Re: Unexplained weight loss

Hi Crewella, Just wanted to let you know I had some good news from the vet. Holly's blood test results didn't suggest a lymphoma but more likely a gut malabsorption issue due to generalised inflammation. She's going to have some weekly vit b12 injections in combination with venison based food to try...

Re: Unexplained weight loss

Hi crewella, just wanted to thank you for all you helpful advice and update. I had a really good consultation with the referral vet last week. He was a great vet and very experienced in internal medicine. He picked up an indicator on Holly's previous blood test. Initially he's just recommended furth...

Re: Unexplained weight loss

Thanks crewella, we are assuming she is around 13 but we aren't 100% sure! she doesn't give the impression of being ancient. Poor kitty originally belonged to an old person who went into care, the family cleared the property out and took her to the vets to be put to sleep as they didn't want her, ev...

Re: Unexplained weight loss

Thanks alanc, wasn't sure whether to give kitten food a go or not. Cat food doesn't have as obvious calorie content information as human food! Holly has no loss of appetite if anything her appetite has gone up. I might give it a try in the short term as don't think it can hurt whilst I'm waiting for...

Unexplained weight loss

Looking for any advice regarding unexplained weight loss. Holly is an approx 13yr old rescue black british shorthair female I've had for 4 1/2 yrs. She was 4.5kg when re homed but seemed to have food allergies so early on vet advised low allergy food which she enjoyed and seemed happy with (wet and ...

Re: Has anyone had a cat that's had a stroke?

Really pleased Paddington is improving, I know what you mean about the journey to the vets, it was a 20min trip for me and I was convinced he would pass away before I even got there. My and my vet agreed that as long as the steroids worked and he improved within 24 to 48 hrs and the episodes didn't ...

Re: Has anyone had a cat that's had a stroke?

Glad you found the info helpful. I found the first episode horrifying and really upsetting but seeing how quickly Alfie bounced back I was amazed. He was a bit wobbly and quieter for a few days and mostly stayed in and slept. The vet checked him a week later to make sure he was recovering well. The ...

Re: Has anyone had a cat that's had a stroke?

Hi there, I have experience of this with my previous rescue boy Alfie which might be helpful. He had what I thought was a stroke and I had a panicked visit to the out of hours vet. He was diagnosed with a stroke or brain bleed. He had a sort of black out, came round very wobbly and distressed with v...
