Re: my cat died today, it was my fault

You didn't let him down hun, and he never would have thought that .... I understand how hard this is for you but please, please do not ever think you let him down - he was your special boy and he would never think you had let him down. It was purely circumstances and a total accident. You need time ...

Re: My baby has cancer and I'm a bit lost...

[quote=I promised Lila on the day we brought her home from the shelter that she would never have to suffer again, and I plan to keep that promise to the very end. Thanks for your ongoing support, and Lila is actually on my knee purring right now, so I think she thanks you all as well x[/quote] It so...

Re: my cat died today, it was my fault

People who haven't had cats do not understand how special the bond is ... your little Tilly will always be with you - that bond is too strong to break and he can give you a hug whenever you want - just remember how special he was and he will be with you xx

Re: need advice about adopting a cat and introducing to dog

Not sure I can offer much help but it would be worth letting the shelter know that you need a 'dog-friendly' cat? And how is the dog with cats? My parents had an elderly dog we attempted to introduce to our two rescue cats (who we were told were dog-friendly) ... they were having none of it though a...

Re: my cat died today, it was my fault

Who knows what cats will do in any situation - they constantly surprise us.... I know how hard it must be but please do not feel it was your fault. Tilly would have run out for any number of reasons - you have already said the dog was barking and you were trying to stop her from barking ... there we...

Re: long claws problem. advice please.

I plan to ask the vet tomorrow about trimming Georgie's claws - she does get them caught in carpets and clothing etc... Bit nervous about trying to do them myself but will ask the vet for advice.

I am definitely learning as I go - sounds like you have your hand's full too Bobbys Girl...! Georgie is improving every day, as she feels more settled - have finally managed to attach a picture of her too :)

Re: Any advice on giving medication to an elderly cat?

She is definitely more settled now - thank you. Sometimes she will take the pill in food and others it's 'down the hatch'! Her appetite has improved too - all-in-all she seems to be a lot happier and is even starting to make tentative friends with the other two :)

Re: Any advice on giving medication to an elderly cat?

Quick update... I took all your advice and this morning took the bull by the horns - or the cat (gently) by the head! Held her firmly, opened her mouth at the side and popped the pill in quickly. I blew gently on her nose as I had heard this makes them swallow and, hey presto, pill gone! I wouldn't ...

Re: How can I prevent my cat from going to the toilet inside

I can only agree with the others .... we have two litter trays - one primarily for our new senior addition who does not venture out yet (if she ever will) and the other for the other two cats .... the boy cat always goes outside but the girl cat will quite happily be outside all morning, return home...

Re: Any advice on giving medication to an elderly cat?

Thanks again everyone for your help and advice. We adopted two younger cats 18 months ago - they are 5 years old now and we couldn't imagine life without them now :) I kept thinking about all the older cats no-one seemed to want ... at the local shelter everyone seems to by-pass the older ones and t...

Re: Any advice on giving medication to an elderly cat?

Thank you everyone. Will try your suggestions. Maria - she seems quite alert and is very agile for a 15 year old - has no trouble jumping onto the dining room table, lol! It's hard to say what is 'normal' for her as I've only had her a week. Have only just lowered the dose (yesterday) so early days....

Re: Any advice on giving medication to an elderly cat?

I'm with Mark with the down the hatch approach, you have to be more determined than they are! You will get the hang of it and will probably find she'll eventually just accept it, Hector has been on medication for about 5 years now and he's a dream now in comparison to the early days!! Thank you for...

Re: Any advice on giving medication to an elderly cat?

Hi Maria She is on Felimazole. The vet at the shelter increased her dose to 5mg morning and 2.5mg evening as she was continuing to lose weight on the lower dose. She was on this when I picked her up last weekend. However, her lack of appetite is very worrying so the vet has advised me to lower the d...

Re: Any advice on giving medication to an elderly cat?

Thank you for your advice - I think I just need some practice as I cannot seem to get her to sit still to be able to open her mouth! I'm probably too nervous of hurting her at the moment - at least I know she can't bite me as she has so few teeth, bless her. I will try the approach from the side of ...

Any advice on giving medication to an elderly cat?

Hi everyone. We have recently adopted an elderly cat - she is around 15 years old and is on medication for an over-active thyroid. For the first couple of days she happily took her pill in a small piece of cheese - she led us into a false sense of security as for the past few days it is a battle to ...

Any advice on introducing a senior lady to 2 resident cats?

Hi there - just after a little advice if anyone has experienced something similar. We have just adopted a senior girl ... around 15 years old with thyroid problems who just really needs somewhere warm and loving to live out her retirement. We have 2 resident cats - both also rescues around 5 years o...
