Re: bowls for jelly/gravy lickers

Don't you believe it - Tilly would manage to push her dinner out of those bowls. She manages to push it out of vertical sided bowls with an overhanging lip!

Re: Pet Insurance

For my first cat Sally, I had a savings account, which covered all her vet bills over her long life. There was enough left to cover my aged Misty who was to old (9) to insure when I got him. I insured Honey (who I got at the same time) as I didn't think I could cover both of them if they got ill at ...

Re: Pancreatitis stories/information

Hi Victorriann My girl Tilly has had several bouts of Pancreatitis - she nearly died from it last year. If you use the search facility on here you will find the threads about it. I think milk caused Tilly's problem - we have not had a recurence since I banned it from her diet.

Re: Yumove - how fast to take effect?

So I forgot to put the Yumove on her dinner tonight. She sniffed at her dinner and then looked up disgusted! So I hastily put it on and she scoffed away contentedly. Looks like a repeat order for the stuff will be on its way soon!

Thanks for that link, Lilith, gives me confidence that it will carry on working. I hadn't noticed the strong fishy smell, but that would explain why Tilly likes it so much!

Yumove - how fast to take effect?

Tilly has begun to show signs of arthritis (I have been expecting it for years) jumping up to places in stages where she used to bound up in one go. On my vets advice I have started to give her Yumove to ease the condition. Not had any problems with giving it to her - far from it, she aims for the p...

Pleased to hear that Tilly is doing well. At her stage in life, gaining weight is a good thing - they loose it all to easily (although my Tilly is gaining a bit to much!)

Fostering seems the best way forward. Maybe if you ever have to give Si back, a bit of economy with the truth is indicated, something on the lines of "we had all this cat food left over from our old cat, so thought we would try it on her".

They're a stunning lot of cats.
My Tilly is also adept at hoovering up everyone at the Vets, when she had to have her bandage changed after her leg operation (having dunked it in water) she somehow required 1 vet and 4 vet nurses to change. I didn't get a look in!

Re: Large cat flap selective on exit needed

I also have a Maine Coon and a Sureflap Pet Door (also got because Maine Coon's don't fit normal cat flaps). Looking at it, I don't think it would be easy to waterproof the inside so that it could go outside and it would make operating the controls very difficult anyway.

Re: Tilly being naughty again!

My Tilly used to keep all the dogs round here under her paw. The jack Russel cross living a few doors down the road didn't dare go out into his own garden if Tilly was sitting there. Tilly is beginning to feel old now, and has retired from the dog harassing business much to the relief of the local d...

Re: Next Door's Cat Eating Our Cats' Food

I agree with the others, it would be best to get your cat microchipped and then install a microchip controlled cat flap. Some cat flaps can, however, also be controlled by magnetic keys, attached to a cat collar. The great disadvantage of those is that (assuming your cat will tolerate a collar) the ...

Re: Mia - a new chapter begins

That's great news. I have never had to undergo the worry of the home assessment, as Sally chose me without any intervention from rescues. When I went to get Honey and Misty after her death, I was told they did not need to do a home visit as they had checked out the terrace some months before when my...

Re: Cat insurance - a mind boggling maze!!!

Mollycat, the £4,000 figure was based on experience. Its what Tilly's surgery costs were when she broke a tarsal bone in her back leg just before her 3rd birthday. Definitely what you need insurance to cover. Prior to that, I never had a Vet bill much over £200 with any of my cats and was wondering ...

If Teddy Bear the Maine Coon can masquerade as the Essex Lion, then Ghandi can pretend to be the fiend of Dartmoor! Its amazing how people can misjudge the size of some cats.

If you are looking at Encore, which comes (I think) in 75g pouches for your £1.00, maybe try Thrive chicken breast + (various) at £1.09 per 85g tin?
It is strips of cooked chicken in broth and is a complete cat food. Worked wonders on my convalescent Tilly a few years ago.

Have you tried steamed or grilled Haddock? Many years ago, I tempted an old cat of mine who was off of everything into eating with cooked Haddock.

Got home yesterday and saw a black furry face in the window - next door's Toto. I opened the door and he shot upstairs in fright, knocking things over as he went and hid in a corner of the attic room(unlike his brother Tay who just trotted out the front door). Took me ages to get him out. And to thi...
