New cat terrorising our girl
We adopted Diabolo in November. He is coming on great after a very timid start. However the problem we have now is he chases Gemo in from the garden at speed. She seems happy when he is not around but we are concerned he is taunting her too much. She is always aware of him when he is indoors but can...

Re: Cat wanting to go out/behaviour
I heard this too. I know someone who does this and leaves a plant pot outside. He seems fine ish now.

Cat spray smell
I got up in the night and can smell cat spray. We have had a new addition since November but he does wind Gemo up and maybe they are marking their territory. They are male and female and both done. I have some spray to deter a cat marking their territory, (well it is actually a urine spray so they w...

Re: Cat wanting to go out/behaviour
Actually, just thinking - if you look through the catflap yourself I(and I mean going down onto the floor to cat flap level), to the outside... what is there? Could it be that he's seeing something that he's not sure of so won't go out that way? Ha ha...I have been at cat flap leavel quite a bit th...

Re: Cat wanting to go out/behaviour
Diabolo has been going out now for 10 days and is doing really well. What a transformation since his arrival in November...apart from one thing! He uses the cat flap to come in but won't use it to go out???? He does half scare himself to death with the speed he uses the thing but for some reason goi...

Re: Cat wanting to go out/behaviour
My hubbie did that yesterday so may try it again. He goes through it propped open but when it is shut sees it as a "no entry" if you like. Yet the other day he was so desperate to go out and it was locked but was trying to use it by pushing it so cannot win. Thanks for the idea.

Re: Cat wanting to go out/behaviour
Thanks all for your experiences. I cannot get him to use the catflap properly yet. He doesn't like the click of the microchip. He has used it once when he got spooked and legged it in but just cannot seem to grasp the concept. I do hold him at the cat flap, use treats etc but he waits for me to open...

Re: Cat wanting to go out/behaviour
Does Diabolo now have 24/7 outdoor access or still confined to daytime only? Well done him and you for how far he has gotten; so pleased for you all :) He has gone out all day today but he struggles with the click of the cat flap. He has been trying to go out just now and given up and gone to bed! ...

Re: Cat wanting to go out/behaviour
I wish someone would bring back the cat flaps with a sliding solid panel to close it off - cats could instantly see that they couldn't get through it, I'd never even heard of that, but it sounds like a great idea. When my young cat had to be kept in for 4 days after being spayed, I taped a piece of...

Re: Cat wanting to go out/behaviour
I wish someone would bring back the cat flaps with a sliding solid panel to close it off - cats could instantly see that they couldn't get through it, and so did not spend ages trying to open a closed flap, which had been open earlier - nor could they see the outside through it and of course that s...

Re: Cat wanting to go out/behaviour
He is fine overnight, has food all night, litter tray is cleaned last thing at night and first thing in the morning. It is a going out thing as he sees Gemo going out and pines to go out himself. Once he is out he is fine, or if we stroke him or play with him but we cannot play with him all the time...

Re: Cat wanting to go out/behaviour
He has gone back out this afternoon and did return! However the meowing because he wants to go out is quite excessive. It will sort itself out when he goes out all the time but shutting him in near dark etc is awful. Tomorrow will rain so will keep him in and we are away Friday Saturday and the same...

Re: Cat wanting to go out/behaviour
Thanks Janey. I am tearing my hair out. He went out for an hour this morning and came back in with food. However, whilst he knows his name indoors, he ignores me outdoors as he is too inquisitive. Having been out for an hour, he know is meowing again to go out. It is a vicious circle really. When h...

Re: Cat wanting to go out?
We let him out yesterday after a couple of weeks of uncertainty. He was fine. admittedly he was only out for 10-15 mins before his tea and was fine. He came back in for food but then as with all cats his persistant mewoing to go out again. We have this with all cats and was to be expected but it was...

Re: Cat wanting to go out?
I feel we are making huge steps wi Diabolo. However we are not brave enough to let him out. He knows the words tea time, we can stroke him now and he knows his name. We still cannot go up to him and stroke him but a minor problem. We are just not brave enough to let him out. Normally we have cats th...

Re: Cat wanting to go out?
I agree with Ria, keep them both in at night (it's safer for the cats that way anyway, as well as helping the local wildlife). Hopefully they will both settle down at night then, without Diabolo feeling deprived when Gemo's out and he isn't. They'll probably make a fuss to start with, which will dr...

Re: Cat wanting to go out?
Thanks meriad. I was thinking overnight about that as I think he would be better off with Gemo indoors too. He is quieter when she comes in yes and is settled during the day. Just as an add on, I think shutting Gemo in is not an option as we go on holiday in 7 weeks and shutting her in and having tw...

Re: Cat wanting to go out?
He knows food time butnit is whether he is happy with us. Also he is timid to our movements amd wasn't sure if henwould get spooked outdoors? I am not sure how protective we have to be before letting him out.

Cat wanting to go out/behaviour
We adopted Diabolo in November. He was incredibly timid and still is. He is better and lets us stroke him on his terms but is jumpy if we move etc. He is so noisy at night at the moment and when Gemo goes out goes mad and sits by the cat flap meowing until she comes in. He doesn't try and go out but...

Re: Cats indoors and holidays
Thanks for your lengthy reply and help. A cattery is not an option as I think two of them in close proximity and also getting Diabolo in a cat box would be impossible. I think at least them being at home together in their own surroundings is better. Diabolo has taken a lot of disruption and stress s...

Re: Cats indoors and holidays
Hmm yes I see your point. I would never expect any neighbour to be responsible for them going missing. He cannot go to the cattery as he is hard to catch and not very tame atm, hence the question. We have family staying in August and that is fine as they can be here for him. We have left Gemo before...

Cats indoors and holidays
Do any of you go on holiday when maybe one of your cats stays indoors all the time? We have an indoor cat atm and will be a long time before he can go out but I am reluctant to book a holiday because he is indoors all the time whilst the other one goes out. We have a sureflap and our neighbour will ...

Re: Advice needed
Sounds like a hairball, however the refuge may help. You can buy food especially for the prevention of hairballs. If not ask the refuge. One of our cat does something similar and I have never been sure if it was an allergy to dust etc or hairballs but seems fine and only seems to do ot when we have a...

Re: Diabolo friendly at meal times-holiday
Diabolo is the same as my last posting, however he is getting quite restless when he sees Gemo going outside. The SPA refuge said he should stay indoors for a few months. He knows mealtimes now but still doesn't answer to his name but he understands the words teat time or fish as food times. We can t...

Re: Letting cats outside
Whilst you can keep a dog in a secure garden they can still escape. As for a cat is it pretty hopeless. I haven’t done this as I don’t need to, but lots of forum members have their gardens catproofed and I don’t think they get out if it’s done well.[/ Would love to see how this is done as cats can ...

Re: Letting cats outside
Not really. We lost a cat to a quiet road and would never of dreamed Thomas would of been killed on it. We did live on a busy road once when we were renting and kept Sam indoors, however he did develop crystals in his urine due lack of exercise so is a vicious circle. Cats do and will stray for mile...

Re: Getting a cat to the vets
Hi Emmab I haven't posted as others have given good advice. Mum's cat Tim Tam, both now gone to the Bridge, hated being put in the cage and I was the one who had to do it. She hated me! I agree with putting the cage out for a while and just let Diabolo 'settle' for a tad. Keep us posted. I think,it...
