Re: Raw diet for FIV cats? Yea or neh?

At the moment he is being fed on Hills Prescription wet and dry which has helped immensely (and every now and again I give him chicken wings from Asdas). I dont know why but all the other foods I fed him on (Bozita etc) gave him bad diarrhoea

Re: Raw diet for FIV cats? Yea or neh?

Hi If you would like a good on line company to look at try this link, I used them for my Ted, however he was not FIV. They are local to me but do deliver all over. I fed him raw and he loved it and also some dry too it worked for me and him but as I said not FIV. http://www.nurturingbynature.co.uk/...

Re: Frequent diarrhoea issues

Kylie was rapidly losing weight. Her poos had gone from sloppy to liquid and basically food was passing right through her. We never really got to the bottom of what caused her diarrhea in the first place, despite testing for everything, including hyperthyroid, parasites etc. He even thought at one ...

Re: Frequent diarrhoea issues

In Kylie's case, she had dangerously low levels of B12 and folate What type of symptoms did Kylie have before you took her to the vet and found out the above? Tobias eats well and is a good size. I took him to the vets two days back to have his claws trimmed and they weighed him again/did a normal ...

Ironically, the vet mentioned this to me after prescribing him Hills and said this could be another option (feeding him chicken or rice)

Re: Frequent diarrhoea issues

I live in a rural area with a big garden surrounded by fields but a very busy main road nearby. For that reason I lock everybody in at night so they never get used to the road when it's quiet - by day it's so busy, and noisy, that they're unlikely to go near it. It also helps the local wildlife to ...

Thanks for the link btw. Ironically I came across the same pic but on a different website 2 days ago. He is defo an ideal weight and when I took him to the vets a few weeks ago they said he was a good weight, teeth were good etc. I guess I just need to keep an eye on him to see if he puts on/looses ...

Re: Frequent diarrhoea issues

I confess I don't measure exactly, but my oldies get about 50g of wet food and a handful of dry twice a day - that's fine for them as they mostly sleep so don't burn off much. Any more and I start to notice them getting pudgy - and that's really how I work it out, by trial and error. All cats are d...

Re: Frequent diarrhoea issues

@Crewella WOW, very interesting! I too have felt that I was feeding KTW too much but the vet recommended following the RDA  As you have been a cat owner for so long, what would you do if u were transitioning one of your cats onto a new tinned product? The one I have is 200g each (which is the ...

Re: Frequent diarrhoea issues

The foods he's eaten before was chicken with no mix. Ive looked at the ingredients on the food that gave him diarrhoea to see if there was a common denominator but I cant see any aside from the fact that they are very high % in meat lol. Id love to know from everyone: When you are transitioning your...

Re: Frequent diarrhoea issues

When I fed him Smilla (high content in fish), he had a very bad reaction to it so I don't give him fish at all.

Im thinking it could be the fact that both Bozita and Animonda are high in meat but cats are carnivores so.....

Looks like I have a long road ahead of me

Re: Frequent diarrhoea issues

You guys are so amazing! Thank you so much for your responses, I really appreciate it! I should probably go down the route of eliminating certain foods but what I know for certain is that King Tobias Warrior has diarrhoea when fed Bozita and Animonda - CP were feeding him Felix/Whiskers pouches and ...

Re: Frequent diarrhoea issues

The 4% thing is a common misconception. All it means is that by law, pet food must contain at least 4% of the NAMED FLAVOUR. There will always be more than that. In the case of those pouches, given that they don't contain any cereals, the other 96% has to be meat and meat byproducts - usually thing...

Re: Frequent diarrhoea issues

My Kylie has a sensitive system which developed over the last couple of years. We nearly lost her a couple of months ago as she was wasting away. Anyway, surprisingly, the best wet food I have found for her is supermarket own brand in gravy. Oddly. most foods in gravy contain cereals, but this does...

Re: Frequent diarrhoea issues

So far, Hills Prescription has been the best for his stomach - but its a bit pricey for me to maintain him on this so I decided to try the Bozita Feline Tetra Pak - Diet & Stomach Sensitive . After a week of weaning him into it, it appears that this isnt good for him either - the diarrhoea is back! ...

Re: Raw diet for FIV cats? Yea or neh?

I have 30 rescues who are a mix of FIV and not FIV. Most love a chicken wing but the odd one doesn't or cannot eat it (lack of teeth again!). I pretty much do what crewella does. A mix of wet and dry and premium and cheap brands. I buy stuff that is on offer and feed the best I can afford. I rarely...

Re: Frequent diarrhoea issues

Thanks guys. Ive spoken with the vets and I will put him back on a subscription diet for a few weeks. Frequent diarrhoea issues

I took King Tobias to the vets last week because I came back home and noticed blood on his throw. When I looked at his bottom there was blood so I assumed he had used the litter box, bled whilst pooping then sat on his throw - I assumed the worst and as he is FIV+ I took him to the vets later that d...

Re: My boy vomits daily

Fish can be a bad one. In my experience certain cereals and fish can be two of the worst. I adopted a pair of elderly cats from CP about 10 years ago who couldn't have cereal and they both were put on Purina without cereal, just rice. If I gave them other cat foods as a treat they had diarrhoea. I ...

Re: My boy vomits daily

Thanks for the replies (and laughs LOL) Hes been eating Bozita Chicken and Turkey as it has the highest meat content. My boy vomits daily

He is still eating and acting normal but everyday I come across a spot of vomit (which he eats after to try and disguise it). Re: My FIV+ boy just got into a fight! So annoyed at myself

Thanks guys. I just got back from the vets - they checked him over and clipped his nails (boy did he put up a fight haha!) My FIV+ boy just got into a fight! So annoyed at myself

So as most of us FIV+ cat owners know, we are told (by our vets, CP etc) we must keep our cats inside. But I want my boy to have the best in life (and I still dont know whether he truly is an indoor or outdoor cat). Anyways, I went outside to smoke and there he was, waiting by the door for me. I dec...

Re: Best Pet insurers for FIV+ cats

I know some folks would insure, whatever the cost, but with SO many exclusions you would probably be better setting up a little savings account. That would cover the basics and go towards any bigger costs. So true. Hes an indoor cat so most of the exclusions are things Id have to pay out of pocket ...
