I should have realized cat was more savvy than me. For the last three nights, food put down at dusk, all food eaten by 9 by cat. Previously he would sometimes graze, coming back through the night for what he had left, but he to must have sussed the fox is eating his grub...

Thank you all for your replies. Id alerady thought of a more enclosed, cat litter/small kennel but a fox would still be able to get the food, if he really wanted to and it seems he does!. I live rurally and have been feeding a stray/feral cat in my greenhouse(many panes of glass missing, many ways in and out)for the last 7 months. So sorry to hear about hector.. one of my beautiful rotties Mina had a brain tumour last year then we lost her sister Sophie to cancer of the femur within weeks..their favourite tabby cat angel still misses her big pink tongue washing his face after mealtimes. Gentle hugs and kisses to your boy x

Well done you for taking a pro active interest in these boys. Ive tamed, trapped and owned many ferals over the years. An occasional stray,not part of the colony has on occasion been caught and if no microchip, he would be neutered.Its thekindest thing you can do. If youve a mind to keeping them why...

No chip, entire male and quite young.. poor boy was probably a farm cat.. so sad he will never be missed RIP little tomcat

Black and white cat found, sadly deceased on B3081 Road outside Port Regis school entrance. I will take to vets in the morning to check for a chip. He looks quite an old fella, no collar
