Re: Fleas

Thanks for the reply. He went to the groomers at the end of July, and 2 weeks later I assumed he had a skin problem as he had some dry skin near his tail, so booked him in at the vets, only for the car to break down, and have to put the appointment off for a week, as it seemed really minor I didn't ...

Fleas

A little bit of advice needed, in the past one of my cats got fleas, I treated the house, treated him, and all was well, I moved into a new property with a flea infestation, treated it, and all was well. Fast forward a few years and recently after a visit to a new cat groomer my indoor house cat got...

Re: Cat on a diet

I think he will be back on the Felix from tomorrow and 2 and a half pouches to start, I think he will go mad on 2. Mine also scavenges if there is not enough, he even turned his food bowl upside down tonight to see if there was any food underneath it, he got so desperate I gave in and gave him a lit...

Re: Cat on a diet

Thanks for the reply. He is like an old boxer, I think he had a rough time of it before I got him and got into plenty of scrapes, so he probably is just trying to get food whenever he can. I was worried the Felix was poor quality an maybe he would do better on a grain free food. He loves the new foo...

Cat on a diet

I got my cat from a rescue just over a year ago, and he came to me weighing 5 and a half kilos, was very big and solid muscle estimated at 7 years old, he was neutered by the rescue charity vets and I took him on. We assume he was owned at some point and then left outside to fend for himself for yea...

Re: Cat brain tumor how long?

Sadly I had to put my beloved Tabby to sleep today, he did incredibly well on the steroids until Saturday when he started to go downhill, we did it before he got too ill, and the vets agreed it was the right time. I am amazed he lasted as long as he did, and at least his last months he enjoyed the l...

Re: Cat brain tumor how long?

We didn't find out the type of tumor, as we didn't get them to do an MRI, a very experienced vet examined him looked at his symptoms and diagnosed him after an x-ray found nothing (we thought his problems were caused by bad teeth) He is 16 and didn't want to put him through more general anaesthetics...

Cat brain tumor how long?

I just wondered if anyone on here had experience of this. I posted before about my 16 year old cat being diagnosed with a brain tumor about a month ago, and he has been put on steroids 5mg daily. I really had prepared myself for his death, and didn't think he had long left as he was in a poor state....

Re: Drooling cat with tongue out sneezing

I got terrible news today, after they did an x-ray and full examination of him, they think he has a brain tumor, and it's pressing on a nerve, causing all the problems, we also found out he cant blink his left eye and will need eye drops 4 times a day. It has all happened so fast it is a terrible sh...

Re: Drooling cat with tongue out sneezing

I think he is going to have to have an X-ray and a full exam of his nose and throat, I will be calling the vets tomorrow morning to arrange it, if the antibiotics were doing anything, I think I would have seen some sort of improvement by now. Thanks for the offer of help LAR. I will contact you if n...

Drooling cat with tongue out sneezing

Wondered if anyone has had anything similar with their cats. About 10 days ago Tabby started sneezing, he then started to sleep under the bed, which he does in the winter, so was not too worried. He then started to drool on the left side of the mouth and stick his tongue out, and his lip moves up on...

Re: Elderly cat insurance opinions

Yes, I wish i had put all the premiums in a bank account, it would been a very large sum of money by now. We have decided to put the money we would have spent on insurance in a bank account for him, we are lucky in that we have savings and could pay in and emergency for treatment so no worries there...

Elderly cat insurance opinions

My 15 year old cat Tabby has been with "morethan" for many years for his pet insurance, and I have only had to claim once, last year he was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism. He had lots of tests, a scan of his tummy, almost a full MOT, and now 6 months after his treatment started his latest ...

Re: Night time terrors: 1 year on

Ghandi sounds so much like Mr T, lovely big fluffy older cat with thyroid problems, who famously stole someones sunday roast one day, and managed to get it through a cat flap! that was in his younger days though. He also loves to bang on the cat flap when it is locked over night to wake me up and ma...

Re: Night time terrors: 1 year on

Issi, I would like to say thanks for your post, I lost my cat Sooty last Saturday and Billy about 14 months ago I now have my lovely big Mr T left who I love to bits. It is so easy to get wound up with grief and not celebrate their lives. I have been on here reading others posts and yours really gav...

Re: FIV Cat digestion issues

Thanks to everyone for their replies, I went to pets at home tonight and bought 3 boxes of food James Wellbeloved, 2 different types of Royal canin, one which is meant to be for sensitive stomachs, and fingers crossed he will do better on all this. The Applaws although he loves it probably was not g...

Re: FIV Cat digestion issues

I didnt realise it was a complimentary food, thanks for you both posting this. When I tried feeding him other brands like Felix or Whiskas he gets an upset stomach, and due having no teeth, he finds dry food hard to eat. I have already tried the kitten food, and he loved it for a while, then went of...

FIV Cat digestion issues

I have asked questions on here before and got excellent support, so I thought I would come back and see if anyone had any ideas. My 8 year old FIV cat Sooty, has lost more weight, and although eats plenty just cant put weight on, he tends to weigh around 2.4-2.6 kilos, and at the moment is at 2.4 He...

Re: Persistant Upper respiratory tract infection

I have not had him tested for FCV or FHV, we took Sooty in as a stray in our road, already infect with FIV knowing nothing about his past, whoever had him before us had not even bothered to neuter him, and we estimate he was about 1 year to 18 months old when we got him, really annoys me how people ...

Re: Persistant Upper respiratory tract infection

Well after several days on an IV, four in total, he bounced back from it and a week later he is eating his favorite chicken again not quite as much as normal but it's something. This is the worst he had been yet, I assume due to him having FIV. I am trying to get him to eat l-lysine snacks to help. ...

Re: Persistant Upper respiratory tract infection

Well, another day on the IV, a steroid injection, and painkillers, and he's back this evening and eating and drinking. He seems to have bounced back a bit. I gave him some salmon fish skins and sliced beef. Fingers crossed this will last. I have also bought some L lysine chews for him to try and pre...

Re: Persistant Upper respiratory tract infection

Thanks for your replies. Just back from the Vet's, and I have been told he is very dehydrated and needs 3 days on an IV, with me bringing him home every evening. They are very good there and I know they are not trying to make money from me, he is really ill with this infection. I had the Bisolvon po...

Persistant Upper respiratory tract infection

I posted last year about my cat with a severe Upper respiratory tract infection, he was very poorly, but eventually recovered, only to get another 6 months later as we were about to fly out to Spain, followed by another starting this past Wednesday. He has not eaten since then and only started drink...

Re: Upper respiratory tract infection

He had this happen back in November as well, but he bounced back quickly after a trip to the emergency vet, however this time, due to being on steroids I think, he is taking much longer. Warming the regular cat food up as not helped, however, tonight I tried warm stinky fish, he had a few mouthfuls ...

Upper respiratory tract infection

My poor cat Soot has this, and has had it before, but this time after a visit to the vet on Friday, the rehydration treatment and antibiotic shot have not made him bounce back as he normally does. He is already thin, and was on steroids (pred) to help him put on weight due to other health problems, ...

Thanks for the link to that vitamin supplement on Amazon, I just ordered some and will try him on it as soon as it arrives.

I did try a product like you describe called Royal Canine convalescent support, which you mix with water to make a calorie dense liquid, but he wouldn't touch it, typical.

Need Advice on Soot my cat

My poor cat Soot who I took in as a stray has FIV and he is almost 7 years old.
