Re: Small Kidneys

Hopefully she won't need to go for another 12 months and I can keep working on handling her, but I may be in contact next August to ask for the lady's details. I am more than happy to accept that there is something in the alternative treatments, but I also know how easy it could be to fake it, I wou...

Re: Small Kidneys

I'll certainly be asking the vets next time I'm in, it just came as a surprise and at the time I was just more concerned with getting her boosters and flea treatment done, so didn't think to ask. Any other cat would be easy, Freyja, just getting her to the vets for her boosters in an accomplishment,...

Small Kidneys

Once more I have been successful in getting Freyja to the vets for her boosters, it is always a challenge as she is very difficult to handle and getting her in a carrier is a matter of catching her unawares by the scruff. Normally she gets a very brief check over and her jabs, sometimes without even...

Re: Do cats get bored of certain foods?

I believe the current thinking is that a cat's constant desire for variety comes from when they relied on hunting for food and helped it accept eating different foods depending on what it caught. I dare not leave any meat, raw or cooked, on the side for 10 seconds unless Saturn is in my line of sigh...

Re: Clumping Or Non-clumping Litter?

The Siria, while it may be made from corn husk is actually quite fine grained, not much bigger than the Catsan clumping litter I used to use and nothing like the wood pellet type.

Re: Clumping Or Non-clumping Litter?

I used to use Catsan Clumping litter and still think it is the best I have come across for odour control. However for various reasons including price, I started to look for an alternative last year, I came across Siria on Amazon, it is made from granulated corn cob so more environmentally friendly t...

Re: mite infestation

I'm a bit surprised your vet isn't more concerned about an unidentified species of mite that is proving resistant to the normal mite treatments. I would have hoped they would be eager to get them identified at least. I'm afraid i can't suggest any treatment except the old physical one, a flea comb a...

Except in other animals (I know in horses for certain) the joint in the middle of the front leg that looks like a knee is referred to as a knee even though it is a different joint to our knees.

Re: Oh help, what do I do !!!

Glad to hear you did find the owner, heartbreaking as it might be to know one was in an RTA at least she knows he was taken to a vet where he received what treatment they could give, even if it was only to help him pass on painlessly. Far better than never knowing what happened.

Re: Wet Food Cemented on Kittens Face, HELP!

If possible get it wet. not just spot wiping but gentle soaking, use some small pieces of cotton wool well soaked and hold them against the dried on cat food, make sure you don't block the nose and mouth, but a little water running into her mouth won't hurt her. Once soaked it will start to soften a...

Re: Eating Mice

Saturn brings us mice and the occasional bird, he has also managed a couple of rats in his time, but he is now 4 and does seem to be slowing down a bit this year. Fortunately they were normally dead, sometimes in the night we would hear him playing with one on the landing (the bedroom door is kept s...

Re: Eating Mice

I have to agree with the others, he is just being a cat, some eat what they catch, some don't. However, there is a chance that for some reason his normal food isn't providing everything he needs, normally this occurs when a cat is fed a special diet, or cat foods that aren't 'complete' in which case...

Don't blame yourself, accidents happen, you did the best you could getting it to a vets straight away. If you are in the UK contact Cats Protection, my local one puts up notices of found cats and RTAs on Facebook and from their they spread around the local cat owners community, hopefully yours will ...

Re: Kitten sneezing/snotty/

The vet did suggest another month long course of antibiotics might work, however after the amount of antibiotics she has already had and the fact that each time they seemed to last for a sho...

Re: Kitten sneezing/snotty/

If he is loving and active I don't think you need worry too much about him suffering. My cat is at the other end of the age spectrum and is in her late teens, a year ago we noticed she was very snuffly and seemed to be labouring to breath. After several trips to the vets, nasal swabs to identify the...

Re: Kitten Severed Foot

I've know of a few cats with three legs and they all managed to get around fine, I can see no reason why your kitten shouldn't thrive with only three legs. Talk to your vet as soon as possible to discuss the situation and arrange to have him checked over (you might have to take the whole family in t...

One of mine does occasionally make an odd crunching sound when eating dried food, but he also tends to pull odd faces at the same time, i have come to the conclusion that he occasionally get a piece of the dried food caught somewhere in his mouth and it takes a moment to free it. He does have proble...

Horse breeds fortunately tend to have resulted either...

I've not come across Gain before, but having a quick look online is should be fine for them, I assume they have easy access to water and drink plenty. It is possibly they just have naturally pale gums but if in doubt ask for a blood test to be done so that you have the actual cell counts for them th...

Re: I need advice on something

I have to agree with fjm, it really should be investigated further, improving their diet might help with the anaemia, but it won't solve the cause of the problem (unless of course their diet is the problem). As has been said liver is a really good source of iron, but is best fed raw which can lead t...

I think that must be something on the Ragdoll genes that isn't normally mentioned, Blue, my old Ragdoll was the one cat I had to admit failure with when it came to giving tablets and ask for injections when he needed something. If she is just 8 weeks old (or even younger) it could be that there was some forced weaning involved and she is having problems adjusting to a kitten food diet as opposed to one supplemented by her mother's milk. I have to agree on getting her to a vets sooner rather than later for a general check u...

It sounds promising, at least you know that if something happens and they do end up both out of their rooms at the same time, it is unlikely to end with blood and fur everywhere. In the end you know your house and your cats best and have the best understanding of what is and isn't possible, and what...

It sounds like a case of redirected aggression, something happened and without anything else to blame and turn on, she has decided to blame her sister for it. They may never get back to how they were, at three years old they are really just becoming fully mature and they may have started to grow out...

Hindsight might be wonderful but its only use it to help us work out what to do in the future not to berate us for what was done in the past.
