Re: Recurring Cystitis

Interestingly the vet tonight said Gabapentin wasn't a steroid, but the one a couple of weeks ago said she was going to give her a steroid as she couldn't have the Metacam. In the if it works i'm happy with that, and the vet tonight did say that the bladder felt relaxed which she seemed to think was...

Re: Recurring Cystitis

Might as well just update this, Tiggy has been back to the vets and had another antibiotic shot to see if that will clear things up fully. If not the vet was talking about ultrasound scans to see if there is a growth in her bladder and other tests. We really aren't sure what we will do if it does co...

Re: Recurring Cystitis

I've got some Cystophan capsules on order from Amazon that should be arriving tomorrow, the vet did suggest trying something like Cystease, but when I looked they were on quite a long delivery time, then as she seemed so much better it went out of my mind. I guess ordering them today is a way of try...

Re: Cat wanting to but unable to eat

My own cat has had most of his teeth resorb, about 18 months ago we noticed he had lost a canine and went in to have the root removed. That was when the vet phoned to say all his incisors and premolars had already been resorbed and his molars were so far gone he needed them out. At 5 years old he wa...

Recurring Cystitis

it seems my Tiggy may not be doing quite as well as I'd hoped a couple of weeks ago, and my mind is starting to turn to what the out come may have to be. i guess I'm coming here in hope that someone might be either able to confirm my worst fears, or to tell me that their cat went through something s...

Don't worry about the negative post, in a way it isn't negative, you love Milla and all the regulars here now how distressing it is when they aren't well (My own golden oldie Tiggy had to go to the vets a couple of weeks ago as she wasn't well, I really wasn't sure she would be coming home, but an a...

Re: Just when everything seems fine something terrible happens :( Mila might die

If she is drinking water then that is a good sign, she needs the fluids to cope with the heat. As mentioned, ice pack under a towel, even a damp towel put in the freezer and then wrapped in a dry towel for her to lie on. If there is a cooler room where you can put her with a fan on that might help h...

Re: Just when everything seems fine something terrible happens :( Mila might die

Oh no, I really hope she will get better and if it is a reaction to the heat (I don't cope well with heat myself, so I can sympathise) hopefully the vet can give you some tips to help keep her safe and well until the temperature drops off, or you can get your AC fixed. Heat stroke is serious but she...

Re: Found a month old stray kitten and brought it home, now what?

He/She looks like they are doing really well, it is always amazing how resistant a cat can be, and what a little TLC and proper food can achieve. Now you just need to find out whether it is a he or a she and give them a name.

Re: Cat carrier recommendations

I'll second the wire, crate style carriers, my family has always used them, and after a short interlude when I used plastic front opening ones I got with a pair of cats I adopted, I soon returned to the wire, crate style ones. they are far more practicality over style or fashion, but i would opt for...

Re: Found a month old stray kitten and brought it home, now what?

I don't know about anyone else, but I'm loving reading these updates and really routing for this little kitten to make it. Its purely instinct not experience, but I feel the pooping problem will sort out with proper food and regular meals, it must take a while to transition from milk to solids and i...

Re: Found a month old stray kitten and brought it home, now what?

I'm certainly no expert, but my thought is that a kitten with diarrhea unable to clean itself, and no Mum cat to do it for it, would naturally end up with a chapped and sore back end. Now even if it is still suffering from diarrhea it is being cleaned and dried afterwards which will give the skin a ...

Re: Found a month old stray kitten and brought it home, now what?

Really glad to hear the kitten is doing well. I can't give any advice it is years since i had anything to do with kittens, i was in my teens and a cat adopted my family then a month later brought us her 4 kittens, but really my Mum and the cat Mum looked after them. I'm sure the diarrhea probably ha...

Like the others have said he is a baby that has suddenly been taken from his mother and siblings and put in a strange, cold place (it may not actually be cold, but after spending all his time cuddled up with his family it will feel cold in a different way) he desperately wants company. I agree with ...

Re: indoor cat outdoor

The only way to let them out and not have them explore is to pet proof your garden or to build a catio so they have an area outside that is contained. Pet proofing can be done by yourself or you can pay a professional to do it for you, depending on how good your DIY skills are. About the only other ...

Its now made the BBC site. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-57486596 While it may be hard on the retailer and manufacturers having to do a recall without full evidence, it is probably better than carrying on selling it and then finding they were aware of the possible link later. Impressive, and I'm so glad she is doing well, may be not so glad she hasn't learnt her lesson and decided to stay inside, but cats will be cats.

Pass on my best wishes to her owner and a quick fuss to the kitty, assuming she will enjoy it, if not then fair enough i wouldn't want to force it on her.

Re: Check your cat food, switch for safety x

The RVC seem to think it is linked to a toxin, so the question they have to ask is what do all the cats who exhibit symptoms come into contact with, they are not going to give any answers until they have the data in. Unfortunately that leave people to speculate and try and spot links themselves, wit...

When I saw it on Facebook, even though it was shared by a rescue I follow a lot, it took it with my normal large pinch of salt that I apply to anything I see on Facebook, when i then saw the thread on here about the same thing and from (allegedly) the RVC I did start to wonder if there was anything ...

Re: Maybe my cat doesn't have to be put down?

What is wrong with your cat I really can't say, and it is quite possible the vet can't either without a load of blood tests and scans, all they can do is look at the symptoms they can see and that you tell them about and make a best guess. In my mind there are 6 things a cat needs to be able to do b...

Re: Check your cat food, switch for safety x

Apparently vets are starting to see more cases of Pancytopenia, a blood disorder, in cats. They aren't sure if it is caused by a virus or by a toxin, but the way it is spreading among cats seem to indicate it is more likely to be a toxin. Symptoms seem to be bleeding from the nose and mouth, with te...

I find mine can be quite fond of the Thrive Complete, they used to love all flavours, but really have settled on the fish ones, both the Tuna with Shrimp and Squid and the Sardine and Mackrel seem to have a lot of liquid in them and are easy to eat, the only problem i have is that I have to buy them...

When my Mother went into a nursing home, I took in her 17 year old cat, it wasn't until I got her in my home that I realised she was almost blind I had been looking after her in my Mothers home while my Mum was in hospital, but she had learnt her way around that house so well I never even noticed it...

I have to agree with Booktigger, I don't believe there are shorthaired Ragdolls (yet). It could be that a Ragdoll queen escaped and met an unneutered male moggy and she is a Ragdoll cross. While no expert I'm sure i've seen reference to Ragdolls with Lynx markings which are tabby mask, ears paws and...

Personally I don't agree that the dog needs pts, (I'll keep my opinions about the owner to myself), it sounds like it needs some decent training and being taken out on a lead until it leans to to what it is told. I know this may be a bit two faced as I would never expect a cat to do what it is told ...

I do wonder about some pet owners, and it does seem to be dog owners in particular, that want the dog as a status symbol rather than as a beloved pet. If they have that attitude to a family's pet cat, I really can't believe they love their own pet that much or they would understand the hurt caused, ...
