Re: Safe food for cats ie chicken etc

I have just spoken to the vet and said he is eating food very well atm (ie chicken etc) but will not eat cat food and he did say this sounds like a poorly cat. We have cancelled his biopsy for next week and seeing how he goes on the metrobactin. He will need a few check ups but it quite unsettling t...

Re: Safe food for cats ie chicken etc

I am trying to convince myself that him eating copius amounts now he has something more pallatable means his possible illness is not as bad as once thought. I am also hoping the metrobactin is doing it's job, Proof of the pudding is whether he puts weight on. I know my food bill rocketed up yesterda...

Re: Best worming treatment?

I use Milbemax. Gemo had worms 3 weeks ago and am confident they have gone. I don't like spot on treatments now and tablets are the best. I wish a flea treatment was available in tablet form as well as worming.

Thanks Janey I found some! They had lots in tomato sauce or lemon and basil too. I also stocked up on tuna, chicken, white fish etc! Food bill was a bit of a shock with his expensive tastes.

Re: Safe food for cats ie chicken etc

I have read before that liver is very bad for cats and is a no no. I didn't know about pork but thought processed COOKED meat is fine. I understand tuna is a no no too which is a shame. Sardines normally are in a rich sauce which is not good. Can anyone shed any light on why he won't eat cat food? T...

Re: Metrobactin

Well no diarrhea for Grany atm. Maybe this metrobactin is working? Vet has advised he remains on this indefinately. I wish I could see some more noticeable improvement. Vet thinks this may help reduce his enlarged lymph nodes if he has had a virus or parasite problem in his gut. I am having problems...

Re: Safe food for cats ie chicken etc

Thank you so much for the replies and thankyou Alan for the ideas and taking the time to respond. He has woofed down two plates of chicken this evening! No need to wash up the bowls for once  I am so confused as to why he will only really eat chicken etc and terribly guilty he has lost so much ...

Re: Safe food for cats ie chicken etc

Thank you. I will get some fish tomorrow. He has just woofed down 2 bowls of chicken. I cannot understand why he won't touch cat food? The vet suggested he eats what he wants as opposed to nothing at all. It proves he has an appetite but not sure why he is so fussy? We can only come up with the fact...

Safe food for cats ie chicken etc

Can anyone advise me of what human foods that we eat which is Ok for cats too please? Our vet has suggested we feed Grany chicken etc to encourage him to eat more, rather than him not eating cat food and losing even more weight, He has a biopsy on Wednesday next week so will hopefully shed light on ...

Re: Peritonitis (dry form)

I have spoken to our vet tonight. We adopted Grany 6 weeks ago but he had a probable unknown illness which shocked us all when FIP came back negative. It was thought he had the tail end of a virus at the refuge. The vets were shocked and a little stumped as they have not been able to diagnose his pr...

Re: Microchip cat feeder

That's the one. If you go to the Sureflap website, you can check whether your cats microchip will work it. I don't have one, Tilly being a Maine Coon and rather large she would not fit comfortably under the yoke which is only 200mm high , but I have heard they work well for small-medium cats. Thank...

Re: Feeding times - I am really struggling now

Thank you for the reply. I have looked into this but we have had a microchip cat flap and it was so unreliable that we could not use it on one of the cats as the chip was slight misaligned so would not work. If we go away it would be such a worry. Thing is as well, he is so finicky with his eating a...

Re: Feeding times - I am really struggling now

Thanks for all the replies. Wow glad I am not the only one. I have read that too much diet change makes them even more fussy and confuses them and the likes of gravy is too rich for their digestive systems and if grany's is sensitive anyway. He has Go cat as in just 5 or 6 a day which shows he can e...

Re: Training to use a cat flap

I feel sure it will suddenly happen. Even now ours make a drama out of using the cat flap, especially if it is windy. Most of our cats picked it up quite quick but one took a little longer, then just one day it clicked. What your doing is great. It will happen.

Re: Feeding times - I am really struggling now

You know the old saying - you can lead a horse to water, but you can't make it drink! Sometimes Purdy is like that. I put food down in front of her 'nah, don't want that.' OK missy, just go hungry - I take it off her and feed the others. It's amazing, the other cats are all chomping away and Purdy ...

Re: Feeding times - I am really struggling now

Just a question. If I left out some dry food for Grany, would he eventually have to eat it? He manages dry treats so does eat dried food but he won't eat Iams or RC. Should I be more harsh with him even though he needs more weight? Past experiences gratefully received with your kitties please?

I feel you pain. Our cat has allergies to Frontline. The company initially replied but have now washed their hands of it. He too keeps scratching just asnit is healing. Well tuna for starters which is not good for cats! I would rather get him onto a diet we can manage without having to rules our life around his eating. Even short breaks away with a neighbour coming in are tricky atm as he will miss out on what he shoudl be eating and Gemo will be getting even bigger!

If you have had similar issues with cats tummies do you notice any weight loss? He is a scavanger for the good food!...

I am not sure. He was a probable FIP but both aspirations came back normal (negative) which was a relief. He is having a biopsy of his tummy lymph nodes on the 30th Nov to see what they show. What is safe to give cats? I am just worried that giving him treats wil make him even more fussy than he is now. I just need to get him to eat dried food, then it would be plain sailing. I simply cannot buy any more bags of food. I am wasting so much.

Feeding times - I am really struggling now

I have mentioned on here before my issues with one of our cats with feeding times. We have had Grany for 6 weeks and has become very fussy with food. It could be an underlying problem (being investigated) or because the other cat tries to steal his food I am not sure. Anyway, some questions please? ...

Re: Oucha - Endoscopy cost?

I have just had a rough look and the animals trust have a charge on their website of under £200 and another organisation give the cost at around £1300. May be worth shopping around a little...if that is the right choice of words.
