Can FIP be spread in my house?

Sadly our cat Bronte passed away a month ago as a result of suffering with what our vet thought was FIP (Feline Infectious Peritonitis). We would love to adopt another cat at some point, but I’m worried about whether the virus may be lingering in our home? We have thrown away all of Bronte’s things,...

Re: Think my cat has cat flu?

Just a bit more of an update. Bronte has had 2 more days in the vets and they think there is another underlying problem as she has high calcium in her blood, as well as high globins and being anaemic. They have done x rays and an ultrasound and cannot see any masses, they are now doing various blood...

Re: Think my cat has cat flu?

Took Bronte back yesterday and they put her on a different antibiotic and gave us some eye drops. Have been finger feeding her every hour at home and today she is back in the vets for the whole day so they can try and build her up. Temperature is normal now and urine is fine, but she's anaemic. She'...

Re: Think my cat has cat flu?

She hasn't eaten properly since Monday, only what we've force fed and a couple of treats. Thanks for the suggestions, will try and get that from holland and Barrett tomorrow as I was popping up to the shops anyway. The stuff for the water sounds good as well, as she is drinking. Will try anything at...

Re: Think my cat has cat flu?

She is still not eating. Tried fresh tuna, fresh turkey, the high calorie food and lick e lix. The only way we can get her to have anything is to physically put it in her mouth. We are going to keep doing that until she will voluntarily eat anything. At the moment she just gags when you put food in ...

Re: Think my cat has cat flu?

Thanks for the advice ladies! She doesn't seem keen on the high calorie food, though we will keep trying. Bought everything paste like I could find in the pet shop! She has licked up some of a Gourmet Gold soup, didn't see Whiskas so will try and get some of those today. My friend's mum has given me...

Re: Think my cat has cat flu?

Thought I would give you an update. I took Bronte to the vets yesterday morning and they kept her in to do tests. Initially they thought it might be leukemia or cat aids which shook me up quite a bit! They ran some tests and thankfully it wasn't either of those things, but a viral infection. They ke...

Re: Think my cat has cat flu?

I have checked at my local vets and they open at 8 in the morning so going to ring first thing and see if they can see her. Just need to get through the trauma of getting her in the cat box first- she hates it at the best of times!

Thanks for your advice.

Think my cat has cat flu?

My two year old cat has been bunged up for a couple of days now. She sounds snuffly, is snotty and has runny eyes. She has not eaten in two days, although is drinking and passing water. She is not cleaning herself and is just sleeping on our bed all day. She is a quiet cat usually anyway, but has be...

Thanks for the advice.

I haven't tried asking the vet, but I will do if the over the counter stuff doesn't work this time.

Re: Fleas on my longhaired indoor cat

Would you just use that on the carpets and soft furnishings?

I also have a steam cleaner so could try using that if that would work too?

Fleas on my longhaired indoor cat

Hi, Really hoping someone can help me! My fiance and I adopted a rescue cat in November and we have had a few instances of fleas on her. We noticed a couple while grooming her a couple of weeks after having her, despite her being treated with Stronghold. I killed these and treated her with Frontline...

Re: Introducing shy rescue cat

Thought I'd give you an update. We have continued leaving our bedroom door open for her and she still comes in but isn't as vocal as before. She came in and jumped on the bed of her own accord last night, she spent the rest of the night in the lounge. She is eating well and is coming to us for lots ...

Re: Introducing shy rescue cat

Thanks for the advice! It's good to know others have experienced the same thing and you don't think she is stressed out. Am on my own tonight so will leave the door open for her again and see if she wants to come in. I think more than anything she just wants to know that we're still about and haven'...

Re: Introducing shy rescue cat

We left our bedroom door open last night and she started coming in meowing every hour after about 3am. She did jump on the bed and start kneading at one point but she couldn't settle. We got up with her about 7am and put some fresh food out but she wasn't interested. She keeps wandering round, looki...

Re: Introducing shy rescue cat

Thanks ever so much for all the advice! Think we will try leaving our door open tonight and then at least she has the option to come in if she wants to. I'm just glad that she is eating and using her litter tray, as that was my main worry at first. As you all say, it will take her time but things ar...

Introducing shy rescue cat

My boyfriend and I have just adopted an 18 month old female rescue cat. She is quite shy and was very overpowered by some of the more boisterous cats at the rescue centre so she likes to hide a lot. She has started to come out and fuss around us, however as soon as we both leave the room she goes an...
