Re: 9 month old cat keeps attacking me! Please help!

I am no expert but it does sound like controlling behaviour, she is trying to make you let her do what she wants. She does something she knows she shouldn't and gets told off, she attacks you in hope that you won't tell her off next time, you pay attention to something else, a telephone or cooking, ...

Re: Cats spraying in the house and basement!

Like the others, it does sound territorial to me and the best way to deal with it would be to get to the bottom of the issue rather than treating the symptoms. You mentioned a stray male coming around, can he actually gain access to your house via a cat flap. If he can then stopping him coming in wo...

Sometimes things work out for the best, but in ways we didn't quite expect, whether you decided to keep her or not, she may have help heal you so in time you can decide whether to take in another cat or not with out the grief of the loss rearing it's head, just happy memories. One thing I did want t...

Re: Indoor/Outdoor Kitty and Day Lily Plants/Toxic Plants

I just want to say Thank you for removing them, you are making your garden so much safer for cats. While I know everyone on this forum is primarily concerned about cats, i also know how much some people's garden can means to them, tell them that they need to uproot a number of plants and they would ...

Re: Thankyou to everyone for advice

I would also advise getting the vaccinations done as quickly as possible, if she is back to her normal self there is no need to wait for the fur to grow back. I don't want to scare you but several years ago the cleaner in the offices I worked in fostered cats for a charity, she had 5 cats of her own...

Re: 1 year old cat mystery ailment

Welcome to the forum and i'm sorry it is due to such a situation. I can't really offer any advice other than to ask, are they certain the polyp was the cause of the head tilt, from what you have said I am assuming it was an ear polyp. Is there any chance that there was something else going on from t...

Great to hear she is doing well and things are back to normal. We are all more than happy to offer advice where we can, and more than happy to talk about our own cats, sometimes it can be hard to get us to stop. Please don't disappear off now she is better, we will all be happy to hear any updates o...

Re: Lump after vaccination

A vet once told my parents that the normal annual boosters were good for at least 18 months when they were concerned their cats were over due but things were happening at the time that meant they couldn't get in easily to get them done (in an emergency a neighbour would have taken them, but they did...

Re: Lump after vaccination

Some cats do react to the vaccinations, several of mine have always been under the weather for a day or so afterwards, but I've never seen any lumps from it. My advice would be either to ring the vet, or better yet make an appointment to get it checked out, he could have had a reaction to the vaccin...

Re: Should I adopt a cat?

I have to agree with the rest, the only way it would be close to being fair on the cat is if you could get a reliable cat sitter to come in several times a day. I would also suggest that you would be better with two cats not one so they would be company for each other when no one else was around.

Re: Kitty doing well

I recently read that unmarried, childless females are the happiest demographic in current society, the general opinion seemed to be to blame it on the cats. I went off to Polytechnic in '89 and I still remember all the cold evenings stood in a queue for the nearby pay phone so I could phone my paren...

Re: Next Door's Cat Eating Our Cats' Food

I agree with what the others have said about chipping your own cats just for you own benefit if they go missing. As for the current problem, try not to leave any food down, feed yours and then take it up again, you might end up giving them lots of meals during the day, but at least if the neighbours...

Re: Ragdoll defecating on sofa/bed

It definitely sounds like something has upset them to start this off. Was anything introduced into the spare room that might have started this off, something that smelled different, or could they have seen another cat through the window and decided they needed to mark that room as theirs, not realis...

Re: Kitty doing well

I think we have all been there. The girls rarely miss a meal time and come when called, Saturn on the other hand I have learnt will regularly go off for 12 to 18 hours leaving me to worry and wander the streets wondering where he is. I have to an extent accepted it from him, but that doesn't stop me...

I am so sorry it was bad news.

Like you say only you can decide whether you bring him home or not. I don't know how old your children are, but it might be worth asking them if they would rather he came home so they could say good bye properly.

Re: FIP .... is there any hope ?!

I'm so sorry you and Geoff are going through this. I can't give you any help with symptoms, but the one thing i do know is that FIP is most common in kittens up to a year old, so Geoffs age is in his favour, but that doesn't mean he is in the clear, only tests will tell. I really hope it is somethin...

Re: Problems introducing kitten to older cat

Welcome to the forum, and please don't blame yourselves, we all make mistakes and it isn't the end of the world, the main thing is to learn from them. As others have said the main thing is time and lots of fuss to your resident Raggie. If you can separate them a bit it might help, I know you mention...

Re: Kitty doing well

When i get a new cat I always start saying its name at meal times, calling as I would normally but quieter. Then when they start to go out I let them out just before meal times and call them in, They soon learn to associate being called in with getting fed and most of the time they do respond. Somet...

Re: Tooth Reabsorption, Potential Oral Cancer - Thoughts?

Poor girl, it sounds like things are easy for her or for you. I can't really give any advice I don't have any experience of reabsortion or stomatitis, however my one thought is have any investigations gone beyond the mouth area. Could the problem be further back in the jaw joint or even up towards t...

Re: Kitten help

Congratulations on the two new additions, and I can't really add to what has already been said, patience is the key and letting them come to you. Sit with them, play with them, watch tv or read a book, be with them but don't be intrusive. They will soon realise that you have a warm comfy knee to sit...

I have to admit I was checking in regularly hoping for an update and fearing the worst when there wasn't one, I'm a natural worrier. I'm glad it was just a missing phone. I have a black box about 12" cubed sat on a desk next to a 24" monitor, it makes it very hard to mislay them. I have a mobile pho...

Re: Kitty back to vets

A good vet understands that you know your cat and know when something is wrong even if you don't know quite what. It's going back a few years but our Ragdoll was off colour and wasn't eating properly. We took him to the vets and the only thing I could say was he didn't seem to be eating as much as n...

Re: Kitty back to vets

Poor girl I hope it is something simple to deal with. You have done all the right things and getting her spayed was the best thing you could do for her, but like any operation things can go wrong so best to find out as soon as you can. Like Lilith says it could be that the onesie is preventing her f...

Re: Play biting (6 week old kittens)

I agree with FJM that, while at one time 6 weeks was the normal age to home kitten, it is now thought that they are better left with their Mum and siblings till about 12 weeks as they learn how to play nice from each other as well as other general good manners. You now have the task of teaching them...

Re: Best flea treatment??

One trick i have heard of, if you have a vacuum cleaner you don't need to empty every time it's used, is to get a flea collar and cut it in half and put half in the cylinder or bag (save the other half to use after it has been emptied). That way should there be any flea eggs in the carpet if they do...

Re: Kitty sudden change of behaviour

There could be a variety of reasons, it could be that some long lasting medication has just warn off and she is suddenly feeling the operation, or you mentioned that the wound appeared to be a bit swollen even though it appeared to be healing well, it could be that there is something going on there....
