The Greek Cat, Minnie...

Some of you might remember a couple of years ago a lovely story we were all a party to involving a little stray cat who was called Minnie with some neurological/spinal issues who had been found by a lovely lady, who unfortunately couldn't keep her and who couldn't find anyone else who wanted her. W...

Re: Lost as to where to go next!

I agree with Crewella when she says that plenty of cats live in the same home who don't particularly like each other - I myself have 13 cats in my small home at the moment, the majority of whom have rejected the usual "introductions" and have chosen to muck in with all the others straight...

Re: BUTCHERS CLASSIC TINNED FOOD ? HOW GOOD IS IT PLEASE ?

No Julie, we don't get Butcher's Classic. There are a couple of really old brands (i.e. I remember them from my younger days) which are probably similar, but they aren't easy to get anymore - sometimes you can buy them at rural supply stores/feed stores, which isn't very convenient. Don't get me sta...

Re: BUTCHERS CLASSIC TINNED FOOD ? HOW GOOD IS IT PLEASE ?

My previous vet gave me a whole spiel about how I should feed my cats exclusively on Royal Canin or Science Diet. I let him go on then told him that NO WAY was I going to give my cats the same thing day after day - I wouldn't do it to myself, so I certainly wouldn't to it to them - plus in the wild ...

Re: Is my baby girl a Bombay?

I've noticed only recently that my vet stocks DNA kits - not sure if for dogs, cats or both - but I wonder if finding out a cat's background might be as easy as buying an over-the-counter test? She certainly could be part Bombay, or British Shorthair perhaps, or even Burmese - I believe Bombays have...

Just caught up with this thread. I've had a female with mild cystitis which cleared quickly, so no real experience, thank heavens. All I can do is send you all my good thoughts for Midnight and wishes for his recovery and return home. I can imagine exactly how you must be feeling. As far as your al...

Re: Cat sneezing

Don't be too concerned if your cat is otherwise well and there's no discharge, eyes are OK etc. My little Poppy often sneezes but recently I noticed her breathing seemed heavier and she was a bit "snuffly" with it and her nostrils were wetter than usual - she had a very mild URTI which wa...

Re: Help - how can we get rid of the litter box?

I agree with the others. Keep a litter box in the house for now. Years ago two of my girls had indoor litter boxes and a big outdoor litter box which I kept on my balcony, which they preferred as it had soil in it and not litter. They would hang on for ages in order to be able to use the soil rathe...

Re: Is it wrong to keep a cat indoors?

In an ideal world for cats, they would all have access to both indoors and outdoors. It's far from an ideal world unfortunately - just too many hazards. When my Ruby was dying, we spent a couple of hours on her last day at home out in the yard, and she was SO happy with the sun on her face and the ...

Re: Cat i adopted after it was abandoned

There is a long lasting version of Capstar called Comfortis here in Australia, also available in the UK under a different name, which I can't remember. Kills all adult fleas within an hour an continues to do so for about a month, therefore also killing any other fleas the cat may pick up, or any whi...

Re: Need some advice please

This is a bit of a strange one? Could the cat be upset by changes around the house? - perhaps she senses something amiss from your preparations for going away, the pet sitter visiting etc? May be another litter bowl in the area messed upon might help.

Is it possible she is just happier to be indoors in the cold weather? One of mine spent all her time bar litter box time living on my hot water heater or my stove, until I was able to give her outdoor time, at which point she wants out all the time. Your puss seems to be the opposite!

Re: Did the cat take a lick?

Your cat probably did take a lick of the nuts - especially if they were salted. I sometimes share my plate with a cat or two. Hell, I live with them, sleep with them, clean up after them - I figure they get just as many of my germs as I get of theirs. A human bite can cause just as much damage as a...

Do some cats just dribble.....?

I have a foster cat atm, originally named Pilchard (apparently a character from Bob the Builder?), but who I have renamed Prickles. Apparently her previous owner told me that she dribbles, but I didn't remember this and took her to the vet. She is probably about 7 years old, her teeth are good and ...

Re: Which grooming tool for tangles/knots?

To be honest I don't know if there is actually a conditioner spray for cats. On the odd occasion I've used this method I've just put about 10mL of a children's hair conditioner (may be Johnson's? I'm not sure) in a spray bottle and then about two-thirds filled the bottle with warm water. I think th...

Re: Which grooming tool for tangles/knots?

What a handsome cat! I suspect a Furminator might be a bit rough for tummy knots, as it tends to pull much of the fur out by the roots. If I cat a cat that didn't mind being brushed/combed, I think I'd probably use a fairly wide-toothed comb and perhaps some spray-on conditioner. My Raggy girl Summ...

Re: Should we keep diagnosing?

I can understand your dilemma to some extent. I have a cat who at one stage was thought to have leukaemia - I knew that the tests to diagnose her illness would probably kill her because she is so timid and stresses easily, so I chose not to get a diagnosis, but just do serial blood tests for 3 mont...

CARDBOARD SCRATCHERS

I have often thought that the scratchers made out of compressed corrugated cardboard seem to be a wonderful idea, but didn't feel inclined to pay the general asking price without the opportunity to test them out. I was able to buy a small one (about 18 x 10") for only $5 about a month ago and ...

Re: Am I right to break up caat fights?

As you know Mark I way out of touch - has Dom only recently been neutered? As an adult cat (I'm assuming he's an adult) it may take weeks for his hormones to stabilise, but from what I've read this type of behaviour can also be a habit. I suppose it all depends on how long your can give him to see ...
