Re: 20 year old cat diagnosed with cancer of liver

Thank you Mollycat for your kind reply, yes quality of life is so important. Yes I feel the same way about aggressive treatment, he will not be having surgery and we will only consider steroids if the vet is sure they won't interact negatively with all his other medications and won't cause any ill e...

Re: 20 year old cat diagnosed with cancer of liver

Hello AndyMac, Thank you for your kind reply, so sorry to hear about your cat Jet. Yes I am hoping I will know when the time is right too. The vet is considering steroids but wants to do some research as he is already on medication for epilepsy and hyptheryroid and now pain killers. He is going in n...

Re: My 20-year-old cat was fine but now suddenly ill and not eating :(

Thank you Mollycat, he is in at the vets now for a scan and maybe a biopsy, feel awful leaving him there but know it is best so we can find out what it is. Depending on what they find maybe I will start a new thread and see if anyone else has experience with it. x

Re: My 20-year-old cat was fine but now suddenly ill and not eating :(

Thank you Mollycat, thank you so much for the recommendations, I will look into the Nutraflora and Pro-Kolin, sorry to hear about your cats renal failure :( So just returned from vets and she could feel a golf ball sized tumour under his ribs :( wasn't expecting that! He had also lost quite a lot of...

Re: My 20-year-old cat was fine but now suddenly ill and not eating :(

Thank you Mollycat for your helpful and kind reply. Yes hoping it is just a stomach upset, that is a good idea about the probiotics too I will look into that. Yes that is my concern too that it is something more serious :( his last check up was a few months ago and they were broadly happy with every...

My 20-year-old cat was fine but now suddenly ill and not eating :(

Hello, Our gorgeous 20 year old boy was doing so well up until a few days ago :( He has hypothyroidism (managed for 2 years on methimazole ear gel, last blood test showed thyroid function as normal) and has epilepsy (managed for 1 year on phenobarbital, roughly 1 seizure every couple of months) phen...

Re: Vaccinating old (18 yrs) indoor cat?

Hello Kay; thank you that is good to hear! And yes that is a good point that the best catteries will insist upon them as conditions of stay :) I just get so anxious about everything as he is older now and probably feel a bit guilty for leaving him to go on holiday! My partner thinks I have seperatio...

Vaccinating old (18 yrs) indoor cat?

Hello everyone, I was wondering if I could seek some opinions from some fellow cat owners. My cat William is 18 years old and now living as an indoor cat. We inherited him from my in-laws and aside from a couple of visits to vets for fighting related incidents (!) He's never been otherwise. He had a...

Re: 18 year old cat suddenly lethargic and off food :(

Thank all for your well wishes, his gums etc seem pink as normal. Today he has woken up his usual self, alert, fussing for food, eating, drinking, meowing etc... fingers crossed it was just an off day yesterday :) although still very strange! Will see what the vet says as he is due a check up anyway...

Re: 18 year old cat suddenly lethargic and off food :(

Thank you all for your well wishes :) he has just eaten some more tuna and is now moving around a bit more, much more alert and meowing more too, seems more his normal self, but I think getting a quick check up and bloods is a good plan.
And yes I agree best to panic than miss something for sure! X

Re: 18 year old cat suddenly lethargic and off food :(

Hello all, Thank you so much for your replies :) luckily I was able to leave work early so have been home keeping an eye on him, managed to persuade him to eat a half a Felix satchet and a bit of tuna! And he is going to the loo in his litter tray no problem and able to walk around. Still very sleep...

Re: Moving two old cats to a new home / transitioning to indoors only

Thank you for your replies elastu and sunnyme_123! It is so reassuring to hear of your experiences with indoor cats and mature cats- makes me feel better knowing that other people have had good experiences. Our two are definitely the same in that they only ever choose to go outside to sit in the sun...

Re: Moving two older cats to a new home

Thank you for your reply Lilith! :) It is reassuring to know that your older cats were able to cope well with a move. Out of our two the 16 year old is so laid back I think he would be fine and it is probably only the 12 year old that would struggle at first. It is nice to know also that your cats c...

Re: Moving two old cats to a new home / transitioning to indoors only

Thank you for your reply! :) It is reassuring to know that your cats were able to cope with the change! I agree with you they definitely seem to prefer the indoors life at the moment, even in the summer they don't venture further then the garden! As and when the time comes to move and if the do come...
