Re: Forum change on 18 December

Oh gosh I am shocked and saddened!
It’s been such a useful place to me and Mama Cat (who was my partner, until she passed away)
I will miss looking in and posting.
Thanks for everything.

Re: Reuse or replace ?

I read somewhere else that cats can tell the difference between an old scent and a recent one.
So I am less concerned, as it maybe a few weeks until I get another cat.

Reuse or replace ?

I hope to get another cat shortly to replace Billy who was PTS. Do you think it's all right to provide the new cat with Billy's previous things e.g feeders, bowls, water fountain, cat trees etc or will it detect the previous cats scent and be put off using them ? I have a huge amount of things alrea...

I lost my best friend yesterday

I had to have my cat Billy PTS yesterday! He had not been eating for a few days and was very lethargic, so I took him to the vet on Thursday last. The vet gave him some hydration fluids and an injection of something to stimulate his appetite, and they said bring him back in the morning and we will h...

Re: Cat spooked by workmen

I think I worked out what he did on the first day he went out and wouldn't come back in at night. Normally he sleeps all day indoors and goes out at night. I'm guessing he went and made himself comfortable somewhere outdoors and slept all day (which to him was normal, but in a different place) When ...

Re: Cat spooked by workmen

He came in during the night and was like his former self, he was very pleased to see me and wanted lots of fuss ! This is the last day of work for about a week so I think I'll leave him in the lounge with his food and water and a litter tray for this morning and later in the day when they have finis...

Cat spooked by workmen

I have had workmen in my flat for two days and my cat has got spooked by them being here. He has always been wary of strangers so I wasn't surprised that on the first day he disappeared out of the cat flap into the garden although he did come in yesterday when they had gone, and ate his dinner, Toda...

Re: Electronic cat fence

I very much doubt I will install one; I too am concerned about giving my cat tiny electric shocks! This is from their website: - "(It) is a low-level impulse, similar to a tens machine and is very safe and harmless. It startles the cat and each cat will have its own impulse level. Once trained ...

Re: Scottish Wildcat

I would say that the one in your picture is a feral Tabby as most of the coat pattern is spotted rather than striped. A genuine Scottish wildcat has few or no spots. Compare these pictures. This one is a hybrid https://images.immediate.co.uk/production/volatile/sites/23/2019/05/hybrid-1a-058c835.jpg...

Re: I have a dilemma!

I may have got an answer. It would seem he has developed a dislike of eating indoors (goodness knows why!) I put his microchip feeders outdoors, firstly unsheltered then inside a largish cardboard box laid on its side (to shield them if it rained) and he ate without hesitation. So, I have ordered an...

Re: I have a dilemma!

He eats and drinks from a variety of types of food** and water bowls and almost all are plastic, but mostly the microchip feeder (I prefer that as it covers the food after eating) (** in summer I sometimes put his food in a bowl with an ice chiler to try to keep it fresh but it doesn't keep it cover...

I have a dilemma!

My cat has always been a bit of a picky eater. He is fed from microchip feeders and I put down 2 pouches of wet food (or similar) per day and another bowl is always full of dry food (also water) and he would eat what he wanted. Often there is wet food left over which I have to throw away, I live in ...

I am so sorry about how it turned out for you and your beloved cat. If it were me I would think about suing for veterinary negligence. From what you describe the outcome was possibly inevitable but your cat might have been spared the pain and suffering and PTS sooner and you could have been spared t...

Re: Cat biting unprovoked

Perhaps, to him it’s just a game and he needs to learn to do it more gently. A few stern words perhaps might work when he does it.

I knew a cat that would chase its keeper up the stairs nipping at her ankles, it was just a game of chase and catch

Re: Is my cat turning feral?

My cat is doing a similar thing. After being an indoor cat for almost 9 years he decided he wanted to go out. A year on, he is out almost all day and night and seems to come in only to eat and to get fussed and petted. I know more or less where he is, laying in a sunny spot, or under the hedge at th...

Re: Cat flap

My cat was almost the same when I installed one. Prop it or fix it open somehow (or maybe even remove the flap entirely) then the nervous cat will get used to coming and going through the opening, then try setting it so that the 'click' when it unlocks is deactivated (I cant remember how that's done...

Re: Aggressive Neighbor Cat

Bengal cats are a hybrid between a regular cat and an Asian leopard cat. https://wildcatsmagazine.nl/wild-cats/asian-leopard-cat-prionailurus-bengalensis/. As a result of that they are a little larger than a regular cat, more 'wild' and need lots of exercise and stimulus and may be quite challenging...

Re: Do cats eat Hamsters?

Gordon you are wrong; cats do eat hamsters. Cats are carnivores, and they are born hunters. Further, rodents are one of their favorite prey, and hamsters are a part of it. A hamster is nothing but a juicy meal that makes a perfect snack in a cat’s eyes. Once a cat sees an opportunity, it will pounce...
