Re: Introducing a cat to a pup

Hi Fjm. thank you. Yes it will take time. holly is being crate trained and one fo our cats from time to time ventures into the room but Holly has chased him once in the garden. It is all about careful discipline and more importantly time.

Introducing a cat to a pup

We have two cats and one we knew may be an issue with a dog. One will be fine and just will take time. The second, our female is more highly strung. She is spending her time upstairs and comes down but goes out via the bedroom window and will not come in the lounge and use the cat flap. How can I in...

New pup to two cats

We dearly would love to adopt a pup. It would have to be a pup as we have two cats. The cats do not get on, although they are marginally better these days. I know one of the cats will get on with the dog and we know the pup gets on with cats and have a good rapport at the moment but the other cat (f...

Re: Zylkene

Thank you. I hate seeing Gemo like it as she used to go outside. Now she stays in the same room and creeps around the rooms slowly just in case Diabolo pounces on her. This is with the Zylkene too so is quite bad. Horrible to see. I would love more and a dog but would be so stressful for her.

Re: Zylkene

He was incredibly scared when we got him and whilst he is still very jumpy he has changed hugely but it is hard to know how to treat his behaviour. They are both fine eating together in the evening and both get excited about teatime but it is the rest of the time. No matter how much I tell him off f...

Zylkene

I am giving our little Gemo Zylkene for calming her down. We adopted a cat a few months ago and he bullies her a little. She won't go out and pretty much sits in one room now which is very sad. Anyhow I started her on Zylkene tablets which helped for a while but don't seem to be now. I was thinking ...

Re: Zylkene

Brill that is great to know your cat is doing well with it. I initially bought 75g but vet recommended two weeks on the 225 mg so have bought some stronger ones today. Does say it takes 6 weeks or so to work and is not an overnight thing?

Zylkene

I am interested to hear from others owners who have their cats on Zylkene please? I have partly covered it under another topic which may have been overlooked with some of you interested in this topic but would like to know your experiences. The vet receptionist has recommended 75mg but later the vet...

Re: Royal Canin Calm

The vet has said the RC Calm is fine to take with the Zylkene. However the receptionist has sold me 50 x 75gram but the vets email later suggested they can take 225g? I am checking with her because I now have x50 - 75g which may not be strong enough.

What is the best way of administering Zylkene? In water would be good as I am trying to keep them on RC calm and am trying to cut out treats.

Cat scared to go out, always looking around for the other cat as well as peeing in the house in places other than the litter tray. Not even going out to wee and using the litter tray.

Re: End of the road for adopted cat

Oh I hope so. Yesterday I noticed he was a little better with her but maybe because we were around. I keep saying to hubbie that of she would stand her ground a little and maybe rip into him just once he may back off....we live in hope. Dabs is out all day too. I may see him from a distance half way...

Re: Royal Canin Calm

Ah OK. I have just emailed my vet to see if Zylkene may help Gemo and her stress with the adopted cat. I know RC Calm has some in but may not be enough. Also may not sort the issue out long term either.

Re: Cat Pee Question

Cats can still spray even when neutered. We too have Gemo peeing atm in the house but it is because we have adopted another cat she doesn't like. Do you have litters trays in the house? We found that was a problem as she was too scared to go out. Obviously the key is to find out why they are peeing ...

Yes, I am giving them felix wet at night so will have to stop that and give them 100% RC Calm and see how it goes. The reviews are really good for it.

Re: End of the road for adopted cat

...in the short term yes as long term we are moving to the house so they will soon confront each other again! Such a hard thing to have to go through. this evening Gemo was asleep by the open door and Diabolo just krept up on her to try and swipe her. She is peeing indoors from time to time and usin...

Re: End of the road for adopted cat

The chickens can be sorted with fencing but the cats are not so straight forward. Letting one out when the other is in just gets far too complicated. You cannot force a cat the stay outside if they are scared and you end up spending all your days doing nothing else. We have come up with a solution o...

Re: End of the road for adopted cat

Yes have tried Feliway and stress reliever from vets. They are on RC Calm atm but not seeing any difference. Gemo is scared going out now which is not helped having chickens as well as the new cat. I would never return him to the Spa as he has had a bad start and would only let him go to a new home ...

Re: End of the road for adopted cat

Yes they have a cat flap and use it but Dabs chases Gemo in when she does go out so she stays in expecially at night. They do eat together but occasionally she growls at him. He sometimes teases her and chases her in the house which she hates. They occasionally scrap. Only once she ended up at the v...

Re: End of the road for adopted cat

Yes it seems like a new home is the best option but nobody can seem to take him. I am rather annoyed as one of our freind wants a kitten which annoys me as our SPA is full with cats and people seem set on getting kittens. This is my bug bear when they could take him and offer him a lovely home. They...

End of the road for adopted cat

We adopted a wonderful cat back in November. He has come out of his shell so much and is utterly adorable with us but he is not getting on with our existing cat. It's a terratorial thing and no matter what we do they just aren't getting on. During the day they may have a little tif but for eg tonigh...

HI there...I have never heard of it but on looking it up, the new cat was on it for 3 weeks when he arrived as he was beyond scared and nervous. Re: Change of diet and cats not getting on

Thank you. I agree about the not telling off. I have to admit we are and probably is making them more stressed. I have tried the Feliway without success. I am doing the treats thing. I may speak to our vet when I go re food. Much appreciated for your response.

Change of diet and cats not getting on

We adopted a cat in November but neither of them are getting on. He does bully our existing cat from time to time and does chase her in or tries to wind her up for no reason. I am thinking of changing their diet and will probanly end up speaking to our vet. What diet is best for this and does anyone...

Re: New cat terrorising our girl

I thought I was seeing a quiet period and Gemo and Diabolo were, well, not getting on, but accepting each other a little but they have just had quite a big "to do". Problem is Diabolo stalks Gemo. If he sees her coming up the garden he stalks the cat flap from inside. We tell him off but c...

Re: New cat terrorising our girl

Well Gemo has an abcess on the base of her tale after a fight, I am presuming with Diabolo. Typical as this always happens days before we go away. Vet has given her Kesium but not drained it as she said we had caught it early although she still has quite a lumps and quite noticeable through her fur ...

Re: New cat terrorising our girl

Gemo is quite jumpy, especially at night. He chases her back indoors and this morning I notice she has what looks like an abcess on her tail. Past experience with another cat tells me she has been bitten at the base of her tail, so a trip to the vets is on the cards. The main problem is she hisses a...
