Re: Possible health problems with feral cats
Hi there and congrats on getting the trust of these cats - sorry to hear about the girl though. As always - time is the remedy. I knew a mature feral tom with terrible ear problems - he would go near nobody but in the end he came to me for food...eventually he let me stroke his back...I tempted him ...

Hi again - I once read that the more confident cats in a household don't bother to bury their motions, but the shyer ones do. With my cats I've certainly found this to be the case - I always know whodunnit!

Aww, poor Theo - it's true, they do know. Hope he's recovered from his 'ordeal' now and normal cuddle service has been resumed, bless him. In my teens I had a boyfriend with a Honda 50 - sitting waiting for him on the front porch with my then cat Saada, I always knew when he was arriving, as Saada w...

Re: Amputated tongue help!!
However, part of the problem for your puss is that cats drink by catching the water on the underside of their tongue and scooping it into their mouths (saw it on telly slowed down recently). If she's lost part of her tongue, this is going to be really hard for her. Lilynmitz you're right! I once sa...

Re: Advice Needed For Re-homed cat
Hi and congrats on your new cat and good on yer for adopting him. I've just read a post by another member whose adopted rescue waited a day or two to wee etc. I think he's just feeling strange and he'll go when he feels more confident. There's always a chance he might have weed in a dark corner but ...

LOL! I'm not alone then :D Nannymcfee, I remember when I lived in a rural area and George (the Beast of Bodmin lookalike) used to stalk along the garden fence with some hapless creature in his jaws... 'George. Is that dead?' Crunch! 'It is now,' said George. He knew that if he brought it in alive I ...

Re: Litter Box Issues! Help!
Hi, sorry to hear you're having problems - there's nothing worse than persistent fouling - eww, especially when it seems like there's no solution. However, I did wonder. The litter tray door. One of my trays came with a catflap type door and I never fitted it. I took one look at it and thought, my l...

Poor girl! Yes, agree with Meriad - she may be getting all the hydration she needs from the wet food and water, and about a shallower bowl too, but wondered, might it help to give her a water bowl raised up to her chin level, so that she can drink without having to bend down and make the effort to s...

Re: Refusal of adoption of indoor cats
Sounds like these guys are living in the 1950s! In an ideal world, yes, sure, where cats can roam to their hearts' content in grassy fields etc etc... Only this isn't an ideal world. Even the grassy fields (for those cats lucky enough to access them) may be peopled by farmers with shotguns (I knew s...

Lazy evening. Cats have biscuits upstairs and downstairs all the time; wet food in the evening, between 8-ish 9-ish. Milk every two or three days, sometimes tuna or mackerel (found this half price and stocked up.) Tonight - right, milk, definitely; after Mouse, who tends to be constipated, had diarr...

We-ell...unless it became an emergency, I'd be inclined just to let her fade as long as she continues ok. No disrespect meant to Janey, but personally, especially at this time of year, I wouldn't want a cat to have to do a Jessie J.

Is he supplementing his diet somewhere else? We-ell... I once knew someone with a huge 'Postman Pat' type cat, naturally called Jess. She moved house. Re your worries about not drinking enough if she's on dry food, Lily was a very fussy drinker , but we had to make sure she did to control her many medical conditions. Towards the end of her life she wouldn't drink tap water any more, and I had to go out to get water from our water butt two or thre...

Hi Janet, have you contacted the Wakefield branch of the CPL (listed on this forum under 'find your local rescue cat shelters')? From what I've heard in the past they've always been needing homes for cats and a quiet home for an adult cat, especially one to be a house cat, ought to be a welcome prop...

She categorically won't touch Whiskas! I went to pets at home this evening and got 3 different boxes to try. We don't have kids so they're my babies, I don't want them to go without! Lol - they won't go without - cats are better survivors than humans! But do hope you have more peace of mind soon re...

Re: why cats stop eating all of a sudden?
Hi Mollysmummy :) I once knew a brilliant cat rescue worker who used to say, 'hunger is a very sweet sauce'. In other words, a cat who was healthy but faddy was best not worried about; if it wouldn't eat what was on offer, it soon would. This sounds a bit harsh I know, and I'd feel as you do about M...

Omg! Never heard of anything like that before! Is she completely covered in it? If it won't come off with plain water or a gentle soap, then I'd be tempted to try sponging with cooking oil. I keep snakes and in the past there has been misguided advice to tape heat mats etc down with duct tape, resul...

I'd never seen this before - I had to watch a youtube video to get the point. What sort of batteries does it use - ...

Hi there :) I like to spot clean every time a cat has 'been' although overnight, and if I'm busy, I may not notice the odd wee or two until later. I confess I prefer the fuller's earth clumping litter (Sainsbury's ultra clumping is my personal choice) as it's easier to find the wees and save the unu...

Re: Anyone got cats over 14 years old?
Often an elderly cat with arthritis may have problems squatting in the tray. A quick wee, no problem, but as for more serious stuff...My old Finn (never knew his real age - he had been feral) needed a little errm, guidance about NOT spraying indoors when he first joined us, but he got there, and he ...
