Re: Refusal of adoption of indoor cats

There is simply no point in assessing an indoor only home if you don't have a cat with has the health issues that require it to live indoors it simply isn't going to reach the acceptable levels to keep an active and healthy cat stimulated like the outdoors. I'm sorry I haven't got time to read the e...

Re: Refusal of adoption of indoor cats

The stimulation of outside access can never be replicate din an indoor only environment and I'm sorry but outside access is a fundamental right and necessity for cats which is why there is no need for discussion if somebody comes to us wanting and 'indoor only cat' We may believe cats are domesticat...

Re: Refusal of adoption of indoor cats

As a rescue we will would never home fit and healthy cats with no need for a restricted lifestyle to live their entire lives cooped up inside. Its a straight welfare issue and rescues are here to ensure the cats welfare. I frown on any rescue that would home cats as indoor only assuming that turnove...

Re: Kitten heart murmur

The vast majority of cats suffering from low grade heart murmurs will live symptom free BUT a large amount will get a thrombosis suddenly due to a small blood clot so your vet may appear un concerned but I would always raise the concern of blood clots. I have seen far to many young and old cats with...

Re: Titer Testing

Bobbys Girl. The Zoetis Fevaxyn Pentofel is an all one vaccine which includes Felv plus the usual 3 nasties, Panleukopenia, Calici and Herpes and additionally Chlamydia. Its an 'inactived vaccine' so the the viruses are dead which is in principle the best option for FIV+ cats. Basically it is the do...

Re: Titer Testing

Vets unfortunately see annual vaccinations as easy money and most people don't question their vets!! To many now don't even offer Felv as an additional vaccination and just carry the whole lot as the only option as a single vaccine which for a 9 week old kitten is one heck of an assault on the syste...

Re: Question about Corona Virus please advise!

Corona Virus is endemic in cats effecting about 80% of the population at some point or other. The virus in itself is benign for most of the time and in very rare cases for reasons still unknown can mutate into FIP which is terminal but by no means a threat to your existing cats. Think of Corona as M...

Re: Kitten heart murmur

Grade 1-2 heart murmurs in kittens are not unusual as like babies when born their heart valves are open and close over a few days/weeks in most cases but some take longer. If it is this then by 5/6 months it should have gone, if not then a low level heart murmur won't usually cause problems but need...

Re: Kittens home alone

As a rescue I also don't home single kittens either especially if they're going to be left for periods of time. I think if you see how a litter of kittens interact together as a family you would understand why it is just not possible to send a single kitten into the world to be alone for long spells...

Get a cat that NEEDS restricted access as there are so few opportunities for these cats especially that will have the luxury of an outside enclosure. Its a complete myth that if a cat has never been outside it will not be missing anything. You can't suppress natural instinct and the great outdoors a...

Re: Hand rear kitten with diarhoea

Top Life Goats Milk is good and can be bought ready made from most supermarkets but I'd suggest just a extremely dilute formula at this stage of 25% kitten milk to 75% water to keep him hydrated but allow his guts to settle for 24hrs. 190g is small but big enough to forgo milk for 24hrs. I use Infac...

Mum gets often get aggressive to their kittens at about this age as in the wild they would naturally drive them away so it is a normal behaviour. I won't home mums and kittens for this very reason. Re: Tiny kittens found - urgent advice required

Ideally putting them back and then sitting back and waiting for mum who is hopefully domestic is the ideal as it means mum can be spayed and kittens homed when old enough. Unfortunately not an ideal situation so hand rearing is the only option now. Ring local vets, most have at least one member of s...

Re: Going Outside - what age ?

For what reason? Have you any idea the number of young un spayed females that end up pregnant because they were let outside (many supervised). Cats come into season in an instant and a male cat can be on them just as quick. All she has to do is get out of your sights for a minute, be frightened by ...

Never let an un spayed cat outside even under supervision. If you don't want to keep her in then bring the spaying forwards.

Re: Need help finding a Cattery

Yes its the only cattery I will use or recommend for the rescue cats we rehome.

Go and have a look before you decide but its cats only, quite, safe and run by cat lovers not business people. They adopted 2 cats from my rescue 3 years ago and they will look after your cats very well.
