fingers crossed

Well it will soon be the christmas/new year period again and I am keeping fingers toes and everything else crossed that this year I don't end up with a poorly cat at the vets again. 2 years ago it was my baby Milo who sadly only got to see 1 day of 2016 then last year the hoodlum Bilbo with his bloc...

Crying cat

The last couple of days there has been a cat somewhere nearby crying continually, at first I thought it was hurt and have been out in the dak with a torch and in the day in the pouring rain looking for it to check it was ok and was getting quite worried Anyway I have finally realised it's not a sick...

Re: Tongue flicking

That's exactly what it's like lapping the air ! He has some very odd habits like eating his urinary dry food as if it's the best thing in the world as long as he is fed by hand but put it in a bowl and you would think I was trying to poison him ! I guess this is just another's one of his little &quo...

Tongue flicking

Bilbo has developed a very strange habit the last few days, when he comes for fusses he flicks his tongue in and out, I can only describe it as like a snake ! He is purring at the same time and eating normally (for him!) so I'm not unduly concerned and he does only do it when he first comes up for a...

Re: New user - Cat with squamous cell carcinoma

I'm so sorry to read this. I have been following Lola's amazing journey and one thing that is crystal clear that you loved her with all your heart and have walked a long hard Path with her, and you did do it with her and at the end of the day that's all we can do. I remember reading a piece just ove...

Re: 18 year old cat suddenly lethargic and off food :(

Glad he has perked up hopefully he was just having an off day. I know you shouldn't really project human values and behaviours on our cats but just like humans have days when they just want to stay in bed all day I think our cats do as well - well mine does !!

Re: Stress head !!

Well it's clear who is in charge in our house :D
He has decided now that he will only eat his wet food if I give it to him upstairs !!! What with wanting his "dining room" upstairs and only eating his dry food if fed by hand I think he is writing a definition of picky eater !!

Re: Acute renal failure any survival chance?

My Bilbo had acute kidney problems at the beginning of the year in his case it was a blocked bladder that was the root cause and I don't think his levels were as high but he was on a drip for 3 days and didn't urinate for 24 hours after his bladder was unblocked despite being flushed through with fl...

Re: Stress head !!

Back from the vets he hasn't lost any more weight and doesn't have to go back until his next health check is due :D she did say to continue with the zylkene and to persevere with changing over his food. Hopefully once he is less stressed that will be a bit easier but for now normal service ( or very...

Re: which cat food???

My lot get a wide range, from supermarket brands to some of the posher brands (much of it donated to the rescue I foster for so I don't get a choice, though staples tend to be Butchers and Felix AGAIL), and all are older so a couple get prescription diets, but for all I do try to feed a wide range ...

Over the last few months I have come to the conclusion that the best food is whatever food the little blighters will eat !!! Re: Stress head !!

Hi Didi, poor wee Bilbo, don't blame him getting upset at heavy rain and gales, I'm the same and I should know better! Forgive me for saying this but I think your insistence on getting him to eat the food he hates will probably be stressing him out even more. I have had that experience with Cody,( ...

Re: Stress head !!

Zylkene is next on my list, I have ordered a few online to see if they have any effect. The vet nurse did say that the main ingredient in both that and the calmex is the same but she had used the calmex with her cat so had seen it work. I think it is the smell and taste he doesn't like - smells to m...

Stress head !!

Right 18 months ago when he was just 3 Bilbo had his first bout of cystitis vet decided it was stress related and so the feliway came into the house. At the beginning of this year he ended being admitted with a blocked bladder again vet thinks largely stress related but he did have crystals in his u...

Re: Xanax ... anyone given this to their cat?

Bilbo took it for a week, half a tablet twice a day to start off then down to half a tablet once a day and I have to say it's effect was instant and really good even taking him to the vet for a check up he remained calm and the vet said he was like a different cat. I may be totally wrong but I think...

Re: Xanax ... anyone given this to their cat?

I was given it for Bilbo to try and reduce his stress the initial dose was 1 tablet but he was like a Friday night happy drunk after that, he "loved" everyone couldn't walk in a straight line and had a severe case of the munchies - ate everything in sight before falling fast asleep. We wen...

Re: How do you keep them still for treatment?

My old cat used to get dreadful dermatitis which he would scratch until it bled and I would have to "wash" his face, the only way I could do it was very gradually with a treat as a reward took a few days before he would let me do it for longer than a few seconds but got there's in the end ...

Re: Cat stopped eating

As laudable as your long term aims are the important thing for your cat is to get her eating by giving her whatever she will eat. Recently we have had to change Bilbo's diet for health reasons and after an intiial reluctance he started eating it only to stop a few days later, at that point I decided...

So how does your cat show you love

Just wondering as Bilbo has this habit when he is being brushed of purring and "chewing" on my arm ! It's not really chewing in so much as no teeth are involved he just sort of opens and closes his mouth on me. It's a habit he has always had but just lately seems to be doing it more often ...

Re: My 3yr old Balinese girl died unexpectedly

I am so sorry about your little girl it must be heartbreaking and not knowing "why" can't be helping. I'm sure your flowers didn't have anything to do with it. It seems strange that she appeared to recover then went downhill could it be her kidneys had been affected ? I don't know if cysti...
