Re: Hello (Old member with sad and happy news)

Hello there and welcome back! Sorry to hear about Elsa. We lost out old boy, Tommy to CKD at the end of last year (still miss him every day) but he was well into his teens and it is a bit easier to accept, 5 is way too young, so sad. Congratulations on the new addition to your family, that's lovely...

Hello (Old member with sad and happy news)

I used to post on here a while back but slowly stopped posting and just browsed. Thought I would come back and say hello to old members who may remember me. Some of you may remember that I had 2 black cats, Elsa and Elise and a Siamese called Elsworth. Unfortunately we lost Elsa a few weeks ago due ...

Re: Cat advice needed!

Hi, I'm thinking about getting a cat with my partner and I was looking for some advice. We've never had any cats before - only dogs and smaller animals - so apologies if these are silly questions! As we both work 9-5 during the week, what would be a good routine for letting the cat in and out? Woul...

Re: 3 cat household needs behavioral advise

One of my cats went through this when I stopped 24/7 access and just let her out during the day. After trying multiple solutions I ended up giving her back the lifestyle she was used to and it completely stopped. Even with the new kitten she has not resorted to weeing in the house other than in litt...

Re: New kitten

Make sure you give your older cat space away from the kitten. If she will take them, feed a load of treats at your cat whilst feeding the kitten at the same time. I have found it has helped them to be better with each other when there are no treats although they are all better when treats are availa...

Re: Buying a cat from a breeder

Hi ooogers we were the same as you we wanted a siamese for the personality and I spent a long time researching, something like Hazels post would have been sooo useful. HunnyBunny everyone is entitled to their own choices and opinions please do not be rude to those who dont agree with you. Exactly. ...

Re: Buying a cat from a breeder

I had people try and make me feel guilty because I didnt rescue a cat but at the end of the day I didnt put those cats there. If they do not fit my lifestyle then I should not be obliged to take one on just because some people cant be bothered to keep their cats or get them spayed or neutered. Blim...

Re: Buying a cat from a breeder

I agree with this. Good breeders should not be punished, buying a pedigree does not mean that it means one less home for a rescue cat. When the time came for me to add another cat into our lives, my husband and I decided on Bengals. I did so much research and contacted many breeders but so many were...

Re: Cat nail Caps

I wouldn't want to use them with my cats, they might damage stuff or scratch me but that is part of cat ownership. I have recently clipped Elsworth's claws and it has made a difference to the sharpness so as I have no intention of letting him roam I will continue to clip them.

Re: food quantities 11 month old siamese

With moggies he's a bit of a pain, he gets on their nerves being constantly in their face and energetic, Denzel loves winding up other cats and they all look at him bored. I'm hoping that if its another Siamese they'll annoy each other equally and then give up, but that might be wishful thinking. S...

Re: food quantities 11 month old siamese

When he was a few months old we had problems with him eating too fast but not for at least 6 months. He does however eat the high meat wet food so fast that when he sits on my lap after he burps! Not very regal. So classic would be old style? I love the style of Siamese. Did you see the secret life...

Re: food quantities 11 month old siamese

Hello, just thought I'd add what Mika eats to the thread - he has the best part of a wet sachet morning & early evening (he's supposed to share with Jess but Jess usually just licks the gravy off his half and Mika eats up the chunks). He also usually gets a small bowl of Butchers classic later ...

Re: food quantities 11 month old siamese

Denzel would probably be classed as Classic thinking about it. A lot of the Meezers at shows are modern - extreme. Will your new baby be just like him? I would love another one so Elsworth would have a playmate but it is unlikely. I would happily have a house full of them although it could be a bit ...

Re: food quantities 11 month old siamese

I hadn't considered taking up the dry food, he has a habit of eating little and often rather than scoffing it all down in one go. I thought he might be and looking at your very gorgeous kitty Elsworth he must be as he's not a pointy as yours. Elsworth came to be as a nibbler when he was used to hav...

Re: food quantities 11 month old siamese

Have you tried picking up the dry and switching him onto meal times? It has a tendency to make them less fussy as they are hungry when food is offered. I suspect when Elsworth is fully grown he will eat around 300-400g high meat content food (Macs, Ropocat, Animonda Carny and Smilla) because he is a...

They will be fine. The last time my two went in a cattery Elsa went and hid and Elise started climbing up the mesh. They went off their food for a day or so but were soon back to normal. Your cats are settling in just fine.

Eek how exciting!! What colour is Denzel? My blue tabby Meezer is now nearly 5 months! They really are unique cats, I will never be without one now! Have they been born yet? Do you want a boy or girl? Just offer to pay another pet deposit, offer to get the carpets cleaned when you leave and you sho...

Hi Lyn Yes same parents so he will have a little brother or sister. And check our current landlord says yes to kitty no. 2 but I don't see why not we've had a n...

Re: Cat Proofing the Garden

We cat proofed our garden really simply just by putting up brackets on every fence posts bent at a right angle and then covered in netting. It kept Elsa in no problems but would not keep Elise in, especially as we had a pergola. We put a huge square of netting about 2 foot square but she still manag...

Update as promised

It has been a few weeks now since I posted but I did promise to come back and update you. Last time I posted I was having issues with Elise weeing in the house when she was shut in. Unfortunately the only way to resolve this was to give her 24/7 access to the outside. Since then we have had no incid...

Re: Operation night time lockdown is a failure

Once again a kitten is not a possession. My cats are very well loved and very well taken care of despite being allowed outside! Elise has now been allowed out whenever she chooses which seems to be making her happy. Elsa is staying in at night and again she seems happy. I know many of you don't appr...

Re: Operation night time lockdown is a failure

I am not saying do not get another cat ever, or that there are never circumstances in which rehoming a cat is the best option for the animals involved. But I don't understand why you seem so set on getting a kitten post haste, rather than taking a bit more time to try to resolve Elise's behavioural...

Re: Operation night time lockdown is a failure

I completely appreciate your input and did actually ask my husband (who would not be going through with it if he thought it was a bad idea) and he is also of the opinion that Elise is weeing because she wants out. Some breeders are just in it for the money but there are some who are genuinely invest...

Re: Operation night time lockdown is a failure

1. Of course breeders have a vested interest but they will also refuse to sell to someone who isn't right for their cat. A few of them do not even have kittens to sell yet are taking the time out to advise me. 2. We have one problem and we are pretty certain we know what is causing it and how to fix...

Of course its not. I am already very attached to him and I haven't even met him. Given that you haven't met him, and you're getting him from a breeder who no doubt will have other litters later on, would it not make sense to put getting cat nr 3 on hold for a bit until you sort out the situation wi...

Re: Operation night time lockdown is a failure

I don't think bringing in a cat will cause issues, the issue is them wanting to go out when they want. I would prefer them not to but I have come to realise that I can't control them.

If things don't go well with the new cat then he goes back to the breeder.

No I went through that and had an even worse reaction than I am having now. Wailing, pacing, frustration leading to fighting with each other, constant escape attempts etc. If it was then I would be so happy!
