Could he be deaf?

I have known two cats to sleep like this. You think they are dead on the stairs. Both were actually deaf!

Re: Raw diet for FIV cats? Yea or neh?

Also, while it would be easy to assume that high protein would be a GOOD thing in any cat or dog food, too. Itch protein can lead to kidney issues. This is just an example of how a diet needs to be BALANCED. Commercial foods are great in that sense. People slate the companies often, but of not for t...

Re: Raw diet for FIV cats? Yea or neh?

Just realising now that I didn't address the absolute MOST important part of your original post....... And that is the meaning of "complete" food. A complete food is one that provides all the nourishment the body needs. Most cat food provides this, it is it definitely worth making sure tha...

Re: Newly Diagnosed Late Stage FIV - 4 Year Old Kitty

I am delighted to hear he is doing so well! I have many FIV cats, as I run a small sanctuary, but have no experience in using interferon for FIV. I have also lost many FIV cats over the years...... They always died from "something else" however..... To be honest, the cats I seem to end up ...

Re: Worms! What now?

I find milbemax really easy to give them! They are so small and half a pill does most of my cats as they are under 4kg. Mostly I just pop them down the throats, but for the strugglers, I use processed cheese. Only Abby refuses this (she only likes dry food) and is a struggler. She needs a dose now a...

Re: cat scratch disease? is it possible I've gotten it?

It looks like the type of scratch I wouldn't even notice happening either! My mother had cat scratch fever when she was young and living in Africa. She said she felt awful and had a fever. She was a nurse, and recovered with no medical treatment, and still brought the offending cat into bed with her...

Re: Tumor in lung

I'm so sorry to read of your sad news. I have lost cats and humans to various types of cancer. Last year, my old lady Minnie (she was about 20 years old) had a recurrence of a mammary tumour. She had had one removed three years previously and to be honest, was lucky to get three years. The mammary c...

Re: Panacur granules 1.8g sachet - kitten dosage

Yep, the rescue should really have armed you with all the info on worming! Parazole liquid is commonly used on tiny kittens and puppies as it is safe and easy to administer. It's given over three days, in smaller amounts than for an adult cat, for safety reasons. The granules you have really aren't ...

Re: Cats kidneys not working properly and ataxia.

I am so sorry for your loss Kris. She probably had bad kidneys (very unusual to have good ones at her age!) and the anaesthetic and metacam was just too much for her system. she was still a lucky cat to have you as her caring owner though....... You did your best for her, and we all die in the end. ...

Re: Potential conflict with vet

And Kris..... This is why bloods should be done on older animals before surgery. Anaesthetic protocols change with the risk factors that show up. All anaesthetics carry risks of course, but they can be minimised if you know what the dangers are. Do it once and do it right.

Re: Potential conflict with vet

I am confused as to why the cat has not had blood work done in three years because of age. Blood work is meant to be done ore often as they get old, not less frequently? A broken tooth is AGONISING. Animals, especially cats, continue to eat and drink and try to behave normally DESPITE enormous pain,...

Could you try using examination gloves to apply the steroid spray? It would protect you, and the gloves wouldn't absorb any of it like the lint, so less waste?

Re: Elderly cat constantly yowling

Hyperthyroidism immediately springs to mind, and it is a separate blood test as has been mentioned. It actually might take a couple of blood tests to diagnose as thyroxine levels can vary over time. Do get it done asap, as hyperthyroidism is serious but treatable, and catching it early can prevent o...

Re: How successful are IV drips for cats with kidney disease?

As others have said, it depends on each cat really. For acute kidney failure (caused by toxin exposure) I would certainly use fluid therapy to flush their systems through for as long as necessary, and pray that not too much lasting damage was done. I have only ever dealt with chronic kidney disease,...

The foreign one spread worse...... But Ireland and the U.K. Are different also, what is native here is not over the pond. I agree with Joe, and non-verbal communication is far more important. The other thing is the question of what we, as humans want from our pets. Cats are unique in the world of pets as they aren't very domesticated, compared to dogs. Your expectations may differ from reality. Cats CAN be cuddly but m...
