Re: !help...my cat is tremering and twitching

I'm so sorry to hear about your cat. My boy had CKD and I don't ever remember him twitching or having tremors, but like you I'd wonder if it was due to high levels in his system. Has he had a blood test in the last week or two or a vet's appointment? I think you're in a difficult situation as he's n...

Re: Black stuff around cat's mouth

I came online searching for exactly the same thing as I've just noticed some black crusting on my cats lower mouth. This maybe connected with something ongoing for her - last week I noticed she was forcefully washing her face. She had a routine appointment, mouth and gums look great, no mites in ear...

Re: Heart murmur

The vet will listen to his heart every time you go (this is routine) so can keep an eye on it. We've only just found out recently my 17 year old cat has a heart murmur. Obviously there's a slight risk during operations, but we've just got her through one.

Re: New kitten won't stop miaowing

I got my two when they were just nine weeks. They weren't interested in Mum at all and were eating normally (I was lucky to see them twice in a nearby house so knew this). It might be Phoebe was kept in a smaller space being a rescue and is used to the company of others more, but hopefully as she's ...

Re: Is it time?

It's not an easy decision to make. As said before, it's better to let him go a day early than leave it. My boy had CKD, on the Tuesday his blood levels were through the roof, however, I brought him home. The next day he enjoyed his food and trips out to the garden. On Thursday he eat slightly less, ...

My thoughts are with you. Whatever is causing the weight loss, don't knock yourself for not getting further advice. I felt my boy should be allowed to have his last days being able to relax at home without the constant stress of vets visits.I recently had to have him put to sleep due to kidney disea...

Re: Sick cat in group home

You sound like you've had a lot of work on your hands and well done for trying to give you boy a chance. Are you cleaning the soiled areas with something like surgical spirit or a biological formula, as scent will attract them back to the same spot? It might be worth giving an extra litter tray a tr...

Becca, don't kick yourself. I knew for seven weeks my boy had CKD, he eat renal food (as recommended by the vet) for one week and then went off it. I think I could have had a more supportive vet (hence my reason for a second opinion), but two weeks on the outcome would have been the same with either...

Re: what to tell a toddler (2 years 10 months) after the death of a pet

It's a hard one as to whether I'd have let her see him, but in reality, I think yes but that would be based on her personality - she was and still is very matter of fact about everything, she took Grandad dying just before her third totally in her stride and just accepted it happened. Her language s...

Re: what to tell a toddler (2 years 10 months) after the death of a pet

Hi Becca If our daughter had been that age when we'd lost one of ours, I'd have done the same as you explain Puck was very old and very poorly. I'd then go on to say that because of this Puck has to sleep forever and he'll be going to heaven. If you're going to place him in the garden, maybe explain...

Re: Re-homed cat - hiding and wont come out

Personally I'd leave her if she's found a spot she feels a bit safer. As she's in a room that will often be occupied, just try and be calm in that room, no rushing around or loud tv. It might be worth leaving her with a bit of quiet time in that room during the day, so she has the confidence to come...

Re: 17 year old male cat, sudden weight loss, won't eat or drink

If you phone the vet's regular number, they might give you an out of hours contact number. If not, then sit tight and phone first thing tomorrow morning. It might be worth leaving a bowl of water where he can see it in the room he is resting as he might be tempted to have a little over night. My vet...

Re: UTI

Whether it's an UTI or cystitis, I'd feed as much wet as possible and add a little water to it. Also, if you can encourage her to drink more water or even a little cat milk, it will help as it'll keep the urine dilute and less likely to irritate, also, if she has irritation, she'll have something to...

I don't want to worry you, but does your vet do an out of hours service? If so, I think I'd give them a call, it might well be they say to wait until tomorrow, but at the same time it might be better if he has an early assessment and see if they can get liquids in him. If not, I'm sure they'll see y...

Re: 17 year old male cat, sudden weight loss, won't eat or drink

He definitely needs to see the vet, whatever the diagnosis your vet can keep him more comfortable. Licking lips is a sign of nausea, so for some reason he's not feeling great. It might be worth gently squeezing the skin between his shoulders, does it stay up or go straight back down. If it stays up ...

I agree, I'd get her checked out by the vet as soon as possible.

For both of them, it might help if there's an extra litter tray. Also, not sure how often they are cleaned out but if you and your room mate could clean them 2-4 times a day that might help.

Re: New user worried about my cat Tiddles

We tried all wet flavours of Royal Canin renal for my boy, Royal Canin dry and ProPlan chicken. He'd lost interest in dry the last few months of his life anyway so my surprises he didn't like that (his sister did who didn't need it!) and out of the wet ones he was more likely to eat the Royal Canin ...

Re: New user worried about my cat Tiddles

Some cats won't eat a renal diet. If she goes off or won't eat Hills, look online and order 2/3 different options - wet if possible since cats with kidney disease can easily become dehydrated. Also, put extra water bowls around. If she won't take the tablets, phone the vet - a good vet will be able ...

I appreciate money is short, but you really need to take her to the vet - they can confirm before you go how much the consultation will be, and may be able to give advice on how to keep her comfortable even if you don't have any other treatment. Any good vet will talk through options, ie what they c...

Personally, I'd give him a bit more and see how that goes for a month or two. Hopefully he'll put the extra energy into growing rather than putting on weight and then review it then. He may be a bit more likely to have teeth issues in old age on just a wet diet, but a wet diet will be so much more b...
