless searching of the house, my partner finally realised that the upstairs window mi...

Healthy eating in almost fully grown kittens

Winston & Whisper are almost 9 months old and are quite chubby. We had decided we were going to bring them up primarily on dry food as this seemed healthier for teeth & kidneys, plus the added advantage of the end deposit smelling a bit less potent! The idea was to give them infrequent 'trea...

Re: Advice for adopting shelter cat

I think someone already said this this, but I'll say it again because it was true of mine - older cats can be very verbal. We used to joke that our Bakamono thought he was a wolf and would 'howl at the lightbulbs' at 3am. It's really hard, but this is what I did. Try ignoring her throughout the nigh...

Re: Veterinary Nursing Dissertation

One thing I didn't put down, but my partner reminded me of (he's filling the survey in now), is that one story goes that the 'M' mark on the tabby's forehead is because that's where Mohammad blessed them. Not a well known piece of cat lore.

Re: Veterinary Nursing Dissertation

All filled in :) I'm afraid I had a bit of a problem with choosing the right picture too. Obviously personality tends to be exhibited in how they lark around, so you can't do that in text, so I had to go by visuals when I would normally have chosen by personality. I would have liked the black cat, b...

Re: How to bring our stray cat out of her shell?

She looks beautiful, and quite content to be picked up - does this mean she's not feral and was originally brought up with humans? I've never rescued direct from the streets, just adopted. Do you have an enclosed garden, where she can't escape? If so, try some play therapy outside maybe? (Bring a th...

Re: How to bring our stray cat out of her shell?

Maybe her soul is with the outdoors? Or perhaps I've read too much James Herriot :) The rescuers we got our previous cats from had rescued a huge cat colony, too many too all rehome. They ended up neutering all then rereleasing many, just feeding them, providing outdoor shelter and keeping an eye on...

Re: My cat keeps scratching the kids

First thing - is she neutered....even at this late stage it might be a factor. It doesn't change the personality you love, but does calm the hormones that are sending her scatty. Either way, clearly something has changed to alter / worsen her behaviour: Could be illness - pain could be causing her t...

Neutered male still showing interest?

Our 8 month old kitten, Winston, is posing a bit of a problem as he 'appears' to be attempting to be trying to hump Whisper (same age, also neutered). Both were neutered 13 weeks ago just before he reached his sexual maturity. What I've read online is contradictory and confusing. I know we'll get no...

Re: Cat's strange habit

But now I'm thinking about what if her aggression is caused by a sick play of hormones? :? She's not neutered... If you can persuade your folks, get her neutered. You don't want unnecessary kittens, plus females on heat are really, really frustrated. I think any erratic behaviour can be looked at w...
