Re: Allergy testing?

Can't help with how or how quick tests are done, but I have a work colleague who is mildly allergic to cats (though not as bad as he is to dogs) and he lives with his wife's cat in residence, whilst taking anti-histamine and such like stuff.

Re: How much food

For a 1 year old 4.5kg cat (assuming he isn't fat at the moment), I think I would give him 2 Felix pouches (which are quite OK) a day plus some 20-30g of dry (not sure how many egg cups that is).

Possibly try one of the hooded litter trays, which might keep the pong in?

Re: Pancreatitis - Bobby not eating

Hi Jackie. Sorry that ruse didn't work with Bobs - cats just have to all be different and Badger was certainly quite odd in many ways! I don't think my vets were keen on syringing food in either - hence the feeding tube which worked in giving Tilly's pancreas something to work on and not keep making...

Re: Vet Costs, Why do Vets Charge so Much

Can't say I have ever felt my vets charges are excessive, for all that I have sometimes thought that the new vet hospital they opened about 4 years ago was built on the fees they got from treating Badger and Tilly! This is probably due to being a partner in my own business and knowing how much they ...

Re: Pancreatitis - Bobby not eating

I have had some unpleasant experiences of Pancreatitis with my Tilly - indeed she nearly died from it last May (you will find a thread about it on here somewhere). Getting her to eat was the hardest part and she had a feeding tube installed for a week whilst at the vets for the last bout. Every time...

Re: Rescue Cats

Agree with Kay and Ruth - emphasis is on time, and 2 weeks is nothing to a nervous cat. Took my old Misty months to come out of his igloo hidey hole when I took him on. I didn't even appreciate what a magnificent set of whiskas he had, as they were always flat back on his face. When he finally got h...

Re: Duvet covers that repel cat hair?

I use Mary's method - several cheap (now somewhat tatty) sheets that can be cycled between the bed and the washing machine. Not only do they keep Tilly's long fur off of the duvet (also worked for Badger when he was alive), also prevents muddy paw prints on the duvet as well.

Re: The mysterious case of the knife in the night

I had a Beagle many years ago, who opened the fridge door at night, pulled out the pyrex dish with his next weeks dinners in it, carefully put it on the floor, removed the lid without chipping anything and then scoffed the lot, followed by half a flan. He was forgiven because he was just recovering ...

Glad I'm not the only one who succumbs to feline stares! Tilly's official dinner time is 5:15pm, when I get in from work, but its more like 3pm at weekends this time of year. I also have to put up with stares from next doors Tay and Toto, who seem to think if their mummy is out I should go and feed ...

Re: Its too COLD Daddy!

Well, Lilith, there was a time, nearly 8 years ago now, when snow up to their tummies stopped Badger and Tilly going out. It wasn't that they didn't want to go (indeed they were impatient to get out) but all the water they had dumped on the cat flap from their belly fur when they came in the night b...

Its too COLD Daddy!

Tilly went out this morning, met an icy blast and shot back indoors! Seems a long time since May when she was complaining of the heat. Even longer from the days of her youth when she went out and played in the snow for hours!

When Tilly gets bored with her food, she often sticks her paw in and licks of the pate - or flicks it all around and manages to spread it on her fur and tail!

Re: worming my cats

My vet recommends Broadline, which is a squirt on back of neck type application that kills fleas, worms and ticks for 4 weeks. I use it on Tilly and it is effective, although I have heard that in some parts of the country fleas are getting resistant to it.

Welcome Rosy! Seems a good name. I have never seen any need to change the names any of my cats came with and they certainly have not been bothered. Re: Cat coat needs sorting

I agree with Booktigger - a trip to the vet for a shave is probably the least stressful option. From experience with my long haired Tilly, the detangling combs work OK for maintenance purposes, but are a trail for the cat if trying to deal with bad tangles and mats. The shampoo stuff is totally usel...

I've never had any trouble with CP pestering me for more money than they get already and they are beneficiaries under my will (and know it). Tilly has had no restrictions on the food she eats. Initially she had 2 tins and ...

My Tilly has had three bouts of Pancreatitis, the last, back in May by far the worst (there is a thread on here about it somewhere). For some hours her vet thought she was going to die. Re: cat freedom?

If he is happy indoors, I would keep him that way. 8 and a half is old to start learning the dangers of outdoor life. As a matter of interest, my Tilly, who is 8 and a half, and who used to be out hunting from dawn to dusk as a young cat spends most of her time indoors these days.
