Foster Kitten Care Chart

I wrote this up as much for myself as anyone else. Every "Kitten Season" I foster kitties for the local Humane Society where I volunteer. We just finished with two boys and now have four that were found in a dumpster. I hope this helps people raising bottle-babies to know what to expect an...

Re: Advice need for new cat introduction :)

Age doesn't matter as much as personality, but elderly cats are more stressed with change and less likely to except new cats, so ages 1-5 would probably be better. Walking a cat on a leash could work, but I agree with you, I think they would spook. I know mine would. The smell of dogs can ...

Re: Advice need for new cat introduction :)

That is very considerate of you that you see she is feeling stressed. Was there any change in her environment? Does she have enough hiding places and places to climb and feel secure? Does she seem healthy? If everything else is already and she truly is just bored and stressed then another companion ...

Re: Where else to look for a rescue cat?

Kitten season is over, which is why kittens under 14 weeks are difficult to find during the winter. However, there are still out there, and if not, just wait a month or two and you'll be finding some kittens soon. : ) Other places to search include people rehoming animals (be careful of scams) or pe...

I'm so glad things are going well. : )

One day shouldn't make a difference. Fleas can be a real pain!!

Best of luck!

Re: The amazing world of a foster parent

I have officially adopted Nocturne! Seems she's a special-needs girl because of Hydrocephalus, or water on the brain. She was always unique, but to learn that she may have real health issues means its best just to let her be in a familiar place where she can be loved. Not to mention I wanted to adop...

Re: The amazing world of a foster parent

Nocturne, Twilight and Oziana have all turned out to be females. They are about 10 weeks old but only Oziana has reached the 2 lb mark, so they are still with us. The whole family has fallen for Nocturne so she is practically adopted (we just have to make it official). Lyla is doing well, has gained...

Re: The amazing world of a foster parent

My babies, Trouble, Ollie, Kai, Bee, Cash and Tesla, have been put up for adoption at Petsmart and all of them except Trouble have found their new homes (he might have over the weekend, updates are given on Thursday and Fridays). Fred has been adopted as well! However, we still have seven we are wor...

Re: The amazing world of a foster parent

Cash, Kai and Ollie will be joined by their siblings, Trouble, Bee and adoptive sister, Tesla, tomorrow. The new trio will be going in to be fixed and then put up for adoption to find their forever homes. Not only this, but Lyla's kittens hit the miracle-mark of four weeks of age (when they begin ea...

Re: The amazing world of a foster parent

Thanks guys. Its nice to know people understand. : )

Yes, Cash does have big ears, but his sister, Bee, has even bigger ones! They are the two cuddliest ones of the litter.

Re: The amazing world of a foster parent

Tomorrow is the day I have to say good-bye to the kittens I have had for the last seven weeks: Ollie, Kai and Cash. I know they will be given wonderful care and go to amazing homes, but it's going to be hard. It's hard enough just to go into the room and play with them right now. They'll be so confu...

Re: The amazing world of a foster parent

The foster kittens are doing very well: we currently have the five (Ollie, Cash, Bee, Kai, and Trouble), a longhaired kitten around their age (Tesla) and Lyla with her trio. Two orphans around 1-2 weeks of age will be coming to our house for a few days this week as their foster mother is out-of-town...

The amazing world of a foster parent

I've adored animals ever since I was a young kid, fascinated by their behavior, appearance, and care. I think anyone who likes animals has to like the cat, they are so graceful and unique, and yet so common at the same time. Over the years we have helped a number of cats (mother's with kittens, stra...

Re: NEW CAT FOLLOWING BEREAVEMENT

It can be so hard to get a cat or any animal after the loss of one, because you feel as though you are trying to somehow get back the companion and friend you lost. Our cat Nym lives indoors (our other cats are mostly outdoor cats) but it can be hard at times because our first indoor cat was actuall...

Re: Cat=Human names

We've had a mixture of both for our pets. Some of our cats have very strange names: Scardy Cat (when we were trying to take her home she hid and everyone on the farm was trying to find her) Tiger Tail (orange stripes on his tail) Tabby (kids named her) Pygmy (he was one of our larger cats) Nym Barel...

Re: Struggling with grief

I am so, so sorry. The loss of a cat is so difficult, no matter what the cause or what age. We have lost so many cats over the years, but it never gets easier.

However, I know that no matter how short a time you had with your cats, you gave them a wonderful life. They were very happy with you.
