Feline asthma

Dear All Does anyone on this forum have experience of feline asthma? Our youngest JJ has recently had a couple of nasty coughing fits and breathes really quickly when awake. He's seen the vet tonight who says his breathing is rapid and wheezy. She feels he has asthma. I'm gutted as he's so lively an...

Re: Cat possibly swallowed string

JJ is still flying round the house, eating and toileting just fine so all seems ok. Him and H are now eating together and sleeping on our bed at night. JJ has also started sitting on my lap. I'm amazed at just how quickly he's settled in. Camden Girl - I'm so sorry to read you lost Lady P. I wish yo...

Re: Cat possibly swallowed string

You have a good memory! Yes there was a problem with H as the pets name has to have at least 2 letters. He is registered as Mr H. JJ is actually registered as Jay Jay. JJ has been thoroughly checked by Steve and I've been told to keep a close eye on him for the next week, but that by now if there we...

He's not had an ultrasound as yet. We're seeing Steve at 4.00 today as a follow up. I'll report back after that.

Boris

It's taken a while to have enough courage to come on here and dedicate a small piece to our very special lad Boris who passed away on 31st December. Boris in garden.jpg Boris was a Hillgrove Farm cat and was claimed by the RSPCA in 1999 when the farm closed after many protests by Animal Rights campa...

Re: Cat possibly swallowed string

Yes it could be possible that he didn't swallow it but we've turned the house upside down and can't find it anywhere thus we are assuming he's eaten it. The knot off the end was chewed and laid on the landing. That was the only evidence we could find of the crime.

Re: Cat possibly swallowed string

Day 3 after the string swallowing and JJ is still very lively and being his normal self. I've managed to get 3 doses per day down him of liquid paraffin. He's pooped a couple of times but no sign of any string as yet. Does anyone know how long it could take to reappear? I'm still not sleeping with t...

Re: Cat possibly swallowed string

Thanks for your replies. Hi Ria - Yes we picked up JJ last Tuesday from Cats Protection in Crewe. He is 9 months old but still very lively and so affectionate. He's already made friends with H and last night they both slept together on our bed so that I could keep an eye on JJ. There wasn't a peep o...

Cat possibly swallowed string

Hello We have adopted a 9 month old lad who joined us just 5 days ago. Tonight I discovered the knot off the end of a piece of string from our bathroom blind on the landing. Is was wet and chewed. I'm not sure how he got to it but it looks like there's a bit of about 2 ft missing. It's like cord so ...

It's sad news I'm afraid. Boris was in complete kidney failure and has been put to sleep.

He had almost 19 years with us and we will always think of him with a smile.

Re: CRF Semintra & sickness.

After being very sick again overnight Boris is at the vets on a drip ready for an ultrasound later today. Lovely young vet saw us this morning. She feels he has a blocked gut which is more than likely due to cancer. If it is then we won't be bringing our boy home....

Re: CRF Semintra & sickness.

Hi No bloods have been done this time as tested only a few weeks ago and at that point they were spot on. Boris has been ill again this morning and I'm now waiting for Steve to call me. I think Steve decided against antibiotics as the sickness has been only once a week until now which is more indica...

Re: CRF Semintra & sickness.

Boris saw Steve yesterday. It looks like he has either an infection or something sinister in his gut. Steve gave him a steroid injection which should last 5 day which he hopes will settle things down. We've been given anti sickness pills and are to continue with his thyroid and semintra meds too. On...

CRF Semintra & sickness.

Hi all. Not been on here for a while as everything has been grand with my 2 boys. Boris has CRF & has been on Semintra for quite a while. In the last month he's started being really sick once a week. All that comes up though is lots of clear fluid. Otherwise he's feeding really well on wet and d...

Both cats have fleas.... HELP!!

It's been a while since I last posted on here because both my boys have been in tip top health, however that all changed a couple of weeks ago when we noticed Boris over grooming. He has fleas! Then H started acting strangely, jumping around & howling in the house. Yup he too has fleas. We've no...

Thanks everyone for your replies and great to hear about your furry ones too. The last 3 Christmases we've ended up at the vet with Boris for var...

Boris update

Dear Cat Chat gang I haven't been on this forum for quite a while, which means we've had quite a long period of time without any medical worries with my 2 boys. The biggest achievement this year has been that finally after 7 years with us H has stopped sneezing and showing signs of Herpes cat flu vi...

Re: Anyone got cats over 14 years old?

My lad Boris is 17. He had both thyroid glands removed by the time he was 13 and has been on thyroxin ever since. He's had all but 3 teeth removed, has arthritis, kidney issues & is completely deaf. Recently he's developed an unusual heart rhythm which is linked to his thyroid issues. Despite al...

Sending all our best wishes to you and Pete.

We trim Boris's claws because they do get very long. He has no teeth to trim them himself these days.
His are very thick too? How do we remove the old sheaths to relieve this too?

Boris has kidney issues & won't touch renal food on its own. However we're having great success in blending a pouch of renal & a pouch of Felix Senior together. We also hide a little renal dry into the mix. Currently he wolfs half the mix in the morning & half for his tea. The last coupl...

Boris has gone thinner along his spine & back end in the last year. His face is thinner too. He's 17 next Saturday so it's not unexpected really. He spends all day asleep only waking for food or toilet duties. He's happy though :-)

Re: How can I prevent my cat from going to the toilet inside

I have to agree. Please get your little one a litter tray. I have 2 cats & 2 trays in case they both are in need of relief. We use wood pellet litter which smells nice & is dead easy to clean. I have to say any smells which do eminate are no worse than the smells produced by my man after a g...

Re: Boris has an irregular heartbeat...

It's been a good couple of weeks for Boris. Since I last posted we've dropped his thyroxin dose a little to settle him down as he was quite anxious & fidgety. We've also added a little dry food back into his diet as his renal wet was constipating him. (We took him off dry as it was that that was...

Re: Boris has an irregular heartbeat...

Hi Anna Yes it was big relief to have such a positive outcome from yesterdays consultation. We're on a high dose of Leventa for Boris's thyroid and Steve really doesn't wish to push that any more at this stage. I will try and source the low iodine food to see if that will make a difference. Right no...
