Re: My suffering

Although awfully only you can make this decision, I just wanted to say that I really feel for you. Just over two weeks ago I had to say goodbye to my wonderful Gatsby at the vets. Part of me is still torturing myself that I could have tried more. The other part thinks we spent our last afternoon tog...

Re: Cat cremation

So sorry to hear about your losses. I lost my little Gatsby two weeks ago. He is at the bottom of my garden so I do have a place I can go but what I wanted to say was it doesn't make it any easier. There are places all over the house that are his. Could you make your own memorial, maybe with a photo...

Re: When is the right time?

What a lovely thing to do. I am sure Amy will be out and exploring soon. It is so hard, isn't it. I went to visit the two cats yesterday and they are beautiful but I have just cried every since. I don't know. They are not in rescue and there may be others interested in taking them. Is Amy the same c...

Re: When is the right time?

Thank you all for taking the time to reply. I am going to see the two black cats in the next few days. The owner has said I can visit as much as I want. I do realise that I can't instantaneously build the history I had with Gatsby and that cats won't neccesarily decide to 'introduce themselves' spon...

When is the right time?

So, it's only been a week since I lost my lovely black Gatsby and yesterday I felt able to put a tribute to him on fb. To cut a long story short, I've now been contacted by someone I only know through our mutual love of old cars. He is seeking to re home his 8 and 6 year old black cats through no fa...

Re: One week after I lost the greatest of Gatsby's

Thank you so much for your kind words, Hannah. It is good to be able to talk to people who know how I feel. I am so tired now as I didn't really sleep again last night but I will write more later. I finally managed to post soemthing about Gatsby on fb last night. This morning I had a message from so...

One week after I lost the greatest of Gatsby's

it is now exactly one week since I lost my wonderful Gatsby. This week I have felt such guilt and so many what ifs. More tests. Could I have saved him? I didn't find Gatsby, he found me. A little unwanted stray who turned up in 2011 and wouldn't go away. We went through so much together. He was ill....

Re: Grieving once more

So sorry to hear your news, Hannah. I know there is nothing I can really say but I am in a similar position and I have found talking to people on here helps a little. Like you, I feel I am falling apart and though I have wonderful friends, I think many of them are now feeling I should 'move on'. (It...

Re: Feline Leukimia diagnosis - what is best now?

I have just come home to a very empty house and wanted you all to know how much your replies meant to me. I have been up all night thinking about what ifs..and whether I should have asked for more tests. Thank you all so much. There will be another little cat in my life one day. I never chose Gatsby...

Re: Feline Leukimia diagnosis - what is best now?

I decided to let Gatsby go peacefully in my arms at the vet tonight. Cancer of the kidneys seemed likely and his anaemia was much worse. I will never know whether I did the right thing but he has been through so much in his little life....thank you for caring. I will never forget the little street c...

Re: Feline Leukimia diagnosis - what is best now?

I tried to tell myself that Gatsby perked up a bit this morning as he ate a little chicken and drank some water but really he is still very weak. I have come home from work to sit with him. The vet also says he has enlarged kidneys and possibly a tumour there. I will let you know what happens tonigh...

Re: Feline Leukimia diagnosis - what is best now?

Thank you so much for your reply, Sarah. Gatsby was better at lunchtime and I spoke to two vets - the one who is treating him and a specialist. I booked him in for another blood test. His anaemia is very bad. I wanted to see if it had improved. Unfortunately, he has taken a turn for the worst tonigh...

Re: Feline Leukimia diagnosis - what is best now?

He is nearly five. I was so upset on Friday that I will need to speak to the vets again on Monday when I can take it all in. Thank you so much for taking the trouble to reply.

Re: Feline Leukimia diagnosis - what is best now?

It was an inhouse test but they have sent blood samples away. He has all they symptoms according to what I've read so far. Tired, loss of appetite, weight loss. The vet said he is very anaemic. Very sudden. He seemed fine last Sunday. He is eating now (roast chicken) and trying to get out through th...

Feline Leukimia diagnosis - what is best now?

unfortunately, Gatsby was diagnosed on Friday. Originally the vets were going to send him to a 24hr Animal Hospital for the weekend but they said he would be better at home with me as the condition is incurable. They did hydrate him and give him antibiotics. He is now with me..lethargic but he is st...
