Re: Cat scratching himself until he bleeds

Hello Isabel I am so sorry to read of your cat's scratching problem .... I know only too well how distressing it is to see a cat tearing itself to pieces with scratching. The jacket we were sold at the clinic by a locum vet can be found on www.medicalpetshirts.com (if your vet does not stock them. I...

Re: Kidney Disease.cat

Our cat, Blackie suddenly stopped eating his usual beloved Felix wet food and I nearly drove myself mad trying different foods all to no avail. In desperation I pulled out an old packet of RC renal diet food (which he always turned his nose up at) only to find him devouring the whole packet. In a wa...

Re: Moving 180miles with an elderly cat? Help!

Sandra... you are a ;lady after my own heart! What you have written about not wanting to even decorate let alone move homes sounds just like me We moved my mother's cat some years ago back to our own house 165 miles away after my mother had to go into a care home. We ended up at the local clinic whe...

Re: Arthritis and Tramadol

It may well be stress related from any pain your cat is experiencing. We had a similar problem with our cat last year. He licked a large patch of fur from his left shoulder, It-t was bloody and looked terrible. A steroid injection given by a locum vet did nothing. When we saw our own vet, she sugges...

Re: Teeth Ckeaning

A belated thanks to those who replied to my query whether to go ahead with the cleaning of our cat's teeth. I did speak to our own vet - She told me that the problem was due to a mouth ulcer which would heal. She seemed reluctant to go ahead with proper teeth cleaning. She suggested waiting for 2/3 ...

Teeth Ckeaning

Having been consistently told by our usual vet that Blackie's teeth are ok, I was shocked when the locum vet this morning pulled Blackie's top lip right back to show me how bad his gums lookede and also that he had a mouth ulcer. Our normal vet has been telling me all along that his teeth are fine. ...

Re: Cat scratching himself until he bleeds

Hello .... its been a long time since I was last on this forum. Some might remember me ... I can answer your query ...in the end, the Head Vet at the local clinic decided to try a steroid called Delvosteron - 2 injections 2 weeks apart. I was amazed to see a definite reduction in Blackie's scratchin...

Re: Gabapentin

Just wanted to write thanks for the replies. Gabapentin was actually prescribed by our vet because she believed him to be suffering from stress and Gabapentin would act as a sedative to help with his appetite - which was almost zero. She then showed me that unbeknown to me Blackie had taken all the ...

Blackie has been prescribed 0.5ml twice a day of this sedative. Has anyone here had experience with this medication for their cat?

Re: Kidney disease and diet

As Blackie eats smallish meals during the day I just spread the amount to make up the recommended daily amount. He won't eat renal food and in any case, our vet told me as long as he had Ipakitine over his food he could eat his normal diet. We have used Ipakitine for 4 years now and Blackie seems mu...

Thanks for replies. Am inclined to stick with Advocate and Milbemax. Blackie is very much an outdoor/indoor (in that order) cat.
I do wonder how much commission these vets are paid to use certain products  [*]

Re: weight and medication advice?

Our cat was diagnosed with a luxating patella a year ago. He also has a degree of arthritis in his limbs. I was worried about giving Blackie Metacam for his luxating patella and arthritis because his kidneys are not all that they could be. Initially he had a some vomiting issues with it. The local v...

Re: Our seemingly healthy cat dies suddenly. Still trying to figure out what happened!?

Very sorry to learn your sad news. My mother woke up one morning to find her 7 year old cat, Sofie, dead on the landing floor. She had no idea what or how this had happened ... I remember her crying on the phone when she called to tell me. But this sadness led to a life being saved. A little black k...

That's interesting - I didn't think they could be picked up on x-rays. After Lucy had her hip operation she did a lot of flicking her leg out, but seems to have stopped so that might have been her dealing with the muscle wastage. I'm very reluctant to do surgery, the room rest for her hip op was ha...

Re: Sore cat??

Been to vets today. Vet felt her back legs and pretty much straight away felt that her knee caps were popping in and out of place which could cause secondary arthritis. To give metacam for a month but she might need surgery which would need to be done at a specialist vets so would cost thousands. A...

Re: 59.3% protein in green lipped mussel powder. Suitable for senior cats?

Hello We have been giving our cat YuMove (protein content 32%) on recommendation from a Professor of Orthopaedics when we had to take Blackie to a referral hospital last year because of an apparent luxating patella. (In the event, the op never took place). When I saw the ingredients, I asked our loc...

Our cat had problems with Profender too ... he didn't ingest any of it (thank goodness) but I noticed after using it, he developed some hair loss along with redness of his skin where it had been applied. I stopped using it and contacted Bayer by email to tell them what had happened - I did get a rep...

Blackie has cystitis ... probably my fault

I was told by the vet after Blackie had a urine test in January that there was some blood in his urine. He then had a CBC blood test in February and the urine sample he provided under sedation showed there was still blood in it. She told me on a scale of 1-3, the blood level his urine was 2 so to up...

Blackie was 'bought up' on the white Catsan for the first 10 years of his life but I changed it to the Catsan clumping litter. The vet phoned me yesterday with the CBC results and they were pretty inconclusive as far as getting to the bottom of whatever it is that's wrong with Blackie's vomiting and lack of appetite. The results were as near normal as can be expected of a cat 15 years of age with early CKD. The only one she...
