Re: Spaying

When Pud & Tat were spayed 19 years ago they were a bit quieter for a few days but generally it was business as usual. I use the normal dusty clay type litter. The only issue was Pud picking out her stitches and when she had finished went and did Tat's.☺

Re: Is it the end of the journey

So we let little Tat go this morning. Last night when I got in from work she was actually pleased to see me. She stumbled to me and had a big purr and wanted a fuss and cuddle. She showed some interest in food and water but didn't take any. I continued to syringe small amounts of water into he...

Re: Is it the end of the journey

The spark has gone from her. She can only now manage a slight purr when I fuss her. We have an appointment first thing tomorrow when she will be pts. I hope she doesn't start to suffer too much overnight or we will have to use the emergency vet service. She has always been my baby girl this is going...

Is it the end of the journey

My 20 year old girl Tat looks to have taken a turn for the worst. She has stopped eating and drinking and looks very much like her sister did earlier in the year when she passed away from kidney failure. Tat has hyperthyroidism which had started to affect her kidney function. We went to the vet yest...

Re: CKD & hyperthyroidism

Hi Crewella, the avatar is of Gina our 3 yr old. Unfortunately Tat doesn't take a good photo that often as she has a blown pupil so whenever she is in bright enough light to take a photo without flash she is squinting or eyes closed as it is too bright for her.

Re: CKD & hyperthyroidism

Hi Tess, Tat is not FIV+. Her main problem is that she has always been a fussy eater. After the first hyperthyroidism event her digestive system suffered and now has what is classed as Irritable Bowel disease/syndrome. So in the recent development it's a bodily battle between wanting to eat loads be...

Re: CKD & hyperthyroidism-update

So it has been a few weeks now since Tat started her meds. I took the advice often shared on here about starting on a low dose with regards to the thyroid medicine. The gel comes in a syringe and the prescribed dose was 0.1ml, but we started at 0.05ml. I am so glad we did as after a few days Tat had...

Re: so worried - sudden-onset kidney problems

Sorry to hear about Diesel. There are 4 levels of kidney disease which are determined by blood and urine analysis. When my girl Pudding was diagnosed she was already at level 3. She was 19 and had other ailments which masked the symptoms. She had severe muscle weakness at this stage. I got the impre...

Re: CKD & hyperthyroidism

Thanks for the replies / support. Tat has already had both thyroid glands removed, 2 & 5 ish years ago. She never could tolerate the pills so the second time she used the ear ointment to bring the condition under control before the operation. She has gastrointestinal trouble now as it is, so try...

CKD & hyperthyroidism

Hello everyone

My poor old girl (Tat, 20 yrs old) has just been diagnosed with early CKD. :(
She has been prescribed Semintra.
Her last few T4 tests have also been high so she is back on Methimazole (ear ointment).

Feeling down as we lost her sister suddenly to kidney failure a few months ago.

Re: Help with waking up very early every day

I really feel for you, over the years I have been stressed by this. I currently work shifts which start or end at 5am so this is when they get fed. Unfortunately they then expect this on my days off. Which isn't too bad because I can go back to bed and don't have to worry about what time I finally g...

Re: Elderly cat weight loss.

Thanks for the reassurances. Having just lost her sister I just don't want to miss anything. I have already started buying grain free dried food and I will have a look at the various specialist wet foods. She already has B12 injections and usually improves afterwards but I will ask about Folate test...

Elderly cat weight loss.

Hello everyone. Tat will be 20 years old this summer. She has had both thyroid glands removed and initially took steroids everyday to maintain her appetite. Over time she took less and less and it's a few months since she last took some. She also used to take zantac regularly but currently takes it ...

Re: My 3 legged cat

Sorry to hear about your girl but glad that she is doing well. I too have a rear left amputee. She had her leg removed at the hip when she was very young, now 2.5 years old. You don't say how old your cat is but one thing maybe troubling her is confusion and frustration if she is still subconsciousl...

Re: Has my cat had a stroke? Now Renal Failure.

We have taken Pudding to the out of hours vet. They want £800 for overnight care. She is not insured so we are just leaving her with them for treatment during the day (£450). That way at least she will be a bit more comfortable overnight when she is back with us. The consensus is that she will not r...

Re: Has my cat had a stroke? Now Renal Failure.

The vet doesn't have an overnight or Sunday service. They haven't offered or suggested anywhere else. Tonight she is a little stronger on her legs and not as restless or upset. They tested for potassium but surprisingly it came back normal. One of the vets thought that it may have been Conn's syndro...

Pudding is back at the vets all day for more fluids. She has improved but had an uncomfortable night and was very restless. She had a little bit of watered down food from a syringe. She also managed to have a wee. She kept trying to walk around but didn't have enough strength to keep herself up so w...

Re: Has my cat had a stroke?

We have brought her home for the night. There has only been a slight improvement so she is going back in tomorrow for more fluids. She has level 3 kidney failure (scale of 1 =mild, 4=worst). We are hoping for better news tomorrow but know this may not happen.

Thanks for your kind thoughts.

Re: Has my cat had a stroke?

She continued to deteriorate yesterday and overnight. She Is currently with the vet for fluids and testing. The prognosis doesn't look good to be honest. My 19 year old girl Pudding takes fortekor for a heart murmur, felimazole for hyperthyroidism and loxicom for arthritis. Hi, my 18 year old girl Tat has had hyperthyroidism twice. The first time 5 years ago. Only one gland was affected. We tried pills but she couldn't take them as they made her sick. She had surgery and was fine for 4 years. Then last year the other gland was affected. Again pills were tried but again...

Re: Did the cat take a lick?

One of my cats is a food licker. She loves buttered bread, not the actual bread just licking the butter off it. My cats are house cats so I am less concerned about what nasty bugs linger in their mouths. And yes I have continued to eat food that I know has been licked, that is if it has been just on...

My 18 year old girl Pudding has been taking Loxicom (same as metacam), for a year now for her arthritis. She never had kidney or liver problems and has been fine in that respect. I get her bloods checked every 4 months or so to keep an eye on things. She takes it directly from the syringe and seems ...
