Re: Panacur liquid - any alternatives for Giardiasis?

Thank you, FJM, I’m going to talk to the vet about the granules when they open tomorrow. I wouldn’t have minded the pills - I can pill several of the cats (not all the ex-ferals) but the liquid they just spit and fight, and it’s not as fast a process as pilling… plus they can taste the disgustingnes...

Panacur liquid - any alternatives for Giardiasis?

Hi everyone, I have 7 cats and one of them was losing weight and had diarrhoea (Sophie). Her fur also becoming matted and the vet suggested HyperT. We had full range of bloods done and the only thing was high neutrophils, suggesting an infection. A test of the poop has identified Giardia - everythin...

Re: Watery right eye from few months

Hi - I thought I would just add my experience. I have a young boy who gets regular problems with discomfort in his left eye, which he then scratches and causes an ulcer and infections. After 4 months on antibiotic drops and negative tests for bacterial (mind you he had drops in his eyes) infections,...

Re: Cat's strange habit

You are making a very good decision to get your cat neutered. I hope they are also chipped - it's always possible for an unneutered cat to be lured away from home by the scent of a female and may, or may not, find his way home. There is also the issue with mating related fighting (which is a whole l...

Re: Help cats voice changed

I do hope the antibiotics make an improvement for poor Romeo. In the meantime you just need to keep him as comfortable as possible. It is an extraordinary sound and if it is a tumour there really won't be anything you can do - so don't feel guilty that you can't afford the MRi. If the painkillers he...

Re: Conjunctivitis - Single infected eye - just won't clear up

Hi Lilynmitz! Well, today we've got a clean bill of health for the eye - it has healed! I've also got a quote for the tooth removal, but we are going to wait a week or two to allow him to get back into socialisation. He's been in his room since the 24th July. All clear for all the 'nasties' and the ...

Re: Conjunctivitis - Single infected eye - just won't clear up

Thank you for your wise words, Lilynmitz. We are continuing with the treatment and the eye 'fingers crossed' is nearly better. There is still a slight abrasion from the last time he scratched it (whilst wearing a COS that was too floppy). He has tested clear for Feline Herpesvirus-1 (FHV-1), Feline ...

Re: My cat still hates my new kitten

Hi CatLady29 - it must be very distressing for you, seeing Felix so angry and reacting this way. I presume he's had a health check recently? It's just possible that there's some underlying issue (like teeth problems) that is making him less tolerant and little Bells is an obvious target to take it o...

Re: New Kitten - eye problem?

As it's a friend who has the kittens, I'd definitely ask for a vet check for this little one - and for the others too. Kittens can pick up viruses from their mothers and some eye problems are very contagious. I hope it's something easily treatable and you can take your little one home when she's rea...

Re: My ragdoll is in the litter tray

Is she from rescue? Some cats from rescue have a habit of sitting in their box. One of mine ROLLS in clean litter - it obviously gives her great joy! She then shakes herself and sprays litter everywhere  I wouldn't worry unless this is new behaviour and she is doing it a lot, or sleeping in the...

What a lovely reply from Mollycat. If you feel you could help this lovely cat have a chance of a meaningful, enjoyable life - then patience and love are the main ingredients. I trapped a roaming unneutered Tom in February 2017 who had been coming for food as dusk for three months but still would not...

Re: FIV POSITIVE CAT VOMITING

That’s really good news - as we suspected! Yes, I think the careful diet is a really good idea. I had 9 cats at the time, so it was very hard to try and ensure that my boy did not eat other cat’s food (especially as he loved it) and I didn’t know he was FIV+ until he developed pancreatitis. As you k...

Re: FIV POSITIVE CAT VOMITING

I agree with Moobag that's it's more likely to be rich food than FIV if everything else is fine. My FIV+ boy had intractable gut problems from the day I took him in - he couldn't digest his food properly and his poops were just slush. The only times he threw up were if the food was too rich, or too ...

Conjunctivitis - Single infected eye - just won't clear up

Hi everyone. I have the MOST adorable stray Tabby boy I rescued, totally terrified of humans and very shy but gentle, who I bonded with after intensive work. His name is Max, and he is as gentle as a lamb with me; shakes like a leaf at the vets but never hisses or scratches. I've had him home 1yr an...

Re: For those who feed their cats Felix, has anyone noticed that their cats have stopped eating it?

No, no problem - although they get fussy if they have the same flavours all the time, so I change them every now and then. I have to admit they are spoilt and love the sprinkles on top that come with Felix Crunchies. They also love the Felix Sensations Sauces variety, so sometimes I share a sachet b...

Hi there - coming in late to this conversation, I'm afraid - but your two seem really delightful and I personally wouldn't have any qualms about putting them together in a cattery if you were away - from what I've heard cats seem to 'hunker down' when they are in an unfamiliar environment, and this ...

What beautiful babies! Although they were born feral, at 4 months I don't think they are too old to become really domesticated. We took in a feral kitten who was deserted by her mum aged 4 and a half months. She was very, very timid but after time in a small bonding room she became really attached t...

Re: Pancreatitis - Recovery, Drugs, behaviour and diet

I am heartbroken to say that we had to have Charlie put to sleep this afternoon. After nearly three weeks he was not coping with the infection, which they suspected was more widespread than the pancreas alone. What we didn’t know at the outset was that he had FIV. After nearly three weeks of infecti...

Thanks, fjm - you're quite right, I need to give him time to recover. I'm just so worried about him. I've given him another antibiotic with a little more food, mixed with some w...

Thank you, Kay - sorry you lost your boy. :( I will give it a couple of days to see if he gets used to it. The vet said we couldn't use metacam because of the diarrhoea, as it's a contraindication. Maybe if that is better he will review the tramadol next week. x

Pancreatitis - Recovery, Drugs, behaviour and diet

My lovely Charlie, only about 4 years old, was recently admitted to vet hospital with a high fever and the runs. He's always had a delicate stomach since I found him as an unneutered stray a year and a half ago. He was a mess - filthy, scratched and bleeding, food obsessive (so easy to catch) and ve...

So glad the insurance will pay and you've found a good vet - the attitude of your original vet is dreadful! Poor little lady - but she will be fine when she's been sorted. This should not have happened.

Re: 1yr old spayed female attracting male cats!!!

What a business for you! The suitors/Toms in your garden are not necessarily local or from down your road - in fact very few of them are likely to be from your local neighbourhood. Unneutered males will travel for miles after a female in heat - and not always be able to find their way home. They wil...

Re: Introducing Semi-feral Cat into existing cat household

I've never introduced a new cat to the household (if I wanted to adopt them, that is) without starting them out in a bonding room. The advantage of this is that the little one can get used to being in close proximity to you and you can use scent swapping, etc. to let the members of the household fam...

Great advice! Get in touch with Cat's Protection (CP) and ask around at your local vets - I'm in Enfield and all my strays have been neutered for free as the vets have an agreement with CP as part of a scheme to neuter stray cats. You have basically been feeding a stray for the last few years. Get h...

Re: 1yr old spayed female attracting male cats!!!

Oh my word - I think there can be no doubt she was not properly spayed - it may not have been anyone's fault if she has some sort of atypical 'arrangement' - but she needs to get to that vet and be sorted out as soon as possible. There is no doubt she is in heat. I've known an unneutered male attack...
