Re: Indoor/Outdoor Kitty and Day Lily Plants/Toxic Plants

A tip for digging them up: Carefully place a bin bag over the entire plant and tie it at the stem just above the ground. Then dig it up. Even a small amount of pollen can kill. I've been trying for years to get companies that sell lilies to state that they are toxic. But most of them just don't care...

"Some people are big fans of raw because it's supposed to be closer to a cat's natural diet. Well, a cat's natural diet gives its kidneys a high risk of starting to fail around 10-12 years old, because of the high protein." Isn't it high phosphorus you need to avoid, not high protein? I th...

Re: Looking for a home for our 9 yr old cats boy and girl

I'm shocked that your vet said this. As Kay said, 9 isn't old. Our cats lived to twice that age. We moved house when they were 11 and they settled in a couple of days. You obviously need to keep cats indoors for several weeks and only let them outside if the circumstances are right. There are some p...

Re: Cat Sitter

We don't leave our cats longer than 12 hours on their own in case the feeder malfunctioned and also because of an experience we once had. Both cats were fine and we went out for the evening. We returned late and Rosie was very poorly and lethargic. We had to take her to the emergency vet to have flu...

Alternatively, if you hired a pet taxi company recommended by your vet, they might be willing to help you as part of their service?

Re: Paid Help Wanted - Experienced Cat Owners/Veterinary Nurses

This is a nice forum, so maybe someone will be able to help you. Before inviting anyone to your house, look at their forum posts to make sure they're genuine. (I wouldn't post a request like this on any other forum.) Have you asked your vet? Some do home visits, or they may be able to suggest someon...

Re: Other pet owners and Fleas

We've adopted 5 cats over the years - all of them came with fleas. I agree that it's cruel and uncaring.

I wouldn't put flea treatment on someone else's cat without asking their permission, though, just in case they've just treated it or are just about to.

Re: Collar

No, if he gets his leg caught in a non quick-release collar, that can cause a terrible injury. Find a soft, non-stretchy, cat collar with a quick-release clasp. Check that the clasp releases - some aren't as good as others. Remove the bell as he might be annoyed it and that's why he's removing the c...

Re: Sudden crossed eyedness in cat

Hi Fumbi, Did you get eye drops from the vet? When she's awake does her eye look normal? Cats have a third eyelid which can show when they're ill, but it can also show when they're falling asleep or asleep with the eye partially open - this can look quite strange. Could you post a photo? If her eye ...

Re: Helping cats make friends

It's lovely that you adopted her. :) Eating near each other is a huge accomplishment. When we were introducing our two boys, they played with a rope on either side of a closed door. One would pull the rope and the other would pounce on it. If not a rope, then maybe two catnip toys tied together. (On...

Re: loving home needed

Hi Kim,

Have you taken him to the vet to be checked for a microchip?

Have you leafleted all the homes surrounding the allotment?

It sounds like he's started coming into your home. Your cat might accept him if you reintroduce him very slowly. (But first please check for a microchip.)

Re: Cat Fostering?

Did you recently adopt her and she's been doing this from the beginning? Or was there a change (move, baby, etc) that coincided with the behaviour? If it's a recent change, has she been checked out by a vet? Does she wee or poo outside the tray? (Or both?) Does she have a favourite place to do this,...

Re: Cat Fostering?

If you think you'll be able to move in the new year to somewhere that she'll be happier, I'd try to hold on until then, maybe try some new toys/games. It's not easy to find a temporary foster home and there's no guarantee she'd be any happier somewhere else. What kind of behaviour issues is she havi...

Re: Unhomable cat - out of ideas :(

I edited out my suggestion about a cat sanctuary because I've spoken with a rescue who said he probably would be homeable as an only cat and this would be better than a sanctuary which would of course have lots of cats.

Hopefully the rescue will post their advice here.

Please don't feel guilty. You absolutely did the right thing by taking him to the vet.

The vet clinic should be helping you find him. I would also use social media in that area to try to locate him.

I hope you find him soon.

Re: Unhomable cat - out of ideas :(

I echo Sniper1's comments about your commitment and care.

As this kitty craves contact, I don't think an outdoor run is going to be a good solution for him or you.
