Pippin - stolen elderly dog
Hi Everyone, I've not been on for a while but wanted to share the details of this stolen dog. He belongs to a neighbour of a friend of mine and they are absolutely distraught. He was stolen from their house on 15 March and the owners are trying to get the message spread as widely as possible. He's 1...

Re: nellie may have cancer but it makes no sense to me
Have just seen your post - you must have been writing it at the same time I was. :) It's totally understandable that you were freaking out when the vet mentioned cancer and I think you're making the right decision about getting a second opinion. Out of interest, have you treated the environment for ...

Re: nellie may have cancer but it makes no sense to me
I agree with Jacks and Kay. I'm not a vet and you should always take the advice of a qualified vet, but I would get a second opinion. Although not specialists, many vets have a special interest in different things, so it may be worth ringing round the vets in your area to see if there is anyone with...

Re: Any advice on ovarian remnant syndrome?
Years ago we had a cat come into rescue that was already spayed but kept showing signs of being on heat. Our own vet said there was probably a bit of ovarian tissue left and that she would have to be opened up to check. It was quite a long time ago so maybe practises have changed, but he never menti...

Missing whiskers
Hi, not been on for quite a while but I was wondering if anyone has come across this before. I have a 9 week old kitten (Harry) that came in as an orphan at 1 day old and have been hand rearing him. We've had a few rough moments with him but he is now healthy and racing round like a lunatic. I notic...

Re: Usain Bolt!
This time last year Pebbles started Metacam for arthritis to her front legs as she was limping badly and had been very quiet and withdrawn. She had exactly the same reaction and went back to being the maniac she used to be - dashing round and announcing that she had come into the room by literally s...

Re: Spayed cat on heat
If even the tiniest bit of ovarian tissue has been left inside it can have this effect. A few years ago we had a female cat at one of our foster homes that had been spayed a few days before she came into us. Our fosterer found a small queue of toms outside the cat chalet one morning trying to get in...

Re: So my girl is actually a boy...
It's surprising how often this happens. We run a subsidised neutering scheme and we quite often have to break the news when taking back someone's cat that their lovely little girl with the pink collar is actually a boy. We've also just had come in for rehoming two really butch looking male cats call...

Re: Lump under right arm/leg
Hi, I'm so sorry to knock you down when I built you up but now that you've mentioned the lump is on the mammary gland it throws some light onto why your vet seems to have made up her mind that the growth will be malignant. I have no experience of this type of cancer, either with my own cats or the r...

Re: Lump under right arm/leg
Hi, I would definitely go to another vet as this one seems to have made her mind up without all of the facts. Yes, it might be cancerous but without removing it or doing a biopsy the vet cannot say for certain so I would insist on them doing it. Easy for me to say but try not to worry too much as I'...

Re: cats and TB
Quite agree. These scare stories are so irresponsible. I understand health problems have to be highlighted but when this sort of thing gets reported, it gets blown completely out of proportion and people panic. I remember a few years ago Toxoplasmosis being caught from cats was in the papers and so ...

Re: Kitten covered in cradle cap
Hi, I would definitely take him to the vets for a check over as soon as you can. What you describe as cradle cap could be something else such as a flea allergy or a mite problem. If he is only six weeks old, very skinny and was covered in fleas he could also be anaemic. Well done for rescuing this p...

Re: Milk?
Hi, it's best not to give cows milk to cats as not only is it fattening but a lot of cats are allergic to it. If a cat is allergic to it, it can cause skin problems and diarrhoea. Also, watered down cows milk is actually worse - something to do with how it is digested. As a treat, lactose-free milk ...

Computer issues caused by furry things
Just thought I'd let people know what to do if, after leaving your laptop on the settee, you come back to find that everything on the screen is sideways!! Tip 1: Remove the furry thing from the area that has obviously been walking all over the keyboard. Tip 2: No need to spend an hour with your head...

I know what you mean Sarcazm. Jasper is an ex-feral and although he is surprisingly affectionate he will only let me fuss him when he comes and sits on my knee. He will potter round the house when I'm sitting down but if I get up he flies back upstairs to his safe haven under my bed. More than once ...

Re: Operation night time lockdown is a failure
Hi, it can be very difficult sorting out this sort of problem. I don't know what the history of this is as I've only just caught up with this thread. Until you have managed to sort this out I would think twice about adding another cat to the equation as there is a very strong possibility that it wil...

I got the equivalent of a Furminator from the VetUK website. Much cheaper, even if paying £1.99 postage, and it works just as well as the original thing. Looks exactly the same as well.

Do you know why the vet didn't remove both sides if the other one was also enlarged. Bigger operation but we've had to have it done several times and the cats have always been okay.

Re: Cleaning up scratch wounds
As the scratch is just below the eye, check that the eyeball itself has not been scratched. Not always easy to see but if you notice Molly pawing at the eye or it starts to water, a trip to the vet might be wise just to make sure everything is okay. You've probably nothing to worry about as, even if...

Her name is Pebbles and she is nearly 14 years old, although how she dashes about sometimes you would think she was still a kitten. She was quite poorly last year and had nearly every test under the sun - two scans, one on her heart and one her abdomen, x-rays and numerous blood tests. Fortunately, ...

Re: Cat just been neutered, lump now found?
It's not usual for a lump to develop after a straightforward neutering operation so it would probably be best to get the vet to check it. So long as your cat seems okay, does not seem to be in any pain and is eating okay it should be okay to leave it until Friday, but if you are concerned you could ...
