Re: Unhomable cat - out of ideas :(

So many thanks for your responses and words of encouragement. First, to confirm, they are all indeed neutered. This particular one has a very wide head. I'm led to believe that may mean he was neutered fairly late. In terms of the dynamic between him and the others - so that's to say the spraying on...

Unhomable cat - out of ideas :(

Hi, I hate that it's got to this point, we're both very upset, but can't see a way out of this. I'm posting in the hope that someone can come up with an option that we can't see. About three years ago we adopted three cats together. All male, two brothers, one from another pair of brothers. They wer...

Scenting indoors

About 18 months ago we adopted three male cats. Two of them are about 5 years old now, we suspect they are brothers, and the other is aged about 7. So the story goes - the eldest one - the one with the problem - lived with his brother with an elderly gentleman who passed away. All four cats (so, two...

Help! What are these spots?

Our 5 year old has this. Found it tonight, fairly certain I'd have spotted it before if it had been there for longer. My initial thought was that this was a pair of ticks. However they're not. Attacking them with the tick removal tool makes them bleed slightly, which would still leave open the possi...

Re: Stray or feral?

I tried lying on the kitchen floor one night - I had some work I could do, and he came in. I was at the other end of the kitchen, side on, and I didn't look at him directly. I had left the food near the cat flap as far away from me as possible. Just me being there was enough to make him turn and lea...

Re: What cat would be compatible?

With regard to other cats in the garden, he's just protecting his territory. When we got our second cat we thought we'd done everything right - we had a big male, we got a small female. We did all the scent exchanges, the safe-room and so on. It took about four months before she would be in the same...

Re: Stray or feral?

The IR footage isn't very clear, but here's an expanded slightly enhanced view of him on his way out.

Re: Stray or feral?

if he doesn't spray inside the house, or near it outside, it could be he has been 'done', as in my admittedly limited experience with local unneutered but not feral farm cats they spray liberally and regularly around a kennel I leave outside for them He sprays the kitchen - I can smell it - and eac...

Re: Stray or feral?

Thanks everyone. I'm nearly certain that he has no home. He isn't neutered. We're now at the "put posters up in the village" stage again (been here before!) asking "Is this your cat?" to make sure. I have a decent photo of him now that I can use. We're actually emigrating in a fe...

Re: Stray or feral?

The date on the first video is wrong, we'd only just got the camera and hadn't set the date and time. On watching the second and third videos - he was actually here for 9 minutes. I wonder what he was doing in that time apart from scenting things - I can always tell when he has been in. He's certain...

Stray or feral?

About two years ago we had a problem with a stray attacking our pair, a large tabby who after a lot of help on here and some effort was captured, neutered, and is now living happily in a new home thanks to a rescue and rehoming centre. Our pair have passed on now, sadly. However we think we have ano...

Best Flea Treatments [UK]

Our cat has a bit of a flea infestation. She's always itching and when I comb through her (semi-long) fur, the comb ends up with fleas on it especially around the neck and tail areas. Which then jump off and bite me. My arm is covered in bites. We picked up on this a couple of months ago and have tr...

Re: Adopting a second cat - behavioural advice

Although some of the circumstances and timings are different, the one thing that probably unites all of these posts is the unknown factor of whether a resident cat will accept another one. We knew, for example, that our male (now passed) would accept another cat because he had lived with other cats ...

Re: Adopting a second cat - behavioural advice

Thanks so much for your replies. These do sum up the situation very well.

On balance I suspect we probably ought not to adopt another - she's so loving and doting now, I wouldn't want to see that jeopardised.

I just need to *not* look at cat adoption sites any more :)

Adopting a second cat - behavioural advice

We have a 12 year old female adopted cat who has been living with us for 3 years. When we adopted her she had not lived with other cats before. We had a male who has sadly now passed on. He was very friendly, and tolerant, and had lived with other cats before. Despite him doing nothing to make her f...
